Continuing Mounjaro...part 8

ObsidianTree · 05/05/2024 14:42

Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
https://glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

  • MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
  • The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
  • Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
  • Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
  • Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
  • Boots £219 +
  • Chemist4U £179 +
  • Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

I’m so glad the sun is out. Everything feels better with warmth in the air.

I have never to add, I just wanted to say hello and check in with you. 😊

It really does.

I'm trying to figure out what to do as most of my summer clothes from last year are a bit too small but I don't want to buy any as I'm hoping to fit back into them shortly (and then the next ones down)! Think I'll just have to sweat it out in jeans and tops, maybe it'll help! 😅

lurkylurk · 08/05/2024 23:04

@AgathaMystery

I read the bit about crab for tea first, then misread the first bit thinking it said you'd had a weirdly crab heavy day!😂

Concernedforthekids · 08/05/2024 22:39

Strongly agree with you on this. It’s unrealistic and unhealthy to eliminate hunger cues. This is a tool to support us to eat fewer calories- not to stifle appetite and stop us from eating and enjoying food.

I think it's good for teaching intuitive eating too (eat when hungry, stop when satisfied, not stuffed).

Before, I could bypass the satisfied point and would have more if it was something delicious but I can't do that with Mounjaro as I know I'll feel ill shortly thereafter if I do so have to stop eating when I feel satisfied rather than pretty full.

It would be a weird but rich food day, no? I am lucky to live quite near the sea so if I wanted a crab heavy day, it’s there for the taking 😂

Me too. I have an incredible recipe for a chilli crab linguine but I can’t face the linguine!

the way that jacket potato just LOOKED at me today as well. Yuck. I mean, I turned down cheese on it! Who even am I?

lurkylurk · 08/05/2024 23:46

@AgathaMystery

I love seafood pasta too, I have some prawn and chilli ravioli in the fridge that I usually cook up with some king prawns and squid, lots of garlic, parsley and olive oil and some quartered cherry tomatoes and it's just been sat there for ages (keeps for some time) as I just don't fancy it so much. I have a frozen lobster I was going to do with it instead of the prawns but still not done it.

I love cheese, especially vintage cheddar, stilton or parmesan but can only have a little bit now, a small slice or two.

@BlackFriYay - I have lost 12.6 pounds on the 7.5 dose, out of a total of just over 25 pounds lost. On 7.5, my average weekly loss has gone up to about 1.7 pounds a week, On the 2.5 and 5.0, it was about 1.5 pounds. I actually requested to stay on the 7.5 for a second month, as it seems to be suiting me (I am in the US). I do get a little hungry towards the end of my week, but so far it is manageable.

I have two more 7.5 injections before my next prescription, and I don't know if I will move up to 10, or try and stay on 7.5. The rest of this month is crazy. I have a ton of work travel - international and in the US, which will be challenging because I have to make compromises and sometimes choose the lesser of two evils. However, I have also learnt that I can miss a meal and survive, which was practically unthinkable before Mounjaro.

spamm · 09/05/2024 03:21

But the way, I do know that my numbers do not add up. But that's because I had to do a couple of doses of 5.0 between my two 7.5 months, due to the issues with supply here in the US.

Thank you that's really encouraging. I'm glad 7.5 is working well for you.

Weekly weigh on, and another 2.2lbs off.
Mostly happy with that, although I would love to be one of those that loses lots of lbs!
SW 12.6.6
CW 11.7.6
GW 10.0.0

13 lbs off in 6 weeks so an average of just over 2lbs a week.

Plodding along steadily.

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 09/05/2024 07:37

I've had a whoosh! Having stayed the same on official weigh in day on Monday, I'd lost 1lb by yesterday and two more today. The scales did wobble slightly lower too. This means I'm back at the weight I was before we went on holiday at Easter. Usually, holiday weight disappears over the first couple of weeks back but these pounds have been clinging to me.
I am very much in traditional dieting mindset this week. Lots of water, green veg, fish & chicken. And exercise. I'm not sure if it's easier to sustain this on MJ or not to be honest. I was expecting to be less interested in food and be less hungry. But I am only on week 3 of 2.5 and a loss is still a loss!

Same same same.

it’s so weird.

Anyway, my weight starts with 81 again. Phew. Onwards and downwards.

@PrimalLass
If you don’t mind me asking, have you moved from Wegovy to Mounjaro? I remember seeing your username
on the Wegovy thread when I was looking into the whole subject. If so, how are
you finding the switch?

No I'm just nosying in all of the current threads!

Abigailandthefoxes · 09/05/2024 08:32

first dose injected this morning and because it was so easy I’m worried I’ve done it wrong.

Starting weight: 13 stone 10
goal weight: ideally 8 and half stone

Waspwine · 09/05/2024 08:32

Good morning everyone. Quick question,
I injected first thing last Friday as I was unable to do so Thursday as the package had yet to arrive.

I would like to change the day to Thursday so effects peak during the weekend (when I’m usually prone to mindless eating!) and don’t impact my work. So that would mean I would inject my second 2.5mg dose this morning instead of tomorrow morning.

The advice leaflet says this can be done ie change of injection day and explain requirements etc but I wanted to ask if any one has done this.

Thanks in advance.

KeepingUndercover · 09/05/2024 08:33

@Waspwine I've injected both a day early and a day late with no problems.

guestusername · 09/05/2024 08:39

@Waspwine its fine to change your day - I started on a Friday morning, moved it to Thursday evening after week 2 and this week took on Wednesday instead of Thursday.

Waspwine · 09/05/2024 08:45

Thank you @KeepingUndercover and @guestusername ill get on with it today then :)

Vamozz · 09/05/2024 09:05

I have a question about changing days too!
I took my first 2.5 last Thursday evening and still have a very suppressed appetite. Down about 8lbs in a week.
Would you recommend holding off the next injection while my appetite is still so suppressed? Or best to stick to the plan?

RunningAndSinging · 09/05/2024 09:11

Personal opinion here but I think I would stick to weekly but perhaps lower the dose by counting clicks. Your body may well adjust anyway over the first few weeks. Have the side effects been bad?

BigBessie · 09/05/2024 09:12

This happened to me on the first and second week. I found it settled down by week 3

Well done on the loss btw !

Cerialkiller · 09/05/2024 09:12

@Waspwine i've just done exactly that, my first injection was on a friday and i've just done my third this morning. I'm trying to move it back to Wednesday so that when I start moving up doses any bad side effects will happen in the week but hopfully the good effects will still be effective over the weekends. I have some weekend events coming up that I don't want to be feeling sick for but would appreciate the reduced appetite.
