Using Mounjaro whilst on mini pill for PCOS

Hello!
My daughter has been diagnosed with PCOS and as her periods would sometimes be anything up to 50 days apart the GP put her on a POP pill to keep her womb lining thin.

She’s desperate to lose weight so is looking at Mounjaro - to be perfectly honest she doesn’t eat a massive amount anyway so it may not even work but she’s wiling to give it a go.

Her weight distribution is odd (clear it’s PCOS) large back and shoulders and moon face but she does also carry weight on her legs and tummy.

Has anyone with PCOS had any benefit from Mounjaro and is using it alongside the pill an issue - no contraceptive needed from the pill, it was just to keep her womb lining thin. She likes the fact she doesn’t get periods at all.

I am only on week 1 and I'm 4 days post 2nd injection.

I have PCOS and I have many symptoms but the worst was sugar cravings which has pretty much disappeared.

Too early to tell if there are any other positive effects for my PCOS but others have mentioned reduction in facial hair / unwanted hair and a more balanced mood.

Thank you! If you are able to could you post your progress please? DD doesn’t eat excessively now I’d say, perhaps some of the wrong things but she doesn’t eat breakfast at all so is fasting for quite long periods. Still doesn’t lose weight though.

The reason the Pill isn't an effective contraceptive while using Mounjaro is because you can't guarantee the correct levels of the drug remains in your system constantly for it to be effective as contraceptive. So whether it will continue to work for her for the issues she's treating with it, depends how high a level of the Pill hormones she needs for those effects to happen.

Anecdotally, a lot of people with implants have found that their periods return when using Mounjaro alongside it, even if they had years of no periods before starting Mounjaro. And the implant isn't affected by digestion (the reason the Pill is affected) so the levels of hormones from the implant in their systems remains unchanged yet Mounjaro is still having an effect on their menstrual cycles.

So I guess the answer is: no one really knows.

I weighed myself after week one and had lost 5lbs however, I have ALOT to lose.

My next weigh in after my 2nd week is on Thursday.

Hi I’m week 6 on mounjaro and I feel so much more energetic and feel excess hair has slowed down slightly I also have pcos I can’t say for the pill as I’m not on it but I think all it effects is the protection side, honestly I wish I had started sooner I worryed for so long about finances and being to keep it up but £109 a month when I woke out what I spend on takeaways and junk I probs spend more than that in a month, xx

I have PCOS. I'm on week 12 and take desogestrel for my periods. I've now lost 2 stone very steadily without any stalls or hiccups. I bled a tiny bit for the first few weeks - spotting really. Then it settled. I'd recommend it completely. Good luck to your daughter.

SarahOnMj · 03/09/2024 08:39

That's amazing good luck to her I order through MedExpress who seem to be the cheapest at the moment x

Garlicandchilli · 03/09/2024 18:06

Shes still waiting to hear from Zava, she placed the order on Sunday 🤯🤯

Garlicandchilli · 03/09/2024 21:33

Yes she’s checked her junk mail, when she goes onto the account it simply says ‘processing’.

The email has come now! She’s taken a picture with the date on paper alongside and a pic of the scales, she’s keen to start now so let’s hope it comes soon

Hiya, I just wondered if there is any updates here about using mountjaro for your daughter, both weight and PCOS symptoms. I'm planning to start once I've stopped breastfeeding and I have PCOS. Thanks

Garlicandchilli · 03/10/2024 20:14

Hiya, my daughter is doing well. She’s on week 4 of 2.5 and has lost 13lb.

She feels a little cold for a day or so after her jab, she’s had good suppression but not enough to put her off eating all together, it’s just meant she has the mind space to make healthy choices. She’s got probably about 5 stone to lose and is having around 1200 cals a day. She feels quite satisfied on that.

She has had some light breakthrough bleeding and her acne has kicked off a bit which is a shame as the mini pill had really sorted that out. I think it interacts with the absorption of the pill so I wouldn’t rely on that for contraception if I were you.

It’s definitely helping to suppress her appetite a little and possibly helping with the insulin resistance as the weight has come off quite easily so far. She feels it is a life changing thing and is glad she’s done it.
