Continuing Mounjaro...part 8

1000 replies

ObsidianTree · 05/05/2024 14:42

Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
https://glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

  • MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
  • The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
  • Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
  • Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
  • Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
  • Boots £219 +
  • Chemist4U £179 +
  • Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Try STARTNOW

That has worked a few times for people across the months. If not, it doesn't look like there are many codes about.

Morning. I think I've missed about 10 pages! You chatty bunch.

Week 6 (? I think) weigh in today. Lost 2.8lbs this week!

SW: 263.6
CW: 245.6

Total lost: 18 lbs.

Am pretty chuffed with that!

Dose 3 of 5mg today. Scared! Last week side effects were rotten. Fingers crossed my body is getting used to it.

Everdecreasingcircumferences · 10/05/2024 06:50

Morning all

I'm in a stall. 0.5kg up from last Friday weigh-in. This is week 12, 2 jabs in to my second 5mg pen. Very annoying, am still feeling strong appetite suppression on days 2,3 and 4, and definitely haven't gone over my calories on any day.
My next pen will be a 7.5.
I know slow and steady wins the race and I don't want to lose too quickly, but I had rather hoped to have gone below 91kg at this point.
Am sticking with it, going to turn to eating to cheer me up. This is the part where I really struggle, I've been down to 92kg before but just couldn't maintain as was VERY VERY HUNGRY all the time. Hopefully MJ will help me stay focused.

My weighloss after 11 weeks remains 6kg. This is definitely on the lower end compared to many, I started at 98kg with a BMI of 35 and getting out of the obese category still feels like a pipedream.

Have a happy Friday all!

The morphine story is horrendous and I’m also so sorry to the poster who now has no medication after Boots gave her the wrong pen.

Injection day tomorrow.

I’m currently looking at boob jobs and skin removal. I felt more confident naked when I was bigger. My boobs have shrunk so much and are loose flaps. I’ve lost all upper volume.

Sure it will adjust a bit. Just a bit weird at present.

On the plus side I had my my Botox redone and it’s made a fantastic difference to my face with weight loss. What is they say about face or bum? Mine seems to be face improving and boobs making friends with my belly button.

Genuinely could have written this myself. I'm also already gathering an apron- god knows what it will look like once I've lost another 4+ stone.

Hubby is dead against surgery too but he is positive when I've spoken to him. I don't think I'd do anything until is maintained for a year either. I keep looking at bra slings though- they're an internal bra and they look amazing!!!!

CONSULT-BLOOM still worked for me in the early hours for 15% off. Let's hope they come out with some more soon, my bank account is starting to sweat!

Going to bring my injection day one day forward for my second dose and do it on Saturday. Where’s best to inject. First one I did in my thigh and had very little hunger suppression.

also I got my first pen from my London pharmacy online. It’s expensive in comparison from what I’ve seen on here - so is it easy to swap providers?

I've just gotten approval to change over to medexpress. It's £50 cheaper the juniper where I got my first pen and I didn't even use some of the discount codes on here.

They did ask for new photos as my original ones weren't good. I've already lost the best part of a stone so was careful to take quite unflattering ones 😅. They needed photos of the box too. I think it took 4 working days even with the back and forth.

Check with your current provider when the cut off is though so you don't automatically order the next pen and get charged. Now my new provider has dispatched I will be cancelling juniper today.

I am getting pretty wrinkly too. My neck is starting to look like a turkey and my boobs are looking pretty prune like!

I something think about surgery, but will wait and see what my skin looks like when I lose the rest of the weight.

It's my neck that look the worst. Really hope that it doesn't get worse! Didn't realize I had a fat neck! Lol

I did have a good look the other day, trying all the codes I could find. Only CONSULT-BLOOM worked. I hope they release more soon.

I can't physically do very much, so have lots of spare time on my hands. So in between diving down MJ research rabbit holes, I'm hunting for codes multiple times daily at the moment. You'll all be the first to know If I find anything. 🙏

I went through the menopause when I was 39 and started HRT a few years ago (MN members were SO helpful it was incredible really). Anyway, I quickly found the right HRT for me (Evorel 75 patches) & feel pretty great on them. I feel like MJ really ramps it up a notch.

My hair and skin look pretty good. I’m losing weight, I feel great. I’m even feeling mostly sane after a truly hideous couple of weeks with work. I have noticed weird things. When I am very stressed, I pick my cuticles. I’ve realised that’s stopped. I’m obviously not stress eating either. I guess I just feel more free?

no NSV today… saw two old friends that I’ve not seen in forever & neither noticed anything different about me. C’est La vie!

Oh hi fellow cuticle picker! My fingers get so sore when I’m stressed as I simply can’t help attacking the skin around my nails. Oddly my brother is exactly the same! If mj stops this, I’ll be thrilled. Only just taken my first dose so very early days for me but I couldn’t finish my dinner last night.

