Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Re EXPIRY DATES

Might be useful to know, but approach with caution - There was a letter from Eli Lilly & med express to say that efficacy shows they are adding 5 months to expiry on current batches

(I only got my first pen a few weeks back from medexpress with an expiry of this month! So effectively they are saying mine is good until October)

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 14/05/2024 21:05

I was chatting to colleagues today about what we're wearing to a work event in 10 days time. I was laughing to myself as, when I started this journey three weeks ago, I did think that this was going to be a magic bullet, that the weight would fall off me and I'd be sashaying around in my slinky dress. I'd spent quite a bit of time before starting this wondering whether I would admit to being on the drug when everyone was stunned by my dramatic weight loss. 3lbs loss over 3 weeks means that I am instead trying to work out what dress to squeeze myself into and really don't have to worry about people's reaction!

Choux · 14/05/2024 21:10

Well my today was unexpected. I am in a chat group with my brother and sister in law who live in the US. Today my brother posted this article on there saying 'no wonder I am feeling so good'.

www.cnn.com/2024/05/13/health/wegovy-trial-analysis?cid=ios_app

This is my family who I am seeing next week and am worried about being floored by my 7.5mg so they know something is going on as I can't eat anything. So I asked and it turns out my brother has been on Zepbound (US name for Mounjaro) since November and has lost 40lbs. So we both independently started using it. Our dad died last year so perhaps that was a factor in both of us deciding to get healthier.

So now I don't have to worry about having little or no appetite for a couple of days after my injection.

The article above is worth a read as there is a section on Eli Lilly research on weight regain after coming off the drugs - and it's not all bad news.

MrsBurtMacklin · 14/05/2024 21:17

Just been catching up on the thread. Nice to see newbies, losses and NSVs. The split dosing is interesting. I have found going up to 5mg difficult, especially the first three days after the jab. This week (3rd week) has been easier than the previous two though, so I hope it will continue to improve. Are there downsides to split dosing? Other than it's not how it was meant to be used. I could be tempted to do this if the side effects persist.

ObsidianTree · 14/05/2024 21:18

Thats great news @Choux. Most of us here haven't been open with everyone about taking it. So it's probably quite likely that a lot are taking it and not talking about it!

Lol. You never know! You might have lost some inches

Today I've been more hungry and craving carbs. Was feeling down thinking 7.5mg isn't working already, but realise it's probably my period which is due in a few days making me want to eat. So decided to try on some size 16 jeans that I haven't worn for a few years in an attempt to cheer myself up and they actually fit! The last time I tried them a few weeks ago, they were no hope, then today they are doing up and dont feel uncomfortable to wear. Minimum muffin top!

The last time I wore them was when I lost a lot of weight on keto. I never got lower size than these jeans so pretty happy I'm back in them already. I bought a size 14 at the time so my next goal will be to try and get down to that size!

I mean he’s not wrong. We live in a world where there are famines. It is grotesque when you think on it.

Scalessayeek · 14/05/2024 22:53

@bblondemoment I inject on Tuesdays and come home on a Wednesday so I'll do one whilst away and then the second one will be a day late. Deciding to continue with it as I don't think I'm in a place I can limit myself too much!

Tedzer · 14/05/2024 23:36

Mounjaro Pen Faulty. I was to take my last 2.5 dose on Sunday but the pen jammed up and wouldn't dispense the dose. Has anyone else had this problem? I called Boots Online and they said I had to take the pen to the store I collected it from and ask them to verify that the pen was faulty and get the pharmacist to call them. I need to take the last 2.5 dose before starting 5mg, but they don't have stock so I have to wait till they can get it.

AgathaMystery · 14/05/2024 23:46

Just withdraw it with a syringe??

Moanranger · 15/05/2024 00:00

LifeisHard73 · 14/05/2024 18:29

Sorry you’ve had such an awful reaction. I have no advice to give but like you I’ve felt mainly ok 2.5mg (I didn’t have an awful day of nausea on Sunday). My appetite is suprised and the food noise has gone. I’ve ordered a 5mg but it’s not been prescribed yet, seriously thinking of changing to 2.5mg. I know it’s not meant to be a therapeutic dose but if it works it works!

Can you work out how many clicks of the pen will deliver 2.5mg and just continue with that once your next dose is due? x

My people!

lurkylurk · 15/05/2024 00:03

@thehousewiththesagegreensofa

I'm a slow loser too! 8 pounds in 7 weeks.

Seems an expensive way to go about it, however I usually give up about the half stone mark and I'm not this time as it's a lot easier to keep going.

Did you prime it? That is, squirt a bit out before injecting. Step 7 on sheet I think. I missed this out once & pen jammed, but then primed it & it worked.

I believe this is still only applicable to the three batches of 2.5mg pens they have completed stability testing on. It does not apply to any other batches or pen strengths.

MrsLeavemealone · 15/05/2024 06:07

Very happy this morning, I have tipped over into the 11st something group. Even though its a miniscule amount from 12st, I couldn't be more delighted 😀

MrsBurtMacklin · 15/05/2024 06:22

Does anyone else stall/gain the week before their period?
Last month I did, and then this month, on the exact same day, I've stalled and actually gained a pound. Weekly weigh in isn't until Fri but pretty sure I won't have a loss this week.
I'm not too bothered about it, but it is annoying!

I've noticed I gain 2 or 3lbs when I ovulate and the same again just before my just before my period. It means my progress is very spiky. I'm also a slow loser, so when I bounce up, it can feel like it's going really slowly, but I know on the whole it's heading in the right direction.

BlackFriYay · 15/05/2024 07:13

Morning all, checking in as promised.

So after a mini stall having not lost much if anything for 2 weeks, I've now dropped 6lbs since last Monday! I'm 11 stone 5 and BMI 29 which makes a total of 2 stone and 3lbs lost since I started MJ on the 19th of March. I'm officially 'overweight' and over the moon 🙂

pinktransit · 15/05/2024 07:13

I have a 1.5lb gain today. Not period related as I'm menopausal. And, just to add insult to injury yesterday was an alcohol free, lots of water, vlc day. Hmmmph, I am miffed.

But onwards and downwards, today is a new day.
(Still miffed though.)

ObsidianTree · 15/05/2024 07:25

Well done for today's losses :)

Great wooshes @BlackFriYay and @MrsLeavemealone

Sorry about the gain @pinktransit. Another one of those unexplained head fucks!

Thebaldprimadonna · 15/05/2024 07:38

Not the best couple of weeks for me as I've ended up where I was on the 1st 🤣

I've now moved to 10mg and I already feel at my 'normal' on MJ if that makes sense.

Off on holiday next Tuesday, so I'll weigh in a day early. I am not going to take a break in my injections as I don't want to go backwards.

I am wearing size 14 jeans today (having been squeezing myself into a baggier style 18 when I started) so that's a positive sign 👍🏻

Pretty disappointing weigh in day here
I've just taken my 4th 5mg today
Start weight 203.7
Current weight 192

Last Wednesday I was 192.2 so a measly 0.2lb loss.

But I am on my period and I've been a bit bunged up so expecting a drop in a few days.
I was 191 on Friday and I've not gone over my calories so I know logically I haven't gained weight its retention and poop but its hard to see.
