Continuing Mounjaro...part 5

1000 replies

ObsidianTree · 11/04/2024 22:11

Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.14201.pdf

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. Ask for suggestions of sites /types to buy.

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

  • MedExpress - £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
  • Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
  • The Family Chemist -£149
  • Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
  • Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. Or starter pack with 2.5mg and 5mg pen £319
  • Asda £184
  • Boots £219
  • Chemist4U £179
  • Pharmacy2u
  • Superdrug
There other other sellers, we don't have them all listed

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

If anyone is looking for protein options that are really delicious, I adore Longley Farm cottage cheese (the full fat one, has to be that). It's lovely and dense and cheesy, and 13g protein in half a tub. Feels more decadent than it is! I can only consistently find it at Morrisons of the main supermarkets.

I like that one too, love the chive one on crackers or Ryvita, Asda have the full fat of all varieties (Morrisons only has the full fat plain, only has fat free Chive one)

Investinmyself · 18/04/2024 13:46

I love the Longley farm too. It’s nice with some eggs and veg/ham as a Crustless quiche can eat warm or cold.
Very well done @spamm.
I’m not moving down my first week on 5mg. Bern 13 stone 5 for almost a week. Some appetite suppressant but not as strong. I’m eating around 1100/1200 a day will try and hit 1200 and see plus drink more water.

MelissaLouRocks · 18/04/2024 13:53

Walk done on the losses everyone, and welcome to all the new posters! 😊

I may not be around as much for a couple of days as in hospital (not Mounjaro related), and reception really crap here.

R4ch402 · 18/04/2024 14:50

Wow well done on all your losses guys. I'm feeling a tad jealous as I'm on my 3rd week of 5mg and have only lost 6lbs since starting, despite drinking 3l of water a day, calorie tracking and sticking below 1300 cals a day, following a low carb high protein diet and exercise. I have lost a lot more doing low carb/keto in the past but I'm trusting the journey and keen to start 7.5mg. I knew I wasn't a super responder as my side effects have been minimal. I haven't even had the dreaded sulfur burps.

On the positive: I have a lot more energy, I'm more mindful of what I'm eating/drinking, eating less and not craving bad stuff or snacks at all.

I'm just trusting the process as I have over 8 stone to lose to get to my goal.

I should have weighed in this morning by my scale batteries died so I’ll do it tomorrow morning. I’ve had a bit of movement today 💩 so that will help - I am so hoping to see the next stone bracket!

Been out for lunch with a friend and had the most delicious salad. It was full of good stuff, was really tasty and filling and I felt satisfied after. Then I ate three chocolate biscuits for no good reason at all and felt a bit sick. Lesson learnt.

Just popped to Lidl for baby DD’s nappies and bought some high protein yoghurt for my overnight oats and some chicken breast and seasoning for tonight’s dinner - peri peri chicken wrap. There will be chips for DH and DD but I probably won’t have any - just not bothered any more.

Couch to 5k week 2 run 2 planned for tonight if I can get the kids to bed early enough.

I agree. It’s worrying when people ask super basic questions because I think god you are going into this blind and it’s a massive massive life changing decision. I mean, it is for me anyway.

my turn to ask for advice now. 2.5 wasn’t quite enough by week 5 for me, so I did 5mg. That’s been way too much. I’d like to do 4mg. My headache is now 6 days old and unbearable.

By my reckoning for 4mg need 0.48ml, which I’m happy and confident to do. Does that sound reasonable?

I'm planning to do 3.75mg as a transition, which would be 45 clicks of a 5mg pen or 0.45ml. I'm having some nausea still on week 5 of 2.5mg, but not quite as effective as it was so I want to go up, but not double.

I ordered my 3rd pen today £124 from med express with code DOSE20.

It was much easier re ordering than first time as I just had to confirm about 3/4 things instead of the whole original form.

I hope to stay around a pen ahead at all times to ensure I can afford things (if I managed to extract the extra in pens I'm hoping to use each for 5 weeks so it works out I will have paid £23.70 per week)

Cheeseismyfavourite · 18/04/2024 17:45

Hi everyone just wondering how long it took for effects on 2.5 I’m 24hours since my first shot and I don’t feel a thing? Still have lots of food noise and an appetite.
I’m aware that for some it’s just a starter dose just trying to work out if I am one of those people?

BlackFriYay · 18/04/2024 17:45

Cor, I'm not feeling too great today. 4 days post bonus dose (bridge between 2.5 and 5mg so I extracted about 3.5mg ish). I was absolutely exhausted yesterday and today I feel a bit spaced out, weak and ive got stomach troubles now (opposite to my usual constipation).

Wondering whether I want to proceed to the 5 in my fridge or order another 2.5 because this isn't very nice. I was doing wonderfully on 2.5 and had no problems at all.

If you are anything like me I could easily save £23 a week if i ate less so I guess it’s pretty much free? Mounjaro maths

You can't be sure it's Mj related though, maybe don't make any decisions just yet.

So none of the codes are working including the SORRY15 they sent me.

Just tried the DOSE20 code and got the message in pic , saying I need to be an existing customer. I am an existing customer!

Anybody else having probs?

Try FINAL20-BLOOM for £30 off. I used it yesterday with no problems. 5mg cost me £124 including delivery.

Speaking of which, I ordered yesterday (existing customer) and it’s arriving tomorrow so another speedy turnaround for me.

Doesn't the current thread title 'continuing Mounjaro' kind of cover that? There's a newbies thread now, so I'd just carry on with these if it were up to me.
Some of us are into week 5 but may be staying on 2.5mg for a bit longer, or not going all the way up to 5mg yet.

Wonkypictureframe · 18/04/2024 18:52

I think it’s worth noting for new people that our experiences really have varied. Quite a few of us didn’t have dramatic losses on 2.5mg so please don’t feel bad if that’s not happening to you. Definitely measure yourselves too as it seems really common for inches to go before pounds!

I’m week six, lots of appetite suppression, healthy eating, and I’ve only lost 10lbs. I’m quite happy with that in myself but it’s easy to read about bigger losses and feel a bit discouraged. It’s also possible I guess that it’s inevitable to plateau for a bit after initial large losses.
