Continuing Mounjaro...part 8

ObsidianTree · 05/05/2024 14:42

Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
https://glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

  • MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
  • The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
  • Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
  • Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
  • Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
  • Boots £219 +
  • Chemist4U £179 +
  • Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@LilyDxoxo you look fab - great figure!

@ObsidianTree

Guess I'll be switching to someone else before I get near BMI 25! (Assuming I get there 😂, I'm a slow loser!)

I'm not an ethnic minority, so will have to investigate which ones will allow you to go a bit lower. Unfortunately that lady on the other thread about moving on from Wegovy hasn't answered, hopefully she will, although she may not if there were fibs involved!

I'd like to get back to BMI 22, which was what I was for my whole adult life (between 21.5 and 22.5), up until 2020. It also allows a bit of room for rebound weight.

guestusername · 07/05/2024 15:04

My weight this morning started with a 13 instead of 14 😀

I never want to see 14 on the scales again, ever! Next target is 13.12 which will give me a stone off since I started MJ. Hoping to see that by the end of the week 🤞

I suppose creating a bit of a stock pile might be the answer. As we have to technically order every 4 weeks anyway. So after using the 5th doses, we maybe all end up with a bit of extra stock!

I don't think she will reply. Must have done it dodgily! Lol

I count as ethnic! So I'm allowed to get to 23.5! Will be happy with that! If I can ever get that low!

@ObsidianTree
Stockpiling may indeed be the answer! Because I stretched the 2.5mg over 6 weeks and ordered my 5mg slightly early, I haven't even started the 5mg and have ordered another as it was month since ordered the first one. I figured that if it's wearing off by the time I get to the second pen of 5mg I could combine the 3rd and 4th doses of the 5mg with half the bonus dose each to move up to 7.5mg. I will eventually end up with a stockpile though.

NSV today - my leggings are too big - I’ve never had to use the drawstring inside them but today I did. Feels weird.

Scale victory - I don’t weigh in stones (kg instead) but my weight now just starts with a 12 instead of a 13 or 14!

Moanranger · 07/05/2024 15:40

AgathaMystery · 07/05/2024 13:30

Can I ask a random question… now, I know I’m going to sound bonkers but we are going on holiday in 2 weeks… and I weigh daily. It helps me stay accountable and takes the pressure off for me of having one particular day (I used to self sabotage after a weekly loss on weigh day).

Anyway, would it be crazy to take my scales with me? I’ve no luggage restrictions and have plenty of space. It would otherwise be 10 days without weighing and I don’t want to have to go to the gym each day to weigh on other scales, if that makes sense?

I have done this, and I don’t think I am crazy😉

Madferitchick · 07/05/2024 15:56

@fucknuggetsandchips my initial goal is 2 stone to get back to my pre-pandemic weight. I need to lose 4 stone total to get to a normal BMI...but I've never been there before so is going to very much depend how the journey to losing the first two stone goes!

fucknuggetsandchips · 07/05/2024 16:00

@Madferitchick we are in the same boat then! Just ate two boiled eggs with a smear of mayo on them and I wouldn’t want to eat another. Maybe it is working. Im
a binge eater. That’s my issue.

Hi Everyone!
Just wanted to share my little progress picture, I hadn't noticed any difference in myself until I compared the photos, first one was 24th March when ordering first pen and 2nd one was this morning! I had a baby 8 months ago and piled on the weight afterwards so I'm happy to finally see some progress. I love mounjaro, had barely any side effects apart from a little constipation 🙄
There's been some great losses on here which is very inspiring and love reading the threads every night when baby is asleep 😁
(Wanted to cover my face but I can see the change there the most)

Thanks for sharing. You look wonderful!

dmott · 07/05/2024 16:08

Todays bullshit.
Home alone and ate 4 fucking little protein pudding pots.
Tomorrow is both weigh day and injection day

What a coincidence!
Also a binge eater and I just ate some chicken breast...could still happily eat more or a load of crap so definitely having to rely on willpower for now!

Carelesswispalover · 07/05/2024 16:23

Joining this thread too, first dose of mounjaro is arriving tomorrow and I'm swinging between excitement to get cracking, and absolutely terrified!
I'm 16stone, 5ft 10 with a BMI of just over 32. Ideally want to get down to 12 stone as anymore than that and I look ill, I'd love to see my cheekbones again!!

I have anxiety about having diarrhea, is this something most people experience or an unlucky few. I can deal with constipation as it's been a part of my life since the kids were born, I just have issues with having diarrhea at work 💩

guestusername · 07/05/2024 17:02

I’ve just used CONSULT-BLOOM on med express for £22.50 off

Investinmyself · 07/05/2024 17:06

@Carelesswispalover
Most seem to have constipation not diarrhoea.
Advice is to avoid greasy, very spicy and I’d also say alcohol until you see how you are faring.

WoolyMammoth55 · 07/05/2024 17:24

@Carelesswispalover I'm only on week 1 and have been avoiding all the 'warned about' foods, but for what it's worth am much more on the constipated end of the spectrum vs diarrhoea. So hopefully it's not a super common thing.

lurkylurk · 07/05/2024 17:50

@AgathaMystery

Great NSV, and the starting with 12, looking forward to that for myself.

If you want to take your scales, then take them!

It can be quite subtle in how it works. Sometimes I think it's wearing off and then realise I've left half my dinner as I was full!

Because you feel full after eating you can feel like you've eaten lots when you actually haven't at all.

I used it too, tried a bunch of others I found, seems to be the only one working this month.

lurkylurk · 07/05/2024 17:55

@Carelesswispalover

An unlucky few, usually constipation! I have had diarrhoea a couple of times but I am prone to it anyway and it was never so urgent as to be a real issue.

Buffypaws · 07/05/2024 17:59

@ObsidianTree - in answer to your questions on the last thread re. Sri Lanka. Yes I am on holiday - eating and drinking is fine and I am definitely able to eat the spicy food.

but tbh I don’t have any issues. All I get is the grinding and a slightly reduced appetite.

anyway the pen appears to be working, I had sod all food today. Tbh curry thrice daily is … wearing.
