Where did you get married?

We’re not getting married until August 2025, however have no idea where. We definitely don’t want it to be in our local area ( Lancashire ) not keen on Scotland either as we’ve both spent plenty of time there and want it to be “Special”
Just want some recommendations, don’t mind spending a long time travelling to get there. Thanks💒

Kenya

Staffordshire.

is it just going to be the 2 of you? Because you might not mind travelling a long time, but your guests might.

DisforDarkChocolate · 27/08/2023 17:20

Richmond in North Yorkshire. It was only the registry office but neither of us wanted anything fancy.

Hexham in Northumberland has a beautiful registry office. It even has self-catering appartements above it.

@PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister yeah just us two :)

Vegas.

MrsMoastyToasty · 27/08/2023 17:47

In Bristol at my local parish church. We got married before the laws changed to allow you to marry in hotels etc, so it was either church or registry office.

cherryassam · 27/08/2023 17:54

We got married locally as we wanted both our big families there but if we were eloping I’d have been thinking about:

Las Vegas Chapel, maybe with an Elvis, definitely with a special dinner then a show

NYC Courthouse wedding with pictures in Central Park then dinner at Loeb Boathouse

Gibraltar (it’s a British registry office)

British Virgin Islands on the beach

Fiji on the beach

Bora Bora on the beach (you get the idea…)

A little church on a hill on a Greek Island

Disney World at the wedding pavilion at the Floridian. If I was eloping with just the two if us I'd definitely think about Vegas or NYC.

Definitely think about your guests. Soon to be SILs wedding is in three weeks and she’s decided to host it in a venue that requires a lot of travel. Most guests have declined and in total she has 15 people attending the wedding and is really upset about this.

ciakace · 27/08/2023 18:08

@Gx57uvv I agree, however we are not having any guests. Spending the money on a luxury holiday & wedding instead. Bless your SIL, Same happened with my niece.

We booked a wedding package abroad so the honeymoon was part of it. We didn't have family there either and a couple from the plane who were at the same hotel were our witnesses

An Italian castle in lake Garda

Cyclingforcake · 27/08/2023 18:17

Lake District

TaniaBania · 27/08/2023 18:18

In your position I'd think about Lake Como.

In that case, have a look at Millbrook.

I got married here

Cons - you’re basically getting married in someone’s rather large garden
Pros - the wedding suppliers (florist etc) are great, the wedding was stress free and the post wedding meal by the private chef was amazing and intimate

We went into Bristol as the first day as Mrs and Mrs and know use that as our go to place for anniversaries

Beware- A friend got married in Italy and it was a bureaucratic nightmare
had to have a register office as well as “main” wedding and organise all kinds of translators etc. I think she had to be there for 7 days before getting married too.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 27/08/2023 19:22

Bakewell town hall

Long enough ago they we could only get married in a church or register office, and Bakewell was out second closest town and much prettier than our closest town.

bakewellbride · 27/08/2023 19:53

Bakewell. It's absolutely stunning there. Would recommend.

bakewellbride · 27/08/2023 19:54

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads oooh same! It's beautiful.

afinethingindeed · 27/08/2023 19:57

St Lucia, just us two. So easily done, the hotel took care of paper work. We had a chilled meeting on day 2 of our holiday where we spoke about our plans and it was all sorted for us.

MaraScottie · 27/08/2023 19:59

Artimino in Tuscany.

No major issues with the admin, just had to sign a form in the town hall.

MissAmbrosia · 27/08/2023 20:09

Chelsea Registry Office - wedding venue to the stars 😂DH was well chuffed to see the book they have - Paul McCartney, DH Lawrence, Sid James.....we stayed at the Chelsea Harbour Hotel (which was most of the cost) and went to Bibendum for lunch. It was a lovely day.

UsingChangeofName · 27/08/2023 20:12

At my home Church, where we lived, and where the overwhelming majority of family and friends lived.

crackfoxy · 27/08/2023 20:13

Our local church, had reception in church hall
