Mounjaro for a 40 year old male

Inyourgarden · 09/07/2024 09:12

Happy to hear from men and women, but my journey starts today.

im a 19.5 stone 40 year old male who is fed up of not being able to wear well fitting clothes etc.

I take my first dose of 5mg today.

I love food, and almost always feel hungry, just praying for a miracle

any hints or tips greatly appreciated from those who’ve been there and done it, I really want to get to 13 stone and I know it won’t be easy but I’ll do what it takes i Just need a good kick start

OK so you have confused me!
It it your first dose? If so should it not be 2.5mg? Or is this the first dose of 5mg in which case I assume you have been on mj for 4 weeks or more?

Inyourgarden · 09/07/2024 12:36

No it’s my first dose, going straight in at 5mg, prescribedby doctor not ordered online etc

Ahh well I am still on 2.5 so you are in territory I know nothing about.
But the two biggest things I have learned so far is:

  1. To have a bowl of all bran every day otherwise I get very bunged up.
  2. Watch alcohol... You can feel really shit if you have too much to drink.
Inyourgarden · 09/07/2024 12:55

Haha ok I hate all bran but I may get some in

i don’t touch alcohol I haven’t for 10+ years so no issues there

how have you found it so far?

Welcome! My first advice would be to have a read of the ‘continuing Mounjaro’ threads - we are on 16 now but the early ones are also full of amazing information and advice. There is also a very good post at the top full of advice.

I am hoping your doctor discussed the dosages with you as starting in 5 is fairly hardcore!

I am due my 4th 2.5 tomorrow. Lost 11lbs in the first 2 weeks so 🤞🤞 for my weigh in.

Side effects wise - bunged up at the start of the week and a hideous metallic taste which doesn’t want to go away 😩😩 Am having an interesting couple of days with a very upset stomach at the moment but reckon that was brought on by ‘weekending’ a little too hard! Good luck!

Happycyclist · 09/07/2024 14:47

Inyourgarden... For me it is going well 4 weeks in and 22lb down.
See above Ireallyneed's comment about reading the on going thread is well made and the thread is full of useful info, same applies about new starters June etc.
I am unsure about going up to 5mg in 2 weeks time and am planning to titrate via 3.75...5mg start would be considered pretty strong meat, best of luck the side effects may/may not be quite heavy going.
If it is tough consider a lower dose (less clicks).

Happycyclist · 09/07/2024 15:36

You may find it worth it to look at diet protein shakes (low calorie) as they cam help with keeping your protein consumption up. (to reduce muscle wastage).

Inyourgarden · 09/07/2024 16:44

Thanks for the tips. Sadly I was unable to start today as they didn’t give me any needles! Need to get them tomorrow

That’s an incredible lose in 4 weeks, hope I see similair!

@Inyourgarden I have the advantage of being rather heavy to start.... 20st 8lb. But happy to see a bit go away.

Inyourgarden · 10/07/2024 13:09

Thanks for the heads up, I have now also been given a 2.5mg pen which I’m going to take today

any tips as to where to inject etc? Any foods to eat or avoid etc etc? Thanks

OP posts:
SilenceInside · 10/07/2024 14:14

I'd just make sure you read the patient information leaflet and the instructions on how to use the pen and do the injections very carefully. You need a bit of time to read and re-read the injection instructions. There are several steps and you need to make sure you understand it all before you start to do each step.

Injecting into your stomach is the easiest, as it doesn't require any awkward manoeuvring and you can easily use both hands. Some people do inject into the thigh or even the back of the upper arm, but the instructions recommend the stomach area. There was a picture in my instructions showing the general area - not too near the belly button for example.

In terms of food, as many other people have said on the other posts/threads, if you don't feel like eating much, make sure that what you do eat is nutrient-dense, and prioritise protein over carbs. I have absolutely no appetite for carbs, or salty/fatty foods at the moment.

I did it in the kitchen.... But more seriously my stomach... There are a number of utube videos easily available I watched 2 to give me confidence and that was grand.

I avoid fatty foods and too much carbs but have generally found I largely have had my appetite some what suppressed.

Good luck.

Inyourgarden · 10/07/2024 16:33

Thanks, I took it earlier, feel a bit drained but not sure if that’s in my head haha, I don’t fancy food at all at the moment but we’ll see how tonight goes

Happycyclist · 10/07/2024 17:29

The hunger suppression happened suprisingly quickly for me. 1 to 2 hours I feel, but again it could just be in my mind..

Snozzlemaid · 10/07/2024 19:13

Good luck @Inyourgarden
Glad to hear you got a 2.5 pen to start with.
I was 18st 6lb when I started 6 weeks ago, I'm now 17 stone exactly.
Delighted with how it's going.
I haven't an exact goal in mind as it just seems too big of a thing to face, but would like to lose about 8 stone. That's always felt like I would never ever get there, but now it seems possible after all.

@Inyourgarden How is it going?

Good thanks, lost 5lb in week one, I’m current,y abroad on holiday so week 2 will be interesting haha, I should inject/weigh on weds but it’ll be first thing Friday when I’m home

Well best of luck.

Inyourgarden · 26/07/2024 12:11

back off holiday, a weeks all inclusive where although I didn’t eat much I don’t feel I missed out either, and I lost 5lb!

really pleased with that

OP posts:
IReallyNeedThisToWork · 26/07/2024 12:19

@Inyourgarden wow! That's impressive! Any side effects?

Inyourgarden · 26/07/2024 12:24

Very minimal, not enough to be an issue, week one was a bit worse but worth it. Just took my 3rd injection this morning. 10lb loss in 2 weeks including a week away I’m very happy with

OP posts:
Happycyclist · 26/07/2024 13:23

Great result. Seems that 2.5mg was more than enough to start with... I have chickened out of 5 mg and still only on 3.75mg (by clicking 45) although many seem happy with 5mg.

Absolutely, can’t believe they prescribed me 5mg!

I take my last 2.5mg next weds, I think I will go to 5mg the week after though rather than asking for more 2.5mg, unless I get the same results the next couple of weeks
