Pain Under Left Ribs with Mounjaro?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been using Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) for a little while now and recently started experiencing some discomfort that I wanted to check with you all about.

I’ve noticed a pain under my left ribs, specifically towards the back. It’s not constant but seems to get worse when I bend or twist my torso. Pressing on the area also makes it hurt more. I haven’t had any major changes in my activity level, so I’m curious if this could be a side effect of the medication.

Has anyone else here experienced similar pains or discomfort in this area while on Mounjaro? If so, how did you manage it? I’m planning to talk to my doctor, but I wanted to see if this is something others have encountered.

I'm on Saxenda and have been for nearly 4 weeks and had a similar pain, mine is more to my front. It comes and goes, when I have the pain it lasts around a couple of hours then can go away for days. Not sure what it is but hopefully someone will have answers.

Might be gallbladder pain/gallstones if you're suddenly not eating much? Does it mention any side effects on the paperwork? I had this when following a very low calorie regime for a few months and felt pretty rough

Update: Saw my GP, who said it’s probably a muscle strain or costochondritis.

I’m on it too and have exactly the same thing. It’s worse when I lean forward or sit up straight.

It's really important to get any pain like this checked, just as the OP did. Weight loss puts you at increased risk of gallstones, and there is a known elevated risk of pancreatitis on GLP-1 medications.

Had what seemed like a bad reaction to an increase to 7.5mg. Pain under left rib - went to GP and specifically referred to Mounjaro and pancreatitis risk etc. Told it might be costochrondritis. But chest x ray showed possible small pleural effusion. No reason to suspect pneumonia as no fever, cold, cough etc and bloods showed no infection but whacked onto antibiotics. I’m not convinced and there’s some literature re pleural effusion and pancreatitis so I’m taking a break from Mounjaro for now. Shame as it was going well until recently.

Hi I'm on mounjaro last 2 weeks and have exactly as you described. Pain left side to the front only when I lean forward or pick something up to the side. No other symptoms that would suggest pancreatitis. Did you ever figure it out?

@MammaGrace I just started and I have this same pain/dull ache. I would notice it before starting, but it's more constant now. Did you see your GP? I couldn't get an appointment today...

I have been having same exact pain on the left side since I started 7.5mg and I have stopped losing weight every week ,u know every week you lose 2lb . Has anyone else stopped losing weight while still taking the shots ?
