Continuing Mounjaro...part 8

Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
https://glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

  • MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
  • The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
  • Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
  • Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
  • Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
  • Boots £219 +
  • Chemist4U £179 +
  • Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

I posted the other day that since taking my first dose of 7.5 last Wednesday I have been ravenous, this is the first time since staring Mourjano that I've experienced any hunger Confused

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 06/05/2024 20:44

@bblondemoment @Thebaldprimadonna well I'm glad I'm not alone but how weird that we are all having similar reactions.

Soukmyfalafel · 06/05/2024 20:49

That's a bit worrying. Moving upto 7.5mg at end of the week. Bought from Med Ex. I was going to inject in thigh, but wondering whether to do stomach again. Where did you all inject?

AgathaMystery · 06/05/2024 21:09

Evening all… NSV for me tonight was I’ve put on a skirt to go out and it’s a beautiful Hobbs size 18 & it is hanging off me.

Another item to go on vinted!

dmott · 06/05/2024 21:09

I was looking back at my order dates.

I ordered the first med express so early to get the amazing £60 off they did.

Because they let me order at 3 week intervals I am not worried about a sudden stop if I hit bmi 25 as I will have a stock I'm sure.

Pharmacy2u 2.5mg 25/3/24
Med ex 5mg 29/3/24
Med ex 5mg 18/4/24
Med ex 7.5mg. 6/ 5/24

ThirdStorm · 06/05/2024 21:11

Has anyone stayed on 2.5 for their second pen but regretted it?

I’m due to re order this week and had planned to remain on 2.5 as it’s working but all I’m reading is everybody moving up to 5!

Vamozz · 06/05/2024 21:15

Can anyone please explain how the supplier would stop you ordering more pens once you reach 25 bmi?
Do you have to submit photos to get a new pen every 4 weeks?

They usually ask for your current weight. So far I haven't been asked for a new photo after ordering 4 pens

So i assume when you get to BMI 25 they will reject your order

How's it going please? Are you losing ok? How many months at 2.5 have you done?

izzy2076 · 06/05/2024 21:26

@dmott good idea to start stockpiling! If I order every 3 weeks, get some bonus doses and maybe set up a burner subscription with another supplier...I'll be able to maintain for a bit.

I am having a dilemma about what to do when I go on holiday in July.

We are leaving on a Friday am, overnight stop and onto final destination on the Saturday.

I had thought I’d be ok to just take my un refrigerated pen with me but my last dose on my previous pen will be the Thursday night before we go.

So it will be a new pen due the week we are away and new pens need to be refrigerated.

not sure whether to risk it un refrigerated but pack with cool packs or change my schedule to take it the Saturday night once we are home.

Pigriver · 06/05/2024 21:43

I would try and take you next dose a day late to try and slowly shift it to the Saturday. Is did this in preparation for my trip. Friday one week, sat the next, then Sunday and took the last one Monday fight when I returned home.

AgathaMystery · 06/05/2024 21:43

Your injection day may well have changed by July!

Thank you so much for sharing this!

I imagine Asda are about to lose a lot of customers from this thread!

I injected my 7.5 in my stomach as I've always done x

Beyondbeliefsometimes · 06/05/2024 21:49

For those saying about loss of appetite suppression, someone posted a really helpful youtube link on the last page and I went and watched his other videos and came across this

It says that food suppression is actually a side effect and is expected to go after a while on it. So maybe this is what is happening? I'm only on my second dose so no expert at all.. Was just a thought I'd had after watching this video.

Madferitchick · 06/05/2024 22:09

Hi,
I've just done my first injection so hoping to join you all here!
I recognise a few names from saxenda/ozempic threads a few years ago...I'm hoping MJ is going to be more successful for me 🤞🏻
I've found reading all the threads really helpful and encouraging, so thank you! 😊

I am staying on. Now week 6. My appetite suppression has actually got better, while side effects, always mild, have greatly diminished. By week 5-6 my daily calorie intake reduced, with no increase in hunger. Since I now never go above 1200 cals, I cannot see the point in increasing the dose, as this should result in an average WL of 1-1.5 cal a week. No food noise is amazing!

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 06/05/2024 22:54

@Everdecreasingcircumferences saggy skin was the thing I was most worried about when I started MJ. I'm in week 10 and I'm not far off a 3st loss. I was away last week for work and could see in the harsh hotel lighting that my skin is starting to look saggy at the tops of my thighs despite me only losing an inch from them. I also now have thread veins all over my calves which I didn't have before.

My stomach is horrendous (crepe skin) but as I have a back injury I can't currently use weights or do much exercise. I've also got my first proper lines on my forehead appearing 😕.

I realised today that I'm the lowest weight I've been since October 2017 which has blown my mind a bit 😄.

Thigh

DownWithThisKindOfThing · 06/05/2024 23:27

Thigh here

planning to do my final 2.5 in my tummy and then back to thigh for my first 5 mg

Concernedforthekids · 06/05/2024 23:50

I read on Asda’s official literature that 7.5mg is an intermediate dose- you’re only supposed to stay on it to get through the side effects (so 4-8 weeks) then move up to the maintenance dose of 10mg. That may be why people are finding it not as effective, but I might be talking rubbish.

The maintenance doses that Asda says you can stay on are: 5mg, 10mg and 15mg (until they turn off the tap when you get to BMI 25!)

ps. I name changed… used to be @WannabeHealthier
