Thinking about starting Mounjaro but so many questions

Bunny2607 · 15/09/2024 20:00

Hi everyone!
i’ve been thinking today that i should try MJ after seeing some videos on tiktok of people having great results and reading some threads on here too. But i know very little about it. I’m ashamed to say i weigh just over 27 stone and i have two young children, one SEN so i need to do something. Stress is a trigger which makes me eat.

i have some questions if anyone who has taken MJ can help please?

  1. is it safe? This is my main concern about putting something into my body as i saw on the news alot of people saying Ozempic wasn’t safe and had alot of unknowns
  2. can you in theory eat what you want? Is it just your appetite which is supressed so you don’t want to eat? I’m just thinking about christmas/nights out etc?
  3. side effects - a few people saying acid reflux, assume this could be sorted out with omeprazole or rennies etc?

just grateful to hear people’s experiences really. To the point where i think being this overweight will start affecting me soon anyway so surely MJ can’t be anymore dangerous than the side effects of obesity but are there any risks such as blood clots or more serious things like that? I saw ozempic had been linked to pancreas problems i think it was.

thanks in advance

Well i think i’m going to take the plunge and order them today. I can drive myself mad wondering what if this and what if that but the only way i’ll know is to give it a go. I am worried about safety but like many others have said, and i agree, the effects of obesity are also a massive risk and aside from anything else i am miserable!
@SilkFloss i’m going to get mine from Asda pharmacy. I’d rather pay a little more and feel peace of mind that its a reputable company, knowing my luck i’d choose a dodgy site 🤣. I did see a website called Juniper that was selling it for £135 i think it was but i wouldn’t know if it was safe or not. You can get your first order from Asda for £160 as they have £20 off atm

Asda is just a name you will know I believe they use ZAVA who you can also buy from directly. There are a lot of reputable registered pharmacies providing support. There is a list somewhere of the providers and current prices I'll try to find it.

I started with ZAVA and now buy from Oushk, I think the starter pen is £140 and they have a permanent discount code of Oushk10 to give 10% off. They allow you to select a delivery date and use either Royal Mail or DPD which is helpful as you need to be in for delivery and to put in the fridge. They have a facebook support page which is also useful.

The pens need to be stored between 2-8 degrees (including during transit), they then last until their expiry date, until first used. Once out of fridge temperatures/or first use the pens need to be used within 30 days they officially have 4 doses/weeks but you can get a 5th out.

There are a few Facebook pages which I have found useful in the past, but facebook is cracking down on all promo codes, microdosing, using 5th dose etc and closing sites down so MN is currently the best place to get that sort of information/experience. If you are keeping your MJ use private you can create a secondary facebook profile to join them and your family/friends wont see your posting/membership of the groups.

bringmelaughter · 17/09/2024 12:43

There’s a referral code for Asda I’ve popped on the referrals/discounts thread in the injectables section. It gives you and me a 10% discount if you want to use it. I went with Asda as I could collect rather than having it delivered which I preferred. You can still get it delivered if you want though. My experience of Asda and mounjaro has been good.

Did you go for it @Bunny2607?

Did you go for it @Bunny2607?

I did 😳😳 i ordered through Asda pharmacy yesterday and then i had to send a side photo of myself and also a pic of my weight on the scales with the date written on a piece of paper. Just waiting to hear back now. I’m worried about the side effects but excited at the same time, been watching loads of tiktok videos to learn of people’s experiences. And i just think the side effects can’t be any worse than being so overweight and eating for the sake of it. I was out of puff just doing the school run this morning!

OP posts:
Bunny2607 · 19/09/2024 15:08

So i’ve had an email to say i can collect my order so going to go get it shortly! I’m wanting to do my first injection tonight thinking if i have any side effects i’m off work tomorrow and it also might stop me binge eating over the weekend, but i’ve had a mcdonalds today 🙈🙈 this is what i mean about the state i’ve got myself into. So my question is, do you think the mounjaro will “react” because i’ve got fatty food in my body should i wait til
tomorrow? I haven’t eaten anything else today apart from McDonalds.

OP posts:
SilenceInside · 19/09/2024 15:27

I wouldn't worry about eating a McDonald's today. Assuming it was a normal meal and not a huge binge. I think it's sensible to start when you've got some time off in case you have any immediate side effects. The chances of that are low though, remember that those posting here about issues are massively outweighed by those who have had no bothersome side effects at all and so have no reason to post.

Thank you @SilenceInside yes thats very true about the hundreds of people who have no side effects!
and it was a double quarter pounder meal with fries and a diet coke, so not great but also not a binge and like i say i’d not eaten anything before that and haven’t eaten since so i wouldn’t say my stomach is absolutely full! Will probably be 7 hours been eating and the injection if i do take it tonight. I’m just weighing up whether to wait til Saturday as i’m having my hair done tomorrow and maybe out with DH tomorrow night so don’t want to make myself poorly for that, have also got my toddler for most of tomorrow! So have thought about waiting til Saturday morning but would prefer to do it on a thursday i think as a rule as hoping it will keep me on track for the weekend.

i’m working myself up into a frenzy over it and i bet it turns out to be a total non event with no side effects 🤣

@Bunny2607 well done! I’ve gone for it today too 😬. Have you joined the late September starters thread?

