Help…. Is this the real deal

I have just picked up my first prescription of Mounjaro from Boots. The shop is well air conditioned (it’s a hot day) but the items were not in the fridge.

Having got home and looked in the package there is a plain white cardboard box containing 4 small injector pens and a sharps box. Nowhere on the white box or the injections can I see the word Mounjaro. Just says 4 x micro fine ultra hypodermic insulin needles for pre-filled/reusable pen injectors screw on. They are tiny… maybe 2cm. I was expecting something longer. There are no instructions or leaflets included about the product or for injecting so I had a look online and also searched images for mounjaro to see if I could recognise pens that look like the one I have received. I can’t.
I am a bit anxious about the first ‘injection’ as I haven’t done it before. I guess this is normal. Advice please. I’m a bit lost.

That doesn't sound like mounjaro to me, assuming you're in the UK. The only format approved in the UK is a multidose injector pen.

I would go back to the pharmacy and discuss it with the pharmacist. Ideally, next time, you should check your medication while you're still in the pharmacy because that makes it easier to resolve any issues.

If you wanted you could post a photograph of what you've received and someone might be able to give you a better answer.

If you bought from a boots its real, they wouldn't sell fake drugs. Insulin needles are tiny and if your not used to using them you could easily not actually be geting any. Did no-one show you or explain how to administer? Is it definitely Mounjaro? Thats a brand name and there are alternative injections.

Time4changeagain · 28/08/2024 16:23

It sounds like the actual medication pen is missing. I got the needles in a box (not boots)

WeAllHaveWings · 28/08/2024 16:25

Strange.....can you share a photo?

WeAllHaveWings · 28/08/2024 16:29

You should have a pen like this and then at least 4 x pen needles like the small piece on the bottom left of the picture.

Sounds like they had your prescription ready, but forgot to take the pen out the fridge and put it in and only gave you the needles.

If you are not familiar with the pen and setup yet try watching youtube videos of what to do, then read the instructions, they are much easier to understand after watching a video

Here's one, but there are loads on youtube you can watch.

twentysevendresses · 28/08/2024 16:37

Sounds like you've just got a box of needles.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 28/08/2024 16:46

I agree with twentysevendresses!! It sounds like 4 needles and a sharps bin 😩

spuddy4 · 28/08/2024 16:50

I use boots and they've definitely forgotten to go to the fridge for the actual Mounjaro and just given you the needles and sharps box. They've nearly done it to me a few times and I've had to say I think my medication is in the fridge. Very annoying because you have to go back.

SilenceInside · 28/08/2024 17:04

I'd go back and complain as it's pretty poor behaviour from a pharmacy! It does sound like they've only given you the disposable needles and the sharps box, and forgotten to actually give you the medication itself.

90yomakeuproom · 28/08/2024 17:25

I agree with the above posts. Can you upload a picture of what you've been given?

Wilkina1 · 28/08/2024 19:22

This is what I received from Boots, plus the sharps bin. Sorry new to posting and couldn’t see an edit button to add to my original post

It looks like I have not received my actual product, just the 4 needles. did say to the girl it will most probably be in the fridge. Pus as it is first time prescription I didn’t know what I was looking for. Should have googled before going. Back up to the high street tomorrow 🙄. Thank you everyone. I would not have known if not for your responses today. Could have been an expensive mistake.

Oh how frustrating!!

A pp is incorrect, there are no other brand names for MJ, in the UK you should only receive MJ and always in a multi dose kwikpen. No other version is legal here.

Edited

No one explained anything. I didn’t think it would be difficult. I will be looking at some videos as someone on here suggested

Photo isn't showing up on the mobile website but the app can sometimes be a bit funny so it might be showing up for others.

Wilkina1 · 28/08/2024 20:53

Yes, the pen is definitely missing!!!
