Song to walk down the aisle to

If you had to choose one song to walk down the aisle to, what would it be and why?
Currently planning my wedding for next year and the one song I've always wanted to walk down the aisle too, my MIL had for her wedding last may, so I can't really choose it. Now really struggling with what song to choose!
Recommendations needed! ❤️💍

Don't want to be harsh but nobody (apart from you and MiL) will likely notice (and I include your partners in that). If you really love that music find a very different version and own it.

I walked down to ABBA singing I do, I do, I do. Makes me smile to think of it.

I absolutely love this song and said to my mum about having it, but she thinks it would be boring to have the same as my MIL, but I've literally always wanted this song ever since I was younger. There's a few I could go for but I just don't think it would be the same x

If you really want that song, just have it

I always wanted to have Pachelbel's Canon in D (I think it was from watching Father of the Bride when I was younger!). For various reasons, we ended up eloping so never had an aisle song. Am very happy we married the way we did and it was 100% the best decision for us, but whenever I hear that song, I am a tiny bit sad I never got to use it.

If you have wanted a song for a long time, I would say to definitely use it. Nothing else will feel quite right. Just out of curiosity, what is the song?

The acoustic version of a thousand years, Christina perri. Always wanted that song ever since I was little but his parents wedding was just over a year ago and that was her song too, I don't want to be cliche and use the same song! 🤣 but at the same time, it's my wedding. Just feeling very conflicted about it. At least we have our first dance song chosen! x

That is a really beautiful song. I would definitely still use it. As a pp has said, apart from your MIL, I doubt anyone else will even notice, and even if they, so what? It's a lovely song and is special to you.

LadyGAgain · 21/06/2023 06:14

Hoppipolla - the original sigur ros version.

JosieOhNo · 21/06/2023 06:34

When I fall in love - Nat King Cole!
Beautiful song, and worked perfectly

You could use the same as your MIL, and PP is right, nobody would really know. But... you've built it up in your head now so if you were to use it, it's all you would have in your head as you walk down the aisle.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 21/06/2023 07:12

I had Kodaline the one

gogohmm · 21/06/2023 07:19

Arrival of the Queen of Sheba by Handel or if there was a good quality choir, greater love by John Ireland. Church wedding

sallydoodlecat · 21/06/2023 07:20

Depends on type of service. I had The Prayer Andrea Bocelli. Church service. I'd go for the same song. Doesn't matter if MIL had it.

SpringIntoChaos · 21/06/2023 07:28

This version of Can't help falling in love. I can't have the Elvis version because it was my parents, and I'd never manage to get through without crying, as they are no longer with us, but the song means so much to me that I'd want to make it mine too and this is such a beautiful remake.

MissingMoominMamma · 21/06/2023 07:32

Use it! I imagine your MIL will be thrilled that you both love the same song!

Quitelikeacatslife · 21/06/2023 07:50

I'm in a community choir and we sang a thousand years for one of the members daughters to come down the aisle to, was lovely. Maybe look on Spotify for a choral version so is different?
I had string quartet playing pachelbel cannon D and dont regret it, very classy .

newtb · 21/06/2023 08:00

I would've had either the minuet type bit of Handel's firework music or Trumpet Voluntary or tune by Clark. Lots of good music - but was a chorister.

Had just the service said, no music.

Thisbastardcomputer · 21/06/2023 08:30

Procel Harem, A whiter shade of pale.

autieawesome · 21/06/2023 08:58

I had Ed Sheeran perfect literally just as it came out so it wasn't over played.

I also liked elbow one day like this but my best friend had it

ALittleBitAlexa · 21/06/2023 11:11

It was only released in 2011, you must be pretty young if you've wanted it since you were little! I don't mean to be cheeky but it's not a unique choice, lots of people have that song as their aisle song, so if you really wanted to you could definitely still use it. And there's nothing worse than people trying to be tooooo different/quirky at their wedding. However, a relative that close and a wedding that recent, the song would be ruined for me.

I think we probably have different tastes but we considered Tom Odell - Real Love, Glasgow Love Theme from Love Actually, Death Cab for Cutie - Soul Meets Body, Paul Weller - You Do Something to Me, The Maccabees - Toothpaste Kisses, Jose Gonzalez - Heartbeats, and Sigur Ros - Hoppipolla as PP suggested. Look up Stringspace, Vitamin String Quartet and Midnite String Quartet on Spotify - you can get lovely strings versions of pop songs.

JorisBonson · 21/06/2023 11:13

Elbow - One Day Like This

Bluebells1970 · 21/06/2023 11:15

I'd just go for a different version of the same song, either a cover or an orchestral/choir version?

reabies · 21/06/2023 11:58

I had my friend play All of Me by John Legend on the piano, no singing. Worked really nicely.

Evenstar · 21/06/2023 12:08

We had an instrumental version of One Day Like This by Elbow

afaloren · 21/06/2023 12:17

I walked to the opening of Sweet Child O’ Mine by Guns no’ Roses. DH, bridal
party, everyone else walked to I Was Born To Love You by Queen.

Kilorrery · 21/06/2023 12:21

if you want it, have it. I’d be surprised if anyone notices other than your MIL — it’s a pretty standard choice.