Oh no I haven’t seen that thread i’ll have a look now! I’m going to do my first injection this morning, bit nervous 😵‍💫
also hoping it will change my life 🤣 had a sobering realisation last night that i’ve put on nearly 10 stone since 2017 😳😳

@Bunny2607 we all let the weight go on at some point. Remember though it took 7 years to go on so it will take time to come off. Give yourself room to breathe and be patient with yourself.

I find it really helpful to have loads and loads of tiny targets because the BIG one is just too far away. I congratulate myself at every 7lb loss, at every 5% bodyweight lost, at every clothing size change, at every inch off my waist....... celebrate the small wins because they're going to be what gets you to the big one.

Thank you @InfoSecInTheCity for your kind words. I do think beating ourselves up does alot of harm! I got weighed this morning and done my first dose 😳 start weight was 27stone 5.6lbs so first mini goal for me is to get into the next stone bracket. I’m going to switch over to the September starters thread but thank you all to everyone who has commented, i don’t think i’d have taken the plunge with mounjaro if it wasn’t for this thread!

hello, did you lose weight? did you have side effects?

Hiya!
i did indeed yes, week 6 today and have lost 16.5lbs.
i always inject on a Saturday morning and my side effects are at their worst sunday night to monday night/tuesday morning. Only side effects i have are lots of wind 🙈🙈 and sometimes sulphur burps but that tends to happen more if i eat something unhealthy over the weekend after i first inject.

If you eat certain high fat or rich foods, you may get an upset tummy and the runs.

Phonicshaskilledmeoff · 02/11/2024 18:14

Bunny2607 · 15/09/2024 21:44

Thank you both thats really helpful! I didn’t realise it was already a drug for diabetes so that makes me feel abit better. I got a bit spooked when Ozempic hit the press about the safety concerns, but yea agree the risks with being obese are also a consideration especially at my weight.

so do you think MJ stops you from sort of mindless eating? Like usually when i get home from work i’m picking at the cupboards out of boredom admittedly and also stress.

i guess i haven’t got anything to lose by giving it a go? And the worse that will happen is i’ve lost £200 and stop taking it because of side effects. How long do the pens last for?

TIA x

I’d be shocked if your gp didn’t prescribe it for you. My friend is barely overweight and she’s had it on nhs. It’s definitely worth a try.

SilenceInside · 02/11/2024 18:16

@Phonicshaskilledmeoff does your friend have diabetes? Otherwise I'm amazed that a GP has prescribed it for a non-obese person. As far as I was aware nearly all GP don't even prescribe it for morbidly obese people on the tier 3 level, and if they do prescribe injections it's Wegovy not Mounjaro.

Not diabetes- but had ballooned due to steroid use.
yes you’re right it was semiglutide.

olddoglover · 03/11/2024 09:56

Has anyone stopped taking Mounjaro and not managed to put weight back on? Worried about spending a lot of money to lose weight then it going back on. Can't take it forever. Have 2 stone to lose.

olddoglover · 03/11/2024 10:11

Also, has anyone tried taking a break and going back on it? If I started next week would like to take a break for Christmas to have a few drinks.

There's this thread where people who have stopped are posting weekly updates which might be helpful to you

I’ve finished Mounjaro - weekly update to report on what happens when you finish! www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weight-loss-injections/5197723-ive-finished-mounjaro-weekly-update-to-report-on-what-happens-when-you-finish

I'm reading these threads with great interest and I'm considering starting Mounjaro in preference to Ozempic.
I'm a bit, I don't know, concerned ? about these online doctors though?
How does one know who/what they are? I mean, frankly, they could be anyone just ticking the box and saying, "sure, pay us the money and go ahead."

I felt sick as a dog on ozempic and didn’t even finish the first injection pen, but with Mounjaro, I feel much better.
I have had a little bit of acid reflux, but that has been down to what I was eating. As long as I’m eating lots of veggies and fruit, I don’t get it.
It has quietened all the food noise and I can’t eat nearly as much. What I’m working on now is getting in good habits and trying to be really healthy eating..
I’m seeing some people talk about socialising and drinking and I just find it extraordinary that people still want to have big meals out and drink alcohol when that’s what got them to where they are in the first place. you can still go out just eat less. It’s also not good to have alcohol on these things and in general when you’re trying to lose weight.

I’ve not had a break from it, but by Friday i can feel it wearing off (Saturday is my jab day) so it would be quite straightforward to just basically not take it again and then if you wanted to change your jab day you could then, or just start retaking it whenever you want to

@Bunny2607 good luck! I suggest starting a November starter thread if there isn’t one already so you can all support each other.
Yes you do still need willpower. I do suggest using the counselling offered by Asda (I think). I imagine having a SEN child is stressful and tiring so use the tools offered to plan around triggers and low points. Recognising MacDonalds isn’t a great choice means you’re halfway there. It’s a journey so don’t beat yourself up. Good nutrition will set you up to face your day well. Soon you’re going to be the one singing it’s’ praises!
