I did my injection but my sharps box was downstairs, I got a call to collect my son from school early so left for an hour

On returning home I went to put the mounjaro needle in the sharps bin. I had screwed the lid back on the used needle but as I tried to push it into the hole, lid first, I didn't realise that the needle was exposed on the back of the needle cap too and pricked my finger.

I kep thinking about that Dr who used a needle twice on a lady who became paralysed.

But thw underside needle won't have been in my skin would it?
It would be the capped off bit that broke the skin barrier?

I cleaned it with a alcohol swab.

You’ll be fine 💐

Aliceisagooddog · 17/10/2024 15:52

Lol, I did exactly the same thing the other day!! It's still probably a sterile needle, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thankyou, I don't know why I didn't realise it extended out the back too!

I did exactly the same thing, a few weeks ago! I’m still here 😀

MissSmith80 · 17/10/2024 16:16

Yep, I did this too as I tried to put it into the sharp bin. Apart from, 'bloody hell, what a plonker', I haven't given it any more thought. You'll be fine x

I'm a vet and accidentally stab my self numerous times with animal contaminated products. I'm still alive and kicking 😂

I think probably about 50 percent of people do that the first time, I certainly did because I also hadn't worked out that the needle was exposed at the back.

The story you're referring to is incredibly rare, so unusual as to be a one off. She also wasn't paralysed, she developed something called complex regional pain syndrome. And had other pre existing health issues, and is now experiencing less pain and is a content creator with a large following on social media.

allhailtheeyeballsinthesky · 17/10/2024 16:24

I've done it every week, for about 6 weeks, I'm just about stopping myself now, but it's touch and go

Thankyou so much for clarifying. I'm glad she is doing better.

I did this too with my first injection! No biggie. Sterile needle, only been in me on the other end. I think it's a very bad design.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 17/10/2024 16:37

I've stabbed myself loads of times with my dogs insulin needles. It will be fine.

MooDeng · 17/10/2024 20:32

Feel alot better! Thankyou.

If this was an issue, we wouldn’t be allowed to inject ourselves. I clearly have a better memory than some people replying as I only do this every other month :)

TurtleNest · 18/10/2024 08:26

I did this one time, and now I have one very skinny finger while the rest are normal. 😭

(This is a joke, my fingers and I all survived without issue. 😉)
