Got approved Sunday & injection arrives today! Terrified & excited in equal measures ( actually a bit more terrified!)
I'm 51 & have struggled since late reens weight wise and yoyo'd lots!
Since peri-menopause ive gained so much weight around my middle which I know is such a worry health wise! My weight has been creeping up & not yoyo'ing down!

So - wondering what your tips are for week 1, what helped you reduce side effects?

Also wondering how you have explained what you are doing to those close to you who need to know as it will seem quite drastic to many!

Thank you - this seems such a supportive page

I didn't get any side effects. I haven't told anyone I'm doing it!

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 02/07/2024 06:23

I also haven’t told anyone!

Only on week 2 so not an expert but side effects wise - I seem to get a metallic taste in my mouth which drinking water helps. I’ve been a bit windy but nothing serious. Feel a bit backed up around days 2-4 but so far it’s moving without having to take anything.

Generally, I feel I have more energy (I’m not generally up at 6.22 am!!) and am much more focused. I even cleared out the Tupperware cupboard yesterday!

have a good read of the first post in the latest ‘continuing Mounjaro’ thread and good luck

WannabeHealthier · 02/07/2024 06:23

Drink water and lots of it

Eat healthy and maximise protein

All of this and more is covered on the main threads (pinned first post)

If you do get side effects they will probably be mild and pass quickly - it’s not comparable to Ozempic/WeGovy which is notorious for bad side effects

Good luck! I’ve lost nearly 3 stone in 4 months and so glad I made the decision to take it

swizzlestix · 02/07/2024 06:46

Ahh thanks both - appreciate your replies! Wow wannabe thats incredible and reassuring to hear!

Just commenting to say that mine arrives today too - I’m so excited! Let me know how you get on OP :)

I started last Friday and so far so good. Reading through various threads I did mine on Friday night so that I would be asleep when it started to kick in and had the biggest benefit over the weekend (my weakness) before it started to wear off. I think that was good advice as it definitely had an effect over the weekend and is starting to wear off now. Only side effects I've had are being thirstier than usual and being a bit constipated today, I have psyllium capsules so I'm hoping to get on the move soon.

I was quite nervous doing the injection but the needles is so thin and small I wouldn't have noticed it if I wasn't the one doing it. I got slightly worked up about it, then felt like a right prat once I'd done it 😆

swizzlestix · 02/07/2024 10:11

Great to hear from you both, thats reassuring to hear the eve worked well for you.
Its arrived!! Feel sick with nerves! May try to hydrate myself and eat well today then take this evening. Not sure though as may be out on a work visit tomo am so worried i wont be near home if do feel rough.

Ooh exciting PrincessP - keep us posted too!

I'm in my first week, first injection was Thursday (terrifying - but totally fine in the end - make sure you're in a quiet room where you won't be disturbed)
I've lost 5lbs in 5 days, and had zero (bad) side effects.
Good side effects are that I have tons of energy. I've been getting up earlier than usual and just bouncing around all day! My mood seems a lot happier in general too - could just be because I've already lost weight and feel very positive about this whole thing? Good luck!

(I'm similar age to you - 50 - and also carry all my weight in my stomach area)

It might ease your worries if you plan for every eventuality. I got strong heartburn tablets, anti-nausea stuff and psyllium husk in just in case. I haven't had any side effects yet but it's good to know I have what I need if I do get any.

EsotericMnemonic · 02/07/2024 15:56

One mistake I made was to have a big ‘blow out’ meal (one last hurrah type affair, a big Chinese takeaway from what I remember) before taking the jab. This meant I felt pretty awful once I’d had the jab with all that food in my stomach.

However, it’s not possible to predict whether you’ll experience side effects so they’re hard to plan for. Even now (I’ve been taking it since early March) I may experience nausea one week but not the next. Just have a plan, so know what you can take to help with heartburn/ nausea/ constipation/ diarrhea. Don’t be hard on yourself if all you can manage for the first couple of days is beige food. I had moderate nausea and very mild vomiting to start with so stick to crackers and similar, but I’ve managed a very balanced diet with lots of fruit and veg since.

Good luck!

I'm in my 4th week and it's going brilliant, 12lbs down, 4th weigh on Friday, hopefully I'll make it to 1 stone in a month, which honestly would've been impossible without Mounjaro.

Absolutely no need to worry, I felt the same as you but so wish I'd statred months ago. No side effects to speak of, only thing is sometimes feel a little chilly. I actually feel the best I have in years.

My tips would be loads of water and protein.

Everything you read says minimum 100g protein a day. Buy a clear isolate protein drink to make it easier.

Avoid alcohol- honestly you won't even be bothered about a drink anyway but you absolutely will know about it the next day if you do drink.

Oh, and join the continuing Mounjaro thread, it's amazing and so helpful if you have any queries.

Good luck!

You are all so lovely, thank you for all your support & advice. You are doing amazingly, its exciting but terrifying!

Just did first injection , it was fine (I think!) but was also like omggg cant believe i'm doing this!

Decided to start tonight as have been really well hydrated today and eaten well but not too much if that makes sense.
Will hop over to the 'continuing' board for more top tips.

Hey @swizzlestix , just wondering how you're getting on?
I'm still super-energised and have lost a couple more pounds since my last post.
Hope it's all going well!

Hey @LionAndEmperor13 thanks for asking & great work - you are smashing it!
So far so good here.
Injected tues eve then felt a bit nauseous with Zero appetite Wednesday but managed to eat. The nausea eased Thursday and have felt amazing since. Have actually felt hunger today but remembering this is ok and i'm def not over eating! Think my body is in shock from feeling so hydrated and i feel wayyyy less bloated already!
