Continuing Mounjaro...part 8

ObsidianTree · 05/05/2024 14:42

Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
https://glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

  • MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
  • The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
  • Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
  • Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
  • Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
  • Boots £219 +
  • Chemist4U £179 +
  • Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Congrats you two two stoners @GlueNoGlue @NextPrimeMinister!

Keep going @Thebaldprimadonna you can limbo back under that 12 stone bar this weekend. I just calculated my weight in stones and it's 12 st 6 (174lbs) so I am now focused on the 12 stone bar too. Although I've got the sub 170lb milestone to come first.

Thanks for the encouragement 😁

Another facial dermaplaner here. I did it last night and you can almost guarantee that by the time I go to bed tonight there will be a 4 or 5mm hair poking out under my chin 😤

lurkylurk · 10/05/2024 11:33

@Thebaldprimadonna

Don’t worry about those little ups and downs, the really nice thing about this is that we’re all pretty much guaranteed that it will keep going down, whatever our past experiences may be.

ThirdStorm · 10/05/2024 11:46

Why did you all have to mention the fluff?! I appear to have it on my face, visible when the light catches it.....!! :(

ObsidianTree · 10/05/2024 12:13

I have a Philips lumea that I have used on and off on my face hair. I actually think it's made it worse! Now I seem to have lots of thick black hair on my face and chin! I need to laser more but can't be arsed half the time!

Amazing

Well done @r4ch. Can't seem to tag you!

That's great work!

Did you avoid drinking?

Wow this thread moves fast, can't get over some of the amazing results, well don't everyone.

I injected for the first on Wednesday evening. Didn't feel any side effects except a metallic taste in my mouth and a bit of a sore leg.

Yesterday was so strange, I could have taken or left eating but at around 1pm I felt a bit lightheaded so had half an egg sandwich and I was full
For dinner I had spaghetti Bolognese but half my usual portion was enough, and I had an apple and some beetroot last night as a snack. 2l of water and an electrolyte drink too.

Headache this morning on day 2, tummy is fine, was able to go to the toilet ok but I do have a bit of bloat.

I do feel like something in my head has shifted though, I'm so determined that this is going to work. I want to wear the lovely summer dresses!!

@Carelesswispalover half a day behind you and just had similar start to the feelings. After a light chicken salad lunch I found I was getting near the end and felt sick like I’d had a huge roast!

Ive finally caught up on the whole thread and astounded at all of your results and the positive support in this group. I’m new on the journey and it’s so inspiring seeing how well you’re all doing!

thanks for the thread and nurturing the group @ObsidianTree!

Morning all! Eight weeks in and 2st 1 pound down - I can't believe how different I feel already (I have a lot more to go, but I am not where I was at the start and that feels great!)
I'm staying on 5mg for another month because I've had a really good reaction so far with minimal side effects.
I did have a weekend away where there were limited food choices and I was interested to see how quickly bread seemed to bloat me, I've not had much carbs until this weekend and despite excessive walking and still good suppression, I put on a pound! (Luckily lost it by weigh day)

Hi @zaffa that’s a big weight loss in only 8 weeks, well done.
Interesting what you say about bread, I had some pasta the other day and I noticed how bloated I looked the next day. It’s something that I never noticed before, maybe I never put attention to it.
It’s normal to put on some weight while on holidays and it’s great you lost it quickly.

Why did you all have to mention the fluff?! I appear to have it on my face, visible when the light catches it.....!! :(

I just looked in the car mirror (lunch break chill time) and I have it all over my cheeks and chin as well, so I assume it's meant to be there. I refuse to give myself something else to obsess about, so I shall ignore it. I haven't yet developed any dark chin hairs, but I do have to pluck my nostrils as for some reason I get very dark protruding hairs there.

Weighed on the work machine today (fancy standing BMI and BP machine) and it was very kind to me. It takes off 2.5lbs compared to my home scales, despite me being dressed when I use it!

LifeisHard73 · 10/05/2024 14:13

I’m so behind on this thread but I’ll try and catch up over the weekend! I hope everyone has had a good week, doesn’t the weather make life easier & happier.

I’ve just been to Costco & they had so many free samples which I normally love, but today I felt a bit sick at the thought and tomorrow is my injection day so this week has gone well!

My first goal is still 9.13 by the end of the month (before if I can). Will weigh on Sunday!

LifeisHard73 · 10/05/2024 14:14

What do you drink on a sunny evening that’s not G&T, Rose or pimms 😂… Non alcoholic but not calorie loaded suggestions most appreciated. Currently just having the odd Diet Coke! And shed loads of water, of course!

Sparkling water with cucumber/lemon/lime/something else in. Tonic water without the gin. Ginger ale with lime in. A nice cordial of some sort.

Stickthatupyourdojo · 10/05/2024 14:37

This sounds sooooo dull but my work did some ice cold jugs of water with different fruits and stuff in them recently. I had a glass with ice cubes that had lots of fresh mint in the jug just to show willing and it was actually soooooo nice!

pinktransit · 10/05/2024 14:54

Does anyone else have a reaction at their injection site?
I was fine on 2.5, but the 5mg jab is leaving me with a red, itchy lump that comes up about 12-14 hours after injecting.
I rubbed and scratched it last week, and it left a nasty bruise too. Today I'm using an antihistamine and some hydrocortisone cream, but wow it's itchy.

I googled, and it does seem as though it's not uncommon, but it hasn't been mentioned here that I've seen.

lurkylurk · 10/05/2024 14:55

@Stickthatupyourdojo

Place I used to work did those too, lemon and rosemary was nice too.

lurkylurk · 10/05/2024 14:58

@pinktransit

Had a lot of itchiness and but of redness at injection site after first one but not since.

Have had bruises a couple of times until I realised it’s the needles that MedExpress give you that we’re doing it, the ones from Voy were fine, I bought some myself to use rather than the MedExpress ones and they’re fine.

R4ch402 · 10/05/2024 15:28

Took my first 7.5mg last night, woke up a tad hungry, ate a peparami stick and then had a chicken salad for lunch, only managed half a portion but now feeling stuffed.

fucknuggetsandchips · 10/05/2024 15:45

Ok so very random. Just popped to shop with small DC to get them ice cream on way home from school. I got a packet of fridge raiders so I had some thing - I’ve opened and eaten 1/2 and I simply don’t want any more. This is unheard of for me. I’m an absolute scoffer most of the time. Is this is working on day 5!

Never heard of CBD drinks, but I want to try one now. Might pop into H&B. Useful for when I have PMT 😀
