Mounjaro newbie questions

Sorry I know these will have been covered on here somewhere but really grateful for some clarification on a few things.

I’m overweight but also keen to try Mounjaro to see if it helps my autoimmune, fatigue and chronic pain issues as there seem to be so many favourable reports. Either way I need to lose weight due to health issues and seem unable to.

  1. my BMI is only just over 30. What happens once you get below 30 - do they continue to prescribe?

  2. I don’t want this on my gp record at least until I see if it helps me and if I can tolerate it (as I don’t tolerate many things). Is there a reputable supplier I can be sure won’t inform without consent?

  3. any experiences of using it to help reduce inflammation and pain and what would you do long term?

thanks

Hi!

  1. Yes, the over 30 BMI is only a requirement to be able to get on it initially, but once you start it, prescribers can continue to provide it until you reach a healthy BMI / maintenance.
  2. Most reputable suppliers should be informing your GP, and I would be concerned if they don’t tbh. That being said though, my supplier- MedExpress only sent my GP a letter a few weeks back (and I first started it in May!).
  3. No experience with that, but from what I’ve heard from others- helps with that too!

Good luck! It is totally worth it, I do not regret at all starting it!

cappycap · 26/08/2024 12:42

Cloud Pharamcy, Voy and Health Express give the option to input GP details. If you don't input, they don't inform.

I personally use Cloud Pharmacy which I've found very good and a good price. I can't vouch for the other suppliers as not used them.

Marbles55 · 17/09/2024 08:47

Thanks for the info. Any other experiences with autoimmune / chronic pain ?

I went with Voy because they give you the option to inform GP or not (They also advise that it would be better but the choice is yours). I too didnt want to inform my GP for your reasons and more. I got a discount from a poster here and happy to pm you if you want one.

Yes I believe most will continue to prescribe after you go below 30bmi even if you change providers as long as you show the receipt of your first dose where it shows your starting bmi being the right one. Some offer maintenance dose even after youve reached your goal weight but I can't remember which one now.

I'm still yet to start mine and hoping it helps with the same issues as you besides weightloss. That would be fantastic!

Thanks @MounjaroHereICome . Good to know.

Can I check it would be ok to get it ordered (so I know I’m approved) but not start for a couple of weeks ? Any reason this would be a problem ?

Hi. Seriously considering MJ, and have a few questions:

Do you lose your sense of taste?

I'm a 'bored' eater, I.e. I eat when I'm not hungry- does this stop this?

I live in Central Scotland - is there a supplier that's most reliable in this area?

I believe it arrives, and has to be kept cold, is there a time limit for this?

Thanks all

SilenceInside · 24/09/2024 16:15

@Marbles55 as far as I'm aware, the process of applying and completing the online consultation is part of creating your first order. I haven't heard of any sites where you sign up and get approved but then don't get a prescription issued straightaway.

The injection pen has a long shelf life, the expiry date should be well into 2025. So I would sign up and get the first pen sent to you. Once you've got it in your fridge at home, it's then up to you when you start to use it.

SilenceInside · 24/09/2024 16:21

@PolaDeVeboise losing your sense of taste is not a known side effect of Mounjaro. I certainly haven't lost my sense of taste.

I was an absolute boredom eater, for me I was very fortunate that I stopped that behaviour on the day I did my first injection. I am not interested in snacks, I'm not constantly thinking about food. It just all stopped.

I don't know anything about reliable suppliers for central Scotland, but plenty of companies use Royal Mail or DPD. If you have a preference for a delivery company you could check if the online pharmacy you choose uses that one or not. Some let you pick up from a pharmacy, Asda do and I thinks Boots as well. They are more expensive than the less well known companies though.

The pen is delivered in cold packaging. From my supplier, that means wrapped in wool insulation with two frozen ice packs. For next day delivery the packs are still frozen solid when it arrives. Once I had to have a redelivery the next day, and the ice packs were mostly melted but the pen was still fridge cold.

