Is this normal or should I cease and desist?

It's not that bad, just irritating.

Not something I’ve personally experienced but it’s listed as a common side effect in my patient information booklet. Is it your first jab?

Fedupandstressed · 03/08/2024 20:34

Nope. I had a bit of itching with number 4 2.5
Doctor has just up-ed me to 5

I'll probably get a call from the clinic this week or next, so I'll check with him then.

I would take an oral antihistamine if you have one, that should help with the itching and rash. It's listed as a "common" side effect.

Moier · 03/08/2024 20:36

Take an histamine.
It can happen but very very rare.

MickeyMouseEars · 03/08/2024 20:44

I got this on the 2nd week of starting 5mg, and each week after (for around 3-4 days at a time) for about 2 months, but I barely get a reaction at all now. I did try taking an oral antihistamine but it didn't really help tbh

Fedupandstressed · 03/08/2024 21:01

Yeah. I take fexofenadine daily anyway for hayfever. I do have some phenergan around, but that sends me to sleep.

It’s listed as a ‘common’ side effect by the manufacturer, affecting approx 1 in 10.

As others have said it’s on the list of common side effects in the info booklet. Not very very rare at all. Make sure you are varying your injection site every week and if you are using an alcohol swab to prep your skin check the ingredients in case there are perfumes or similar that you are reacting to.

Yes, I started getting an itchy rash once I was on 5mg, which lasted about 4 days each time. On my second 5mg pen now and the weekly rash has diminished in severity and lasts a couple of days now. Got an over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream to manage it.

Hello, I'm on my 17th jab and last time I noticed a reaction at the injection site (a sort of spotty rash, not really red and not itching) so for my next one (last Sunday) I moved from the upper thigh to lower thigh and now have raised reddish mark (no itching). I usually just alternate between upper thighs but now wonder if I should change to stomach. I've been happy with my weight loss, which has been slow, sometimes only 1-2 lbs per week, and fairly minimal side effects and I had read that injecting in stomach made side effects worse, though others say makes no difference. These last two jabs have been a move up to 7.5mg. Could this be why and will it get worse or better? I have also emailed Shemed. Thanks for your help x

You might be better starting your own thread to ask @pippy1958 instead of using an old thread, but for me the rash/itching started when I changed supplier and needle brand/length. Different brands of pen needles have different lubricants. When I changed pen needles it went away.

For others changing injection site, or taking out of fridge for 30 minutes before, or using antihistamines or a longer needle (switch from 4mm to 6mm) helped. It might be a bit of trial and error to find out which one works for you.

Very common, nothing to worry about