Wonkypictureframe · 10/05/2024 07:59

I’ve got a browser plug in that shows codes when you visit a retailer and none of the ones it offers for Mexexpress worked the other day. CONSULT-BLOOM did though. I tried leaving my order in the basket to see if they sent me something but no. And they made me choose express delivery so I wonder if I came up against some sort of repeat deadline?

My naked body is hideous but much better in clothes. I was trying on things last night to see if I could find something for a posh occasion tomorrow and a dress I’ve always liked but has been snug suddenly looks totally different. It was amazing.

HUGE sympathies to the those struggling right now. Those stalls and slow weight losses are miserable and it’s really tempting to feel it’s all hopeless. Keep On Buggering On. I’ve had them on this journey and I’m absolutely sure will have them again and I just kept telling myself the old marathon/sprint thing. And that weight slowly lost feels more permanently lost to me. But it’s a mental challenge.

Everdecreasingcircumferences · 10/05/2024 08:11

Just ordered 7.5mg pen with CONSULT-BLOOM. I can do this, the stall is a temporary blip.
Just had a beetroot latte (from Purition, am really liking their milled shake/porridge pouches too), and a banana blueberry mango smoothie protein shake for my breakfast on the train. All very tasty, now feeling full.
I've a clear diet whey protein drink (mixed with water) in my bag to sip at work later and help keep my fluid intake up.
I've accepted adding these rather processed protein supplements/meal replacements is what I need to do long term to help me lose and eventually maintain in a healthy way. My diet is largely low processed or whole foods other than protein UPFs so there's room for them, they help my stay full for longer and are really helpful when I need something shelfstable to grab and go. When I'm working from home I can usually manage without the supplements and get my protein from eggs/meat/fish/dairy but when work is manic I need something quick.
We get loads of eggs from my MIL's chickens so have also started making protein pancakes to freeze and then just toast as needed (oatflour, eggs, protein powder, skimmed milk, sometimes mashed banana or berries).
Work stress is definitely kicking in and affecting my sleep, this is where MJ really steps up as whilst I'm pretty tired I've still not been reaching for high calorie/sugar foods to give me energy (I reckon reaching for sugary foods for energy due to poor sleep as well as seeking dopamine from sugar due to ADHD are the behaviours that led to my obesity in the first place).

NextPrimeMinister · 10/05/2024 08:14

Weigh in day for me too, 3lbs off which is surprising as I was whining on the thread earlier in the week that I was hungry and snacking much more.

SW 13.12
CW 11.11
Total loss 2 stone 1lb in 11 weeks.

I've also hit the '11's which is a number I've not seen in 5 years. 11 7 was my lowest weight in the last 15 years, so this is feeling very remarkable and dreamlike!

@GlueNoGlue congrats on joining the 2 stone club with me!

@Thebaldprimadonna I did it! I've joined the 11s. How have you done this week?

GlueNoGlue · 10/05/2024 08:22

@NextPrimeMinister congratulations to you too! I’ve lost 2stone 1lb in total too! I’ve been ill for a few weeks with side effects so feeling like it’s worth it for the loss!

Soukmyfalafel · 10/05/2024 08:23

@FlappyFish I'm having the same. I have been an eternal breastfeeder over the years. Neither of my kids were keen to wean and were not good sleepers, so it helped them sleep again (youngest's sleep is horrendous, but that's because of his autism). I was really pleased when I weaned them that my boobs stayed fairly buoyant (well given the bfing) but I realised it's because I put on so much weight! I had a big butt too which is starting to decrease and I have lost weight in my face. I have lost weight from my sides, but I'm still very doughy in the abdomen. It's very stubborn. I guess this is a non scale disappointment! I do look better and my clothes are fitting better - shorts from last year are sitting very low on hips now, but it would be nice if the belly fat went first wouldn't it?

I still have about 10lbs left to go to get at a decent weight I'm happy with and my period has crept up on me, so I'm a lb back up, but I'm not too concerned. If anything I'm worried my BMI is too low to get my next box. Does anyone know when 10mg is out? I'm not sure whether I will need to go up as I have a month's worth of 7.5 yet and ive lost about 5-6lbs this last month. I was going to get another box to ease down, but people are saying they have had minimal effect on 7.5, so I'm undecided.

Congrats on everyone's losses and well done to those sticking at it despite not seeing what they want on the scales. I like hearing about the NSV's more than anything as they are personal and nice to hear.

Choux · 10/05/2024 08:26

Congrats you two two stoners @GlueNoGlue @NextPrimeMinister!

Keep going @Thebaldprimadonna you can limbo back under that 12 stone bar this weekend. I just calculated my weight in stones and it's 12 st 6 (174lbs) so I am now focused on the 12 stone bar too. Although I've got the sub 170lb milestone to come first.
