Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.14201.pdf

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. Ask for suggestions of sites /types to buy.

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

  • MedExpress - £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
  • Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
  • The Family Chemist -£149
  • Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
  • Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. Or starter pack with 2.5mg and 5mg pen £319
  • Asda £184
  • Boots £219
  • Chemist4U £179
  • Pharmacy2u
  • Superdrug
There other other sellers, we don't have them all listed

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

I bought these ones but haven't used them yet. You need to make sure they are sterile and intended for medical use. Also if they have a longer needle than the pens you need to not go all the way in as you need to inject into your fat not your muscle.

RagzRebooted · 13/04/2024 23:40

@MotivatedToWin yes my waist is coming back, I've had to tighten my bra, boobs are definitely smaller and I have done some more photos. 12.5lbs down so far, didn't expect to notice it as I didn't notice it creeping on!

Well done @RagzRebooted it’s nice to feel the difference isn’t it. It’s a good point that we don’t notice it creeping up.
I think I will try the photos too. I was reading on Facebook or on here there’s a body scanner app as well which scans your body and you can keep track of your silhouette but I can’t remember the name of it.

RagzRebooted · 14/04/2024 02:22

@MotivatedToWin the app you mean is called me360 I think, I tried it but couldn't get a good angle to do the photos, it needs clear space with nothing in the background and my house is too small/cluttered!

Thank you - so can only see a note saying “ask here for suppliers of needles”. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I did post this earlier, but these will be fine.

Argh first bad side effect: freezing cold. I can't sleep because of it. I like to be a cozy bear all snuggly and warm. I have duvet, 8 pillows, weighted blanket and plenty of clothing and I'm like an ice block, especially my feet 😭

kitchenideas12 · 14/04/2024 04:53

Super, thank you so much and sorry I missed this before!

BlackFriYay · 14/04/2024 06:42

Regarding the needles/syringes people are using to draw out the bonus dose, how are we sterilising them before use? I bought some from amazon that a previous poster shared on a previous thread, the supplier was called something like RayMed and was said to be a medical supplier. This was a few weeks ago and I can't remember if they're already sterilised or not.

Would an alcohol wipe do the job?

Soukmyfalafel · 14/04/2024 06:47

I haven't noticed much change in my belly (although I'm around a stone down) and my boobs are getting smaller. I think I can see it on my face more than anything. The fat on my belly seems less loose for want of a better way of describing it and my jeans are looser. It's a bad time for me to measure physically though as it's TOM. Nobody has asked if I've lost weight yet, but my other half who knows said I felt thinner when he was hugging me. I'm glad nobody else has noticed as I might need to explain.

I did try on my summer shorts hoping to slide into them and I realised I had put on so much weight over autumn and winter that they just fit now. I'm a bit disappointed, but glad I'm not still a stone up and not able to get into them.

I'm feeling rough on 5mg. Struggling to eat anything at all, aching, tired and feel like vomiting this morning.

QuiltedHippo · 14/04/2024 07:08

I get 7 needles with my asda order, does that mean I don't need to buy extra needles for the bonus dose?
Or is it a totally different method of extraction?

If you're doing the 'twist the pen really hard" method then you won't need to buy more needles, you only need to buy syringes if you're planning on extracting manually into a seperate syringe.

I'm on week one of 2.5 and went out for dinner last night. It went STRAIGHT through me. Only just made it to the toilet in time. Made me nervous about eating out and about now

guesttest2 · 14/04/2024 08:02

MelissaLouRocks · 13/04/2024 12:00

My gastro clinic actually originally mentioned collagen to me, as I've had many gynae surgeries that have caused major adhesions and affected my gastro/bowel function. They actually recommended the powdered one and it's helped me enormously, so I'll stick with what I know works for me. They did say the capsules were pretty much a waste of money.

Would you mind sharing which collegan you use. I have recently had major gynae surgery & surgeon commented on the amount of adhesions I have already so would like to try collegan to see if it might help. Thanks

What did you eat? I believe the advice is to avoid fatty rich food whilst on MJ.

