Continuing Mounjaro...part 8

ObsidianTree · 05/05/2024 14:42

Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
https://glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

  • MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
  • The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
  • Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
  • Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
  • Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
  • Boots £219 +
  • Chemist4U £179 +
  • Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Evening All. Hope you don’t mind me joining. Thanks for all the helpful threads.

Monday coming will be my 4th 2.5mg jab. All going well so far. I started with Lloyds Online but have switched to MedExpress. Ordered the 5mg from MedExpress using a discount code and got it delivered today, no signature required.

I do have a question for you…with Lloyds I got about 6 needles with pen. With MedExpress I only got 4 and they are a different type to the Lloyds ones. I’m hoping to obtain some bonus doses and wonder if my Lloyds needle will fit the 5mg pen or do the needles have to change for different pen doses?

Hope that makes sense. I’m not meaning about using the same needle twice.

Thanks for any advice.

Oh my goodness I've just had a mad panic/brain fart 🙈 all this chat about pregnancy put the fear of god into me. I have a mirena coil and just assumed it wouldn't affect it and never gave it a second thought. Merrily shagging away for the last 3 months without a care. Read this thread.....FUCK!!!!! What if I'm pregnant?!
Took me a good minute to realise DH also had a vasectomy 🤣🙈

Some people really are idiots and apparently I'm one!

It's oral contraceptives that are the issue so you were right anyway. Not an issue for us IUD users.

KeepingUndercover · 10/05/2024 21:29

@Mounjarojourney the other needles will be fine. MedExpress seem to give slightly different ones to other suppliers but they all work. You can also buy your own if needed.

Great news @Thebaldprimadonna

Thanks. There is a lot of type two on my dad's side of the family and I really want to avoid it if I possibly can 🙏

NextPrimeMinister · 10/05/2024 21:30

@Thebaldprimadonna

That's a fantastic shift in your health 😀

It's quite remarkable, well done.

God I’m starving, I think I must have too much fat in my belly to have got any effect. Just had a banana

Hi everyone! Been here since thread 1 and checked in occasionally :) I'm now week 8 and on my first 7.5mg dose.

No bad side effects, have been eating little and often with a focus on protein but not counting calories or protein intake.

SW (13th March) - 229lbs

CW - 194lbs
GW - 165lbs

So my total loss is now 35lbs.

This is truly life changing!

Wow @Priority1234 that’s an amazing weight loss in only 8 weeks! Well done you!

izzy2076 · 10/05/2024 22:41

I'm in! Thanks!

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 10/05/2024 22:55

I have got very good intentions this weekend! Tomorrow's supermarket delivery has got lots of green veg in it as I've noticed before that I am more likely to lose weight if I have increased my intake of green veg. It really helps me. I have also bought some sparkling water which I will drink out of a fancy glass.
Fingers crossed for a loss on Monday.

Thebaldprimadonna · 10/05/2024 23:27

spamm · 10/05/2024 21:25

@Thebaldprimadonna - congratulations! That is fantastic news. And it feels so good to do something for your health.

I have been diabetic for 10+ years and I am so excited by the effect on my blood sugar in just my first 3 months. I came down to very close to normal levels in such a short time.

Fantastic news!

I have lots more energy. It's made me realise how much my pre-diabetic sugar levels were impacting me.

spamm · 11/05/2024 03:56

So a couple of NSVs for me today - I need them, because I have not lost any weight this week, after a bigger loss last week.

  • my beautiful navy raincoat from London Fog finally fits me and I wore it to walk the dog.
  • I bought a pair of trousers today in a size 14 (US) and they are loose on me.
  • I am filling a "donate" bag of winter clothes, rather than packing them away for next year - as they look ridiculous on me, and as much as I love them, I do not intend to ever wear them again!

Well done to all the losers this week - so exciting. And to those like me who did not lose - keep it up! Onwards and downwards!

Gruttenberg · 11/05/2024 04:30

Part way through week 7 and couldn't resist jumping on the scales. This is my third week on 5mg and since Tuesday I've dropped another three pounds giving me a total loss of 26lb. Only two more and I'm two stone lighter! Still not having any side effects at all (I was really worried when I started 5mg). I feel like this has fixed something in me that I didn't know was broken. Just thought of a side effect I do have - I can now stay awake when doing really boring spreadsheets - nodding off has stopped!

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 11/05/2024 04:43

Crist on a bike, took second 7.5 on Wednesday afternoon. In the middle of the night I woke with terrible diarrhoea and have had it ever since! Thought it was fading yesterday but no, I'm up again at stupid o'clock suffering so going to try some Imodium in the morning.
Could be mj (never had the slightest bit before now) or it could be working with small germy children? Nervous for next week already as I haven't been able to leave the house! Even missed the aurora falling asleep early.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 11/05/2024 04:44

Excuse spelling, it's very early

MountKilimounjaro · 11/05/2024 05:48

@Thebaldprimadonna that's wonderful news. Congratulations. And that's really what all of this is about, doing all that we can to make ourselves healthier.

@spamm I'll join you in the not lost camp. After a mini flurry of losing it's now been 9 days and absolutely nothing lost despite a perfect scoresheet in eating properly.

I try so hard to be positive and remind myself of how far I've come and the fact it's a marathon and not a sprint etc etc etc but somewhere in my head I'm beating myself up and I worry this won't work for me and I'm destined to be fat forever.

I feel guilty for posting negativity on here. I hope I don't bring anyone down!

Some positives:

  • I've lost a stone. That's huge progress.
  • I've not given up and gone into comfort eating/self loathing mode.
  • My face looks more sculpted again
  • My bra is looser
  • I have more energy

What I'm going to do next:

  • Keep. Fucking. Going.
  • Drink more water
  • Get off my bum and do a workout. Just one, even a small bit of movement will help.
MountKilimounjaro · 11/05/2024 05:53

@NaturalBlondeYeahRight ugh, that sounds rotten.

It's hard to know what's MJ and what's normal illness sometimes. Either way fingers crossed it passes and you start to feel better soon.

Scalessayeek · 11/05/2024 06:01

@NaturalBlondeYeahRight when I've been affected with titrating up it's always from the first injection and seems to get less and less each week.

My first lot of 5mg I was super poorly for 3 days though- worst tummy I'd had in a long time and it involved lots of sprints to the loo!