Darkfloods · 24/09/2024 16:23

@PolaDeVeboise I’ve only taken 2 injections so far so not an expert.
So far my food had tasted better than it did before. I still want food but am cleaving healthier foods like soups and fruit over stodgy foods. I enjoy what I eat more but eat less and feel satisfied.
I too am a bored eater and it really does help, before taking the injection I could happily graze all day!

The pen can be below 30 degrees for for 30 days, it doesn’t have be be refrigerated if you plan to use it within a couple of days of it being sent.

I use MedExpress, they send via Royal Mail. I’m been very happy with them (for the one order I’ve received so far) and can send you my discount code if you wish.

PolaDeVeboise · 24/09/2024 16:46

Thanks all, that's really helpful!@Darkfloods, I'm not QUITE there yet, but will give you a shout when I am- assuming the offer will still be there x

PolaDeVeboise · 25/09/2024 07:57

Hi. Another few questions , if you don't mind...

Do you have to force yourself to eat, or do you still feel natural hunger?

I'm on thyroxine and HRT, does that matter?

I like a drink, does alcohol clash with the meds?

Thanks

Scotty80 · 25/09/2024 08:14

@PolaDeVeboise I was on mounjaro for 13 weeks and lost 30 pounds.
My experience is that I did have to force myself to eat a lot of the time, sometimes I would reach afternoon and found I hadn’t eaten yet. The 7.5mg dose made me nauseous a lot too. I take thyroxine (100mg) and it was fine, however alcohol didn’t agree with me while I was taking mounjaro. I’m not a big drinker anyway but found I could only manage one or two drinks, and even then a couple of times I felt quite ill so it really wasn’t worth it.

Darkfloods · 25/09/2024 08:24

@PolaDeVeboise I don’t force myself to eat but I am on the lowest dose so I don’t know how that changes as the dose increases. You don’t have to increase dose if you find a dose you are comfortable on.

I’m on HRT as are many others taking Mounjaro and it’s fine to combine.

It seems that many people lose their taste for alcohol.

PolaDeVeboise · 25/09/2024 14:50

Hi @Darkfloods are you able to share the code here? Or can you DM me?

Thank you.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 25/09/2024 14:54

@PolaDeVeboise we are asked not to share codes other than the official MBHQ codes thread or discounts board. You'll find discount codes for loads of different suppliers on that thread. Good luck!

PolaDeVeboise · 25/09/2024 14:55

Ooops, sorry! Thanks.

Darkfloods · 25/09/2024 15:26

It’s under the name Darkflames, just realised I had named changed!

PolaDeVeboise · 25/09/2024 17:27

Fuck me, I've only gone and done it! Thanks all- the new me is just around the corner!

PolaDeVeboise · 25/09/2024 17:28

Oh, and thanks @Darkfloods !

Darkfloods · 25/09/2024 17:38

@PolaDeVeboise good luck! I didn’t think I would feel any impact until I had been on it a few weeks but the next day I wasn’t rummaging around the kitchen for snacks which was very unlike me.

PolaDeVeboise · 25/09/2024 18:38

SO excited by that. I'm OBSESSED with the next thing I can eat!

Hello, I've been on Maunjaro since July. Previously I could have eaten a large amount of food in one sitting. I would crave certain things and would snack throughout the day. Now I have no desire for food no matter what it is. I don't miss it, however I remember how much I used to love food. I still get hungry but I'm filled after a small amount. Everything tastes the same, but I feel uncomfortable if I eat too much. I have an under active thyroid and this hasn't caused any issues at all. If I have any alcohol I feel like I crave takeaway however I can only eat a small amount before I'm completely satisfied.

Hi OP@Marbles55 Sorry I've not replied. Only just seen this. i thought it was removed.

Yes it should be fine, I see no reason why not. Once approved and ordered, you can store in the fridge till you're ready to use it. It lasts for a while unused.
