Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.14201.pdf

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. Ask for suggestions of sites /types to buy.

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

  • MedExpress - £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
  • Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
  • The Family Chemist -£149
  • Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
  • Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. Or starter pack with 2.5mg and 5mg pen £319
  • Asda £184
  • Boots £219
  • Chemist4U £179
  • Pharmacy2u
  • Superdrug
There other other sellers, we don't have them all listed

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@Cantonet I'm two weeks into 2.5 and it feels like it's having no effect on me either. I maybe eat a bit less for some meals but that's about it and still major sugar cravings. It's good to hear 5mg has had an effect for you, fingers crossed that will happen with me too.

I also felt no change on 2.5mg, I debate whether I have had much of a reaction to 5mg but think that I am more mindful of eating and am focusing much more on getting protein whilst avoiding carbs as much as possible. I've got another 5mg pen coming, due to the shortage of 7.5mg amd will then move up to 7.5mg which I hope will have more of an effect

NC543210 · 14/04/2024 20:57

I've just done my 4th jab.
I can't usually see where I injected
However this time it almost looks like a sting

Has anyone has this before?

Continuing Mounjaro...part 5
NC543210 · 14/04/2024 21:01

Also I've stayed the same this week.
I'm happy with that as I lost 14lb in the first 2 weeks which while it gave me a boost and the motivation, it was a little too fast.
I've not been eating any different but potentially haven't had as much water.
Also period finished earlier in the week.

21 days in. 14lb down. Another 50 to go.

NCfor24 · 14/04/2024 21:13

JJR26 · 14/04/2024 15:08

Random one... has anyone's periods changed since taking mounjaro?

Yep. I came on 6 days late with no warning...no pain whatsoever whereas usually the cramps come on first and I get my period within 30 mins. It's usually very reliable!
On day 5 now and still going. I usually have heavy days 2 and 3 and am done by now but seems to be longer and lighter, i.e. no overnight issues which usually wake me needing to change.
So we shall see what happens!

I'm pretty sure some women reported their periods coming early though, and was kind of expecting that to be honest!

AgathaMystery · 14/04/2024 22:08

I actually felt hungry today. Managed 5 bites of dinner (fish) and no more. This is so weird. I’m not loosing any weight - haven’t done for 4 days now, and my thirst is raging.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 15/04/2024 00:20

@Femeia I'm also hoping 7.5mg will have more of an effect. I'm still losing at a steady rate but could eat all day without feeling full. My portion sizes are creeping up and I'm starting to snack again.

@MeAndMounjaro haha, no worries 😄

FutureFeelsBleak · 15/04/2024 05:55

This may be more of a consequence of increasing the amount of water I've been drinking, but I have been needing to wee frequently throughout the night. Hopefully my body will adjust soon.

@ObsidianTree I just thought I'd make you aware, someone over on FB page called Glory Banks trying to flog 7.5's.

Heavier this morning 198.9 instead of yesterday's 197.5 but period is due Wednesday and pooping has slowed so I need to stay mindful of that.
I took my fourth 2.5mg dose yesterday (slowly bringing it forward as I want it to be on a Friday not Wednesday when I originally started)

Here's a really good article explaining water weight, why we fluctuate one day to the next, and why drinking enough water is so important.

The Skinny on Water Weight and Bloat

Pigriver · 15/04/2024 08:07

After 5 doses of 2.5mg and one of 5mg with no side effects I feel after the second dose my arse is being kicked. I actually feel like I did when pregnant - weak, dizzy on standing and nauseous all the time. No real appetite to eat which is probably the one thing that would make me feel better!
Back to work today. 26 3 year olds will let me take it easy, right?! 🙈

KeepingUndercover · 15/04/2024 08:09

Monday weigh in. First week of the 5mg pen and another kilo lost. Very pleased with that as the Easter holidays with kids around and days out is tricky.

SW: 120kg
CW: 112.3kg

Within site of my first goal of 10kg off. I'm going 10kg at a time as there's a lot to go down!

KeepingUndercover · 15/04/2024 08:14

Oh no @Pigriver, I hope those 3 year olds are good to you and the side effects settle down pronto.

pinktransit · 15/04/2024 08:24

Third 2.5mg dose taken last Thursday. Out nearly all weekend and have been pleasantly surprised at how easy it has been to make reasonably good choices. Considering I was out in various pubs from 3pm to midnight on Saturday, I only had 3 1/2 glasses of wine, and chose a small wrap for dinner at Wetherspoons. With a fair bit of walking, I was still 125 calories under my goal.

Just out of interest, I put into Nutracheck what I would normally have eaten and drunk. I would have been over 1800 calories OVER my goal 😮

Yesterday I was out and about again with my other half - a walk in the glorious Skipton castle woods, and then drinks in various bars. I found it so easy to swap my usual pint for a diet coke - unheard of before mj. My boyfriend knows I'm dieting, but not about mj. He's great, no raised eyebrows or comments when I go alcohol free, asked early in the afternoon what my plans were around food.

Unofficial weigh in this morning shows that I'm 5lbs down over 2 1/2 weeks. Will see how official Thursday weigh in goes - pretty sure from previous weeks I'll go up a pound or two. I'm trying out a daily ish weigh in to see what pattern of ups and downs I have. Post menopausal, so don't have TOTM weight variations.

Wishing everyone a great week 😀

NCfor24 · 15/04/2024 08:27

@pinktransit the more the I track the more I realise how many calories I was consuming before... especially alcohol ones! It's really enlightening and I can now see why I am fat! I used to think it wasn't fair and feel hard done by. True, I am a hungry person and I also eat my emotions but the breathing space this drug gives to really learn about your behaviours is amazing.

Well done on such a great weekend!

Thank you for sharing this. Just the right timing as I've gained weight two days in a row despite eating around 1100 kcal and the little voice of self-hate in my head was coming back. If only losing weight was as simple as calories in-calories out and it would all come down to a simple math equation.

kitz90 · 15/04/2024 08:43

Thought I’d share progress here. I’m on week 5. First week of the 5mg pen and I’m 5 foot 3lbs.

SW 13 stone 3
CW 12 stone 5

Jaw clenching and very vivid dreams are still a thing. And some insomnia. But I’ll take that in exchange for less food noise as it’s transforming my life for the better.

I hope everyone has a good week ahead : )

KeepingUndercover · 15/04/2024 09:27

Great progress @kitz90, hope the jaw clenching eases up.

BlackFriYay · 15/04/2024 09:41

Is anybody about to give me a hand please?

I'm in the process of sorting out the bonus dose but I've never done anything like this before so I'm not very confident.

This is what I have extracted into the syringe (see picture)

There is also a small amount left in the pen.

Do I inject what's in my syringe and then extract the remnants of the pen and inject again?

What sort of dose would that amount to? (I'm due to go onto 5mg this week, this dose is my final on 2.5)

I've popped the needle shield back on whilst I wait for some advice.

Many thanks :)

@BlackFriYay
One dose is 0.6ml, so you've got a little bit more than that in the syringe.
