I'm looking at the new David Emanuel range here and wondered if I splashed out and bought the beautiful red floral dress and cream jacket can I wear them to both wedding this year. Some of the same people will be there, does anyone really remember?

The newspapers are always telling us Princess Anne is wearing an outfit or coat she first wore in 1975 or similar. If it's good enough for her I'd go for it. It looks a lovely dress.

GingerIsBest · 10/04/2024 16:30

100% fine.

Think of it this way, if you had a favourite going out top or shoes or something in your younger days, you'd wear it every time and even if people noticed, they'd just know because it's your favourite "going out top".

I wouldn't think twice about wearing the same dress to more than one wedding.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 10/04/2024 16:32

Yes of course.

DH has worn the same suit to every wedding we've been to over the last 30 years. Including our own

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 10/04/2024 16:33

Be careful. I wore the same dress to two weddings and at the second one the bride was furious with me and asked me to leave. I thought she was being ridiculous, if the dress was good enough for my wedding it was good enough for hers too.

... And the resulting chaos in your wardrobe and vast accumulation of unwanted stuff that you don't actually want ! ! ! Early deaths of over-worked five year olds in Bangladeshi sweatshops , immense damage to the environment and overflowing landfills that eventually have to be traded to Turkish companies that throw your unwanted sh** into remote mediterranean beaches

Here is the attention you crave.

WaltzingWaters · 10/04/2024 16:36

I’ve worn the same dress to several weddings/christenings. Generally different friendship groups though so not much overlap in guests. But I think it’s fine anyway. Only snobby people would comment on that!

LilyPAnderson · 10/04/2024 16:39

I don't understand why it's wrong to be seen in the same clothes twice? Do people really criticise somebody if they see them in the same clothes again? If you buy something you like, what do some people think you should do with it after wearing the first time? Especially in these times of clothes ending up in landfill, so you can say you're being environmentally concious.

Plus if you like certain clothes, why wouldn't you wear them again?
Although sometimes changing accessories can change how the same outfit looks. Such as a scarf or crochet cardigan.

Very good! 😊

Ha ha a comedian. I didn't realise it was a joke until the end.

Apart from the talentless celeb media, that tell us to see skanky half wits as role models and style icons, has anybody here ever, or know anybody, that has put down a person for wearing the same clothes twice? Can somebody explain to me the logic of why anybody would not be nice about a person who does?

My partner often remembers what clothes I wore on special occasions, and we give them names, such as the Riverside Restaurant dress, and he likes it when I wear them again.

Is that the Riverside Restaurant as in Marlow? I've only been once but it was worth remembering; how lovely to give things special names like that.

OP, I think the consensus is yes, you can wear your dress twice and people will either not realise or not care. They'll just see happy @Janet32 looking great and hopefully having a wonderful time. Anybody who does care is not worth bothering with.

I have three dresses for weddings, all very expensive and worn for every wedding in the last 15 years 😁
It's crazy to buy a dress for each wedding. Invest a great dress, look after it and wear it multiple times.
I'd much prefer to wear a stunning dress on repeat than lesser quality dress.

User236792 · 10/04/2024 18:19

The answer is pretty much always “yes”. The only time I can imagine the answer to this question being “no” is if one of the weddings is your own and you are wondering about wearing your big white gown to another wedding.

effoffwind · 10/04/2024 18:26

If it helps you Op .. I've worn the same black jumpsuit to my works Xmas party 3 years in a row

The only reason I won't be wearing it this year is because I'm hoping it won't fit me
Craving chocolate but pretending to love slimming world

Greyat · 10/04/2024 18:29

Maybe not if you were in the main wedding parrty for both, but otherwise yes

MrsClatterbuck · 10/04/2024 18:33

I have a dress that I have wore to 5 weddings. One had some of the same people. I did change some of the accessories.

Topseyt123 · 10/04/2024 18:34

Of course you can. Why on earth not?

I'd be extremely surprised if anyone even noticed.

ILovedThe90s · 10/04/2024 18:44

Not much help to your situation but feel I have to share my story. I bought a gorgeous selwar kameez for two different Asian weddings in different cities. I thought I could get away with wearing it to both, but guess what? The same caterers were at both weddings! One of the waiters recognised me and called me out on it. I was MORTIFIED!

daisychain01 · 10/04/2024 18:49

Janet32 · 10/04/2024 09:38

Really, did anyone mention it?

Of course you can.

How many times do we see photos of Princess Anne who wears the same coats, skirts, handbags, etc. She's a great role model and quite honestly she doesn't give a flying 4X what people think!

MrsSkylerWhite · 10/04/2024 18:51

Of course you can. So what if they do? Is there something wrong with wearing a dress twice?

This and the wearing your own wedding dress to someone else's wedding joke has really brightened my day.

@Janet32 Of course you can. I recycle all my outfits for special occasions because each one took so much time, thought, brain space and money, how else would it be worth it? I love recycling outfits, I know exactly what I'll look like and feel like.

Epidote · 10/04/2024 18:59

Why not?

Skigal86 · 10/04/2024 20:37

I bought a Vivienne Westwood dress for a wedding a few years ago and told all my friends I was wearing for every wedding and special occasion forever more so I got my moneys worth! I have a wedding in two weeks and it doesn’t fit 😭

catonmyback · 10/04/2024 21:15

Sure but it's £28 so that's not splashing out . It's an every day dress
