Payment of bridesmaids dresses

Hi , new here so bare with. My best friend is maid of honour at my wedding plus two teenage bridesmaids. My fiancé and I will be paying for her accommodation and the night before the wedding including a dinner. we paid for her at the tasting meal and of course we paid for the make up trial and hair and makeup on the day, all of which we were happy to do. The bridesmaids dress is £120 and obviously there are shoes, accessories etc to buy. Should I ask her to pay for her whole outfit, just the dress, just shoes and accessories or all of it. There is such conflicting info on line.
Thanks

I paid for everything except the shoes for mine. They wore their own and I didn't care if they matched etc. If I was saying they had to wear specific shoes I'd have paid for those too

Whitney168 · 24/08/2022 19:58

None of it - you want her dressed a particular way, then you need to pay for it, I’m afraid.

Brendabigbaps · 24/08/2022 19:59

you should pay for all of it, unless you’ve given her free reign to buy what she wants.
however I wouldn’t be paying for her hotel accommodation

HunterHearstHelmsley · 24/08/2022 20:00

If you want a specific dress, shoes, accessories then you should pay.

Shouldbedoing · 24/08/2022 20:00

The bride pays for all of it. What use is a bridesmaid's dress to anyone. The shoes should perhaps be chosen by each individual in a style to suit the dress and bride, but the bride pays.

newbiename · 24/08/2022 20:00

You should pay for all of it

Thurlow · 24/08/2022 20:01

All of it if you are choosing. You want her to look a certain way, you pay for it, because generally no one is going to get a couple of hundred pounds worth of wear out of what might essentially be a ballgown.

If you’re letting her chose, then I suppose she could pay.

fairgame84 · 24/08/2022 20:01

You pay for all of it.

DottyLittleRainbow · 24/08/2022 20:02

I paid for bridesmaids dresses and said that any shoes/accessories etc was fine. But didn’t pay for anything else as it wasn’t the kind of wedding to involve hair/makeup, accommodation etc. I think if you’re particular about specific accessories and shoes you need to pay - if not then just pay for the dress.

Jules912 · 24/08/2022 20:02

You should pay unless they get to choose. I did offer to pay for the dress last time I was a bridesmaid as it was something I could wear again and I quite liked it, but would be put out to pay for something I'd be unlikely to wear again.

toastofthetown · 24/08/2022 20:03

My rule for bridesmaids was that if I wanted something specific, then I paid. I paid for the dressed, because I dictated but didn't for the shoes or jewellery because I had no preference and was happy for them to wear what they had. I'd be annoyed to have to pay for bridesmaid dress.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 24/08/2022 20:03

You shouldn't ask her to pay for any of it!

ZenNudist · 24/08/2022 20:03

Bride pays for all of it.

QueSyrahSyrah · 24/08/2022 20:04

All of it, if you want things to be specific. I wasn't fussed what shoes or accessories my bridesmaids wore so they all just used things they already had.

Fleur405 · 24/08/2022 20:04

I would be astounded (and not in a good way) if someone asked me to be their bridesmaid and then informed me I have to buy a particular dress/shoes/accessories etc.

BoringMumso · 24/08/2022 20:06

She has a free reign in terms of style and the shoes, and I have just ask her to match the colours of the wedding generally. (Deep tones)

I paid for all my brides maid dress - they paid for their shoes, but they could choose the shoes so something to their taste that they could wear again. I wouldn’t make anyone pay for something that I was deciding on or particular about.

icelollycraving · 24/08/2022 20:06

You need to pay for it all. It’s for your day so she wouldn’t need the dress/ hotel etc without your wedding. The only thing poss is shoes.

CaroleFuckingBaskin · 24/08/2022 20:07

You cannot expect to choose what your bridesmaids wear to your wedding and expect them to foot the bill.

No doubt they'll be buying you a present, paying towards the hen do. That's enough, especially in the current climate. When will they get to wear any of it again?

Chanel05 · 24/08/2022 20:07

You pay for everything, the lot

Tiredmum100 · 24/08/2022 20:08

In my experience the Bride pays for it all. I wouldn't dream of choosing a dress for my wedding then ask my bridesmaid to pay for it. Very rude/cheeky in my opinion. I've been bridesmaid 5 times, never paid for my dress!

mrsbitaly · 24/08/2022 20:09

I probably would have skipped the makeup trial and tasting and even makeup. I paid for hair, dress and shoes. I've not come across anyone that asks their bridesmaid to buy the dress.

chillipenguin · 24/08/2022 20:09

You pay for all of it unless she can wear whatever accessories she has already. And she might already have some shoes.

Justmuddlingalong · 24/08/2022 20:10

She shouldn't have to pay anything to do you a favour. If you can't or won't pay for outfits and all the other bumf, you can have a small, inexpensive wedding.

AverageJoan · 24/08/2022 20:10

I think you should pay for the dress. If your budget is tight, I'd ask her to pay for her own accommodation. If I was going to be a bridesmaid for someone I would more reasonably expect to pay for my accommodation than the dress
