What was your starting weight before Mounjaro?

Mine was 13 stone 6lb.

Day 2 of my first infection and I have quite a bad stomach. Really sore and don't want to eat because of that but no sickness etc so far

I feel like my stomach is 'full' and I have this weird, pressing feeling that this medication is actually going to slow my metabolism down and make me put on weight Sad Not seen any evidence to suggest this can happen though?

Last night I cried with stomach pains.

Are side effects worse the bigger you are?

15 stone 8lbs and I've had very few side effects, definitely no stomach pains.

Come join us on this thread, everyone seems to react differently, some people have strong side effects in week 1 then feel fine, other it lasts longer, others have none....

OP, the fact that you cried with stomach pains on the first night is very concerning. Not heard of this with anyone else.....a bit of stomach pain occasionally, but not crying with them on the first night.

What did you eat on day one? Most people who report stomach ache have eaten something oily or fatty eg fish and chips.

If it was all pretty clean food I would be concerned. What is your starting BMI? And are you on 2.5mg?

SilenceInside · 26/09/2024 20:42

No, side effects are not worse the bigger you are. You are 5st lighter than me now, and I was almost 22st when I started. So pretty massive. Only had one incidence of stomach upset side effects when I was on 5mg several weeks after starting. It was definitely related to what I ate.

If you're having stomach pains that are making you cry after day 1, you should contact your prescriber and ask for advice.

Ladymuck2022 · 26/09/2024 23:07

No sides effects. Started as nearly 20 stone on Saxenda which was a daily injection.

I lost nearly a stone in the first week in late 2022 on daily Saxenda. I haven’t achieved this with the latest injection brand and feel it is more a month to lose 9lb.

There wasn’t the evidence Saxenda at the time could mess with your cycles like the much newer weight loss injections so that is always a worry.

Snozzlemaid · 26/09/2024 23:51

I was 18 stone when I started and not had any side effects.
Stomach pain that bad does sound concerning. Might be worth getting checked by a doctor if it continues.

NewoIkkin · 27/09/2024 07:38

I was 16st 11lbs and have had very minimal side effects, nothing really worth mentioning.

TerfTalking · 27/09/2024 07:41

13 stone 3 in the middle of June, I’m now 10 stone 6. No pain as a side effect, I’ve had wind every morning and feel sick with fatigue if I up a dose but that’s it. Has been fairly smooth sailing.

Doggymummar · 27/09/2024 07:43

I was 18 stone, BMI 42 when I started, I started with Ozempic. My side effects were copious vomiting for weeks and weeks. My partner thought I was dying, he didn't know I was taking it.

After about three months it settled down, I've lost 52 lb so far, about halfway there.

Katkins17 · 27/09/2024 07:45

I started on 12th August at 16st 2lb.
Now at 14st 5lb and due my 3rd 5mg jab tomorrow.

Delighted with the loss.

Side effects are a complete loss of appetite, of when I do feel hungry, I don't actually fancy eating anything. I'm living on soup and salad!!

Constipation is a real thing.
Prunes when I can stomach them and when it's really bad, constipation tablets.

Tiredness is awful. Obviously because I'm not eating enough, but yesterday I had a real dip. I'm self employed so not being able to work has a knock on effect, but I had to just stop and rest... a cup of sweet tea and a digestive perked me up. I think I had a dip in blood sugar.

Hi OP, I was/am 14st when I started a week ago. Had really bad diarrhea the 2nd day and had stomach pain, but not that I cried all night. I'm due to inject again on Saturday morning and will see how it goes - fatty food and milk like lattes did seem to make me worse.

NewLifter · 27/09/2024 08:38

If you're having stomach pains that make you cry, you need to attend A&Even case you have an emergency condition. Don't assume it's down to the injection. MJ stomach pains so soon seems strange - mind are usually constipation or diarrhea related.

If you just have pain severe enough to make you cry but no other MJ type side effects - then go and get checked over!

NewLifter · 27/09/2024 08:39

What is your BMI? Where did you get your medication from?

LoquaciousPineapple · 27/09/2024 09:22

At 13stone 6, you're probably on the lighter compared to most Mounjaro patients when they start their journey. So no, I don't think the side effects you're talking about are because you're "bigger".

I was over 22 stone when I started and I had zero negative side effects. I only started getting any effects at all in the past couple of weeks when I'd already lost 40-50lbs so anecdotally it's been worse as I've got smaller. And even then it’s been some diarrhoea and burps never any pain at all.

Is your medication from a proper pharmacy? At your weight, I’d only just qualify BMI-wise for Mounjaro from a legit source so I’m curious to know your height/BMI?

eeeeeeeee · 27/09/2024 12:46

Have a chat with your pharmacy about this.

What exactly is the pain eg is it from the injection site, is it because you ate too much, is it because you’re hungry etc?

I started at 74kg and I haven’t had many side effects. I did have tummy pain if I ate too much, and I did have a bruise after I messed my injection up once. But generally it’s been a painless experience.

I'm with MedExpress. Loads of other people on here seem to use them with no problems.

Can't remember my BMI but it's in the obese range

It was in the centre, middle of my stomach

Completely gone now though

Not even got those awful sulphur burps Envy But I find whenever eat, in very small amounts and lean protein etc, it's painful. Definitely not over eating either as I have to remember to eat at the moment and it's a tiny portion

I was around bmi 30 and I get flu symptoms every time I inject. It’s awful but I have insulin resistance and this is the only thing that has helped me to lose weight so I put up with it.

baggagecabbage · 27/09/2024 15:06

18st 2lbs in July. I've lost 30lbs so far! You can't really tell though as I'm so large!

morbidcuriosity · 27/09/2024 15:33

18 stone 6.. I'm 1st week in on 5mg.. so far so good.. last Monday I was 16 stone 10.. so hoping to lose a few more pounds this week.

My first goal is 15 stone.. that would be amazing.. fingers crossed I get there..

That doesn’t sound right, you should be able to eat a decent portion of food.

I find medexpress to be fairly helpful and quick to respond when I contact them - definitely reach out. In the meantime maybe stick to a more liquid diet if you can (soup etc) - maybe your stomach is full from what you previously ate as Mounjaro can delay your digestion.

I find myself generally being able to eat around 50% of a full portion with the strongest appetite suppression, as an illustration. The medicine does restrict how much you eat, but it’s not normal for small amounts of food to be painful

Pashazade · 27/09/2024 16:57

OP consider carefully where the pain is. If you've got pain coming and going from the center and on the right hand side, it could be a grumbling appendix and terrible timing with starting the drug. Check the symptoms and see if any of them fit.
I had mild cramps on the second night but pretty sure that's because I ate too much at dinner. Otherwise I've been fine.
I suggest appendix as the pain of mine made me cry, but it can be that the pain isn't continual.

Thank you, I had mine out a few years ago so not that Grin But yes, I still remember that pain! Awful
