Would you delay starting until after a special occasion?

I’m desperate to start and was planning to order my first dose this week but on 19th October I’ve got a special occasion that will involve lots of eating, drinking and dancing. It would be noted if I couldn’t eat/ drink and also I’ve been really looking forward to so wouldn’t want to feel ropey.

Would you delay starting and treat the occasion as a final blowout or get started ASAP?

(I’ve got at least 6 stone to lose).

It's a really individual decision but for me I got started straight away. Part of my thought process was that there's always a special event coming up and I've got to learn to navigate them whilst losing weight as I'll be losing weight for the best part of a year. I don't drink much anyway, so that's not a concern for me.

You will be able to eat, just likely not as much as before.

You might get side effects that put a dampener on your celebration, if you respond to the medication you might not be able to eat as much, alcohol has been known to make some people nauseous or sick.

So if you start now you will probably need to eat/drink moderately or you might feel unwell after.

Start later and you are delaying the start of your journey to good health, but only by 2 weeks.

As Silence says it is individual decision.

If you do have a final blowout leading to excesses of food and drink it might be worth (this is just my opinion, you could ask your provider) waiting 24-48hrs before injecting incase you are a super responder to the medication.

It can be unpredictable but all through my (14 week) journey even when side effects have been at their worse, I’ve always felt fine on day 5-7 after injecting. So I personally would start, but factor that into the day you choose.
i personally inject on a Tuesday evening and have always felt pretty normal saturday- Tuesday at least. I’d be able to eat and drink and dance at a party (and have done) albeit not over indulge like I normally would!

No, I wouldn't put it off because it 'would be noted' how much you have eaten. You don't need those types of comments. People should be pleased for you looking after yourself.

I'm dealing with MIL competitive underrating / expecting me to eat 'more' than her, mounjaro is helping me with the confidence to stand up to that. Sod others and what they think / note. You could still eat stuff and enjoy it anyway.

Problem is there is always something.. I would just start!

honestly its the best decision I've ever made, If anyone says anything you can either tell them to mind their own business (lol) or just tell them the truth, or say you are on a health kick..

19th? That's next week. I would just wait.

I’d just start. If people ask why you’re not drinking say you’re taking antibiotics.

We’re going to a rodizio and then to a whisky tasting 😂

It wouldn’t be noted in a negative way, it’s just because of the type of place we’re going it would be obvious. It’s only me and DH but I think if I was sat there not eating much he’d probably stop before he was ready to. Then I’ve got 5 whiskeys to drink after 😂.

Definitely individual decision. I waited to get Easter out of the way as frankly I was looking forward to the big roast with my family and I really enjoyed it. (But I had already ordered my first pen and it was in the fridge ready for me)

I don’t think you need to place too much significance on this decision, if you’re committed to starting then start when it’s right for you.

The fact is that if you're on it you probably won't want to each much, if anything, in the evening. I haven't had a drink in months as it never occurs to me. When I went out with friends (one of who was on it) we had starters instead of a main and that was enough. No dessert - just didn't fancy it.

Also if you're going to feel rough in the morning I've found it's when I've eaten too much (not even a normal portion) or had something too rich. So if you're taking it I wouldn't try to be like the others as you will really suffer that night and the next day. I'd just be open about it.

Having said that, if you really want to keep it quiet and think it would mean too much stress, then start it a couple of days after the event. You'll still have Christmas to deal with, though!