NoImNotCurvyImFat · 14/04/2024 08:48

Morning everyone

I started my first dose yesterday morning. Was amazed by the late afternoon I just wasn’t hungry but I picked at food (I should have prepared better)

I struggled to fall asleep and when I did was woken up as the acid reflux was so bad. I always have acid reflux so have Gaviscon by my bed. At one point came up through my nose 😭 I haven’t had it this bad since I was pregnant 17 years ago

did anyone else experience this hopefully just short term

I shall certainly be more thoughtful on what and when I eat today I ate have a prince of toast only because I was taking medication and didn’t want to take it in an empty stomach

ohhollyfred · 14/04/2024 08:54

@susiedaisy1912 I had a chicken breast with a tomato sauce and some med veg and potatoes. It must have been the potatoes. It seemed like a safe choice at the time!

NoImNotCurvyImFat · 14/04/2024 08:56

Piece of toast not prince of toast …

They were sterilised, but I've just included some others a few posts back. Already sterile.

Morning ladies

Back from holiday. I'd said I would not check my weight but I couldn't help it. So after 10 days on a 5 star all inclusive holiday I have .... 🍿🍿🍿.... lost half a pound!!!

Not sure how it's possible but I am delighted. I haven't eaten much to be fair but I've also not felt like I was missing out. I ate what I fancied snd when I fancied.

This means I've lost 12lbs in 6 weeks including 10 days away. Starting a new 5 pen on Tuesday. I hope I'll feel the same as I'm not convinced I ended up taking 5 on my extra dose anyway.

Of course, I don't mind at all. It's this one, Ancient and Brave. Now I will confess this one is sadly not completely tasteless like other brands or the marine collagen, but I've found it's given me the best results. Therefore I usually just put my daily dose in half a glass of juice and knock it back! I really hope it helps, I know how miserable it can be. 💐

Well done @CiderJabs thats great that you managed a hol and didn't gain etc

I am going to a all inclusive in May so wondering how that will go down!

Did you take a pen with you or did you miss a dose? **

Did you have alcohol? If so did you manage much or got drunk?

OP posts:
CiderJabs · 14/04/2024 09:56

@ObsidianTree I took a pen with the intention of taking the extra 2.5 dose but I reckon I ended up taking close to 5 as I had to do the plunger twice all the way up to 1 and back in order to finish the liquid.

I didn't drink much, I just didn't fancy it. Prob had 4 cocktails the whole holiday and 2/3 beers.

I was having a smallish breakfast, most days skipped lunch or had a small snack / ice cream and then dinner. The food selection was huge and I found myself wandering around the restaurant trying to find something I fancied.

I suffered a bit with constipation the first few days and then as soon as I took the jab I suddenly had the runs for a few days, but it didn't bother me that much.

Femeia · 14/04/2024 10:03

That's brilliant @CiderJabs! I'm away for a fortnight next month and very worried as to how it will affect my weight.

I weighed this morning to see if I had managed to lose anything after all - and the scales showed a GAIN of 2lbs Confused There is no way this is actually right so I'm going to step away from the scales for a few days.

NSV instead:

  1. My engagement ring is now twisting on my finger on its own which is both annoying but also great as it shows my finger must be slimmer. Still can't get my wedding ring off so that is my big goal.
  2. I bought new tracksuit bottoms in Primark and went for the 14-16, tried them on with some trepidation and they fit perfectly!
  3. Walk of 11k steps this morning in the sunshine
  4. Found own brand plain Skyr in Co-op this morning- which I'm going to mix with chocolate flavour protein powder and linseeds/pumpkin seeds for a great way to get protein into me, in a way that will feel like a treat.
  5. Going to do a trial run of packing for my holiday later to check what I may need to buy. Will be including plenty of clothes for walking plus protein powder and other things to help keep me on the right track. I know I won't be perfect in the evenings but will do my best in the daytime.

What's everyone else up to today?

ObsidianTree · 14/04/2024 10:06

Thanks @CiderJabs sounds like you had a great time ☺️ did everyone you went with know you were taking mounjaro?

I am also going for a about 10/11 days. So would need to jab when there. But worried about taking my pen with me! But also thinking, do I want to waste the holiday not wanting to eat or drink! I love cocktails! But also don't want to gain weight or risk feeling the full hunger and wanting to gorge!

Which country did you go? Did you find it was ok transporting it?

I'm going with my parents, my two aunts and a cousin. So wonder if it's going to be obvious that I can't eat much. I suppose I could go with everyone at lunchtime and get like fruit salad or salad. So at least I'm eating in front of people etc!
