How much did you spend on flowers?

Hello,

Getting married in October this year and looking at styling the venue along with flowers.

I am curious if you could tell me what flowers you had, and how much it cost please?

I have attached some photos of what I'd love ideally.

  1. I want flowers along the aisle but would like these to then be moved for centre pieces on tables
  1. Ceremony table flowers- move to top table in reception.
  1. Half/semi arch behind tables? Again to move to behind top table.
  1. Bride bouquet.
  1. Three bridesmaid bouquets- can these be reused at all? In vases on cake table maybe?
  1. Buttonhole for groomsmen x 4
  1. Flowers (meadow) in front of ceremony table and then moved to in front of top table.

£500. For x2 bridesmaid and one bridal bouquet. DIY flowers to make up around 20 jam jar vases. Buttonholes for x10 and a few gorgeous willow wreaths dressed with flowers to hang around the venue. All locally grown, seasonal spring flowers. I loved the flowers so much!

LorlieS · 18/02/2024 22:24

Not much as we were keeping costs down. I had a wrist corsage rather than a bouquet and we only had one big table for all of our guests (tiny wedding - 17 of us in total). My only adult bridesmaid (my husband's niece) put her bouquet on the table too ❤️

Did you do the DIY yourself? I am utterly useless and not creative at all. I'm finding this all very overwhelming!

I am hoping to keep costs down but I think for what I want it'll be around £2k

Is the aisle in a church? If so you need to check with the church about removing flowers- it is bad form really (unless the church has lots of weddings)

miniworry · 18/02/2024 22:30

Our flowers cost us £3699 in total and had similar to what you are looking for ceremony wise. we reused the arch in the wedding breakfast and also 3 of the urns in the wedding breakfast too.

Also had button holes, 1 x bridal bouquet and 6 bridesmaid bouquets.

@noseovertailforyouth I should add it's our anniversary tomorrow so we had to buy flowers at the most expensive time of the year (valentines) which I know did make quite a big difference to the price!

MerCatsSpawScience · 18/02/2024 22:43

Bridal bouquet, 2 x bridesmaid bouquets, 6 button holes and a top table piece for me was £1000. It was mostly roses.

Seeleyboo · 18/02/2024 22:48

Wow. ALOT of money. I paid 10 quid for a small bouquet. I then laid them at the site of a local girls' death site.

CaraMiaMonCher · 18/02/2024 22:51

Most of the stuff you want for “meadow” flowers is out of season for an October wedding - in those pics I can see Delphinium, Ranunculus, Gladioli and various others - none of which are available in the UK by October. A florist may be able to get some of them imported for you, but it will cost you a lot.

Better to work with a florist on your preferences and they’ll be able to advise how they can create something similar to the look you’re after with seasonally appropriate flowers.

I think you’re going to have a big bang back down to earth with the quantity of things you’re wanting, the out of season flowers/look and the actual cost of professional floristry.

£500 back in year 2000. Bridal bouquet of Grand Prix roses 6 bridesmaid bouquets of the same. 2 flower girl head pieces. Top table and large display in the church. Also button holes for the men. It seemed a lot of money then but actually I think we got a lot for our money

Sconeswithnutella · 18/02/2024 23:06

Around £1000 ten years ago; that was 12 table centrepieces, flowers on my cake, 3 bridesmaids bouquets, my bouquet and 40 buttonhole flowers (for a religious tradition before anyone jumps on that). Oh and a big long table decoration for the top table.

We got married 6 years ago. We had proteas, roses, tulips, gerbera, and various foliage. I had one bridal bouquet, one bridesmaid bouquet, a wrist corsage, 3 flower girl wands, 6 button holes i think, 8 center pieces, and two cake table displays, plus I made a bouquet for my mum as a gift too. We paid £800 or so for the flowers from an online wholesaler, and made everything ourselves, my SIL is incredibly talented and designed everything, and taught us how to make them. That £800 doesn't include the oasis, holders, wire, ribbon or pins or any of the sundries we needed to make it all work though. While we saved a fortune in labour time doing it ourselves, it was a heck of a lot to do on the day before the wedding.

Also it would have been a lot cheaper without the proteas as they were fairly out of season, and were imported, as well. They had meaning for us though, so we wanted them.

noseovertailforyouth · 19/02/2024 15:36

Sorry they are not the flowers I want! Just the style/look of them. I know that they will be seasonal.

I have been quoted £1800 so far.

If someone has quoted you £1800 then that seems suspiciously cheap. I’m a florist. £3-4k would be what I would expect, although that would depend on the area of the country you are in and also if you require specific flowers.

Also I should add that moving the arch might be a problem depending where it’s being moved from-to. They are usually made in situ. Is it an all in one ceremony/reception/party venue?

Oh really! Thank you for that. I'm in Wiltshire. Yes, it's all in one place and they have done it before lots too!

OP posts:
noseovertailforyouth · 19/02/2024 18:21

So it would be

1x bouquet for me
2 x bridesmaids (maybe 3)
4 x groom buttonhole
1 semi arch
1 table arrangement
Flowers for aisle x 6-8

Nicebloomers · 19/02/2024 18:36

Does your venue have a list of preferred suppliers? They would be worth asking for quotes.

At least you’re not going to be paying London prices if you’re in Wiltshire 😂

Caspianberg · 19/02/2024 18:43

€80. Just small bouquet from local garden centre florist. They made it up and delivered directly to hotel that morning. We then sent off after wedding to an artist who dried the flowers over a few months, then arranged as artwork and framed €450. Im glad we spent more on the artwork than multiple flowers.

The hotel provided flowers at table anyway from their regular whatever was in season table flowers (flowers left on tables all week for all guests)
