Witness for Civil Partnership Exeter 22/08/23

Hi Everyone,

I've seen that a few people have managed to find witnesses through Mumsnet before so I thought I'd try myself.

My partner and I plan to form a civil partnership in Exeter on August 22nd and we need two witnesses. We had originally planned to have both our mothers travel across from Ireland, but sadly his grandad's health prevents his mother from travelling. Instead we have decided to just do the legalises over here and then travel back there in the following days for celebrations.

So, we are just going to do a quick, 5 minute max, sign the papers and leave.

If anyone would be willing to help us out by being a witnesses we would be incredibly grateful. We only recently moved to Exeter and all out friends are a couple hours flight away, so we don't want them spending loads of money for such a short event.

Thanks in advance to anyone who would be willing to give up their time. You'd really be helping us out.

What time do you need someone?

It's to take place at 9:30 at the Devon registry office, so we'd probably need someone there for 9:20ish but we should be done by 9:35. As I said, we are literally just signing the papers, there is no ceremony.

alternatively, grab someone on the street if it's 5 mins - two people will be delighted i imagine and i doubt you'll have any problems.

Yes, if it comes to it we'll definitely try this! It would just be nice to have something sorted before hand so that it was another worry off the list.

We are still looking for two witnesses, if anyone is available you would be doing us a big favour. It is possible that we could just ask two people on the day, but it would just put our minds at ease to know we had it sorted.

If we don't get anyone we're just going to have to ask some random people walking by. Our worry is that it'll be close to the time people will be heading to work and so they won't be able to stop for the 5 mins to help.
