Injection site reaction, any advice please?

Have been on Mounjaro for 10 weeks with no issues injecting.

However I just did my jab for this week and as I injected I could physically see the fluid puffing up under my skin. It's now raised, swollen and itchy so I'm a little concerned. Has this happened to anyone else? The pen hasn't been in the fridge if that makes a difference.

It's been 15 mins since I injected and its very itchy now.

I have attached a picture of the injection site for reference.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

You could take an antihistamine and see if that helps with the itching. Then I would contact your provider and ask them about it, they should be able to medically advise.

Thank you, I already emailed them so awaiting their response. Good thinking on the antihistamine, will take one now!

Read the side effects, I think allergic reaction is one of them.

I get a local site reaction from mine (it's a reported symptom in 1 in 10 people), but mine is more red and wide spread. If you could see the liquid puffing up before your eyes you've likely injected intradermal instead of subcutaneously, so just under the skin instead of into the fat layer. It should just reabsorb if you have, but you might not get the same efficacy of drug this week

Thank you very much for your response, I think you've hit the nail on the head! Silly me, don't know how I managed that!

@Flabjab it's quite a skill to master intradermal injection! Do you inject at a right angle to the skin? You are much more likely to get subcutaneously if you inject at a right angle and fully insert the needle. Pinching some flesh will help too

alphatoomega · 31/07/2024 17:03

@Flabjab this happened to me at my third jab - didn't insert the needle entirely, but my fourth jab was okay. I'm always worried about getting it wrong again but pinching the flesh does work.

I've had similar to this every time I've injected into my thigh but as someone else has said mine is more widespread, red and itchy as well as slightly raised. Think I'm going to go back to injecting in my stomach.
