5th dose/bonus dose 10mg Mounjaro

HaleyBrookeandPeyton · 23/08/2024 09:46

I have done the '5th dose' on every pen since I started on 2.5mg but now Im at 10mg Im not sure how much Mounjaro will be in the 5th dose?

I dont really want to have more than 12.5mg today (including the 10mg from the 4th dose) does anyone know how much mounjaro will actually be in the 5th dose of a 10mg pen?

There used to be a lot of info about this on facebook but its all been taken down now.

Thank you

How much you get if you extract the liquid will vary depending on how much you have used for priming and how much liquid is left.

0.6ml or if you successfully use the kwikpen to go from 1 back down to 0 is a full dose regardless of strength.

If you extract more than 0.6ml you can calculate how much that is using basic maths. e.g. if you extracted 0.9ml from the 10mg pen -

10mg / 0.6ml x 0.9ml = 15mg dose

The information in those listings is inaccurate, misleading and potentially dangerous.

Furball · 24/04/2025 10:54

I don't know as I have never had the 5th dose - but, could you weigh the pen then take a dose out and weigh it again? the you would know how much weight the dosage is and do the same with the bonus dose?

SilenceInside · 24/04/2025 10:59

This post is from August last year so presumably the OP has figured it out or not done it.

@Furball weighing would be totally inaccurate, the quantities of medication are less than 1ml, as well as utterly unnecessary. What you would do is use a medical grade 1ml syringe to extract any remaining medication, and use some simple maths to work out what the dosage is. The pen itself is marked to indicate that each dose is 0.6ml in volume. That's also in the patient info leaflet. You know what dose the pen is, in the OPs case she had a 10mg pen. Then, some basic maths as @WeAllHaveWings has explained.

You are only talking about 0.6ml of liquid which would weigh something like 0.6g. You would firstly need very accurate scales. Then how do you know when you have dispensed 0.6g when you have a needle in you?

The most accurate, and simplest way to measure a dose is a 1ml syringe. The syringes are very cheap, I don't see the need for more complex and less accurate "solutions".

GustyBaloo · 24/04/2025 11:30

Every new pen you get should say on the packaging that a 0.6ml dose contains - in this instance - 10mg.

If you've been doing the 5th dose since 2.5, then it's exactly the same. 0.6ml.

What makes you question it now?

GustyBaloo · 24/04/2025 11:32

I've re-read your post. I'm assuming you weren't measuring, just injecting it all.

BlazenWeights · 24/04/2025 16:01

Is it safe to say then that the “5th dose” if you don’t extract it with an insulin syringe, cannot ever be more than 0.6ml. Say you were able to twist it to 1?

It is much simpler and easier to use a syringe now for the 5th dose, as sometimes you won't know hard twist is not working until the needle is in and it isn't allowing you to press the dose knob back down.

My first 5 pens worked with hard twist ok. Last 3 haven't. One the dose knob went loose so couldn't use. The next two the dose knob seemed ok, but when I injected it would only depress a little before it was stuck. The old pens would not dispense more than 0.6ml as a 5th dose, sometimes it would be slightly less (as plunger hit the end/curve in the glass vial)

Are you nervous about using a syringe? I was too, especially with the longer 8mm needles - I bought some and looking at them there was no way I could use them. Then I got a needle the same length and gauge as my pen needles and it was exactly the same, if not easier, than using the pen.

WeAllHaveWings · 26/04/2025 14:44

I would advise posters to stick with trusted and safe methods, such as a syringe where they can actually see how much they are injecting themselves.

I have extracted up to 0.9ml before with a syringe on the 5th dose. I could easily see and could reduce/measure what I was injecting to the exact volume I wanted.

Trusting stuff like this off ebay where you can only guess the quantity you are injecting, from postings where the "advice" in them doesn't even get the units right is not sensible. There is only additional risk with these types of "tools" and no benefits.

SilenceInside · 26/04/2025 14:47

Totally agree with @WeAllHaveWings - the only “kit” you need is a medical grade syringe, that’s all.

And you can get a pack of 10 of those for nearly the same price to do 10 months worth of 5th doses! (a little bit more if you want a 4mm or 6mm needle)

WeAllHaveWings · 26/04/2025 15:20

And still you cannot get your information accurate.

SilenceInside · 26/04/2025 15:23

0.2ml difference is appalling considering that a dose is 0.6ml. Not 6ml. You don’t seem able to get the decimal point in the correct place!

SilenceInside · 26/04/2025 15:24

Nonsense. Stop trying to advertise your “kits” here.

NewDogOwner · 26/04/2025 15:30

Be aware, if you do this over a few months and then don't need a pen one month, they will make you start the programme from the beginning at .5ml.

WeAllHaveWings · 26/04/2025 15:30

It is not "safe" if the medication cannot be measured accurately.

What dose is .5ml ?? Confused

SilenceInside · 26/04/2025 15:34

It’s not a “safe as possible” solution it’s a load of hacky nonsense when a simple syringe will do the job perfectly and cheaply.

@NewDogOwner pharmacies have different procedures about how long it’s been since ordering, having a month gap between orders isn’t necessarily a problem. The starting dose for Mounjaro is 2.5mg not 0.5mg, btw.
