Have you postponed your wedding? If yes, when to?

Hi everyone. Thought I would start a thread to see if you have had to move your wedding due to Covid.

I was due to get married 26 June. The church told us they advise us to postpone as we were the only couple who hadn’t moved to next year. Both my hen do and other half’s stag do’s were planned abroad but are now cancelled. Was going to rearrange for August but can’t see the point as that means no stag, no hen, and we don’t know when the wedding ban will be lifted.

Anyone have any feeling towards the wedding ban? We aren’t booking anything till it’s lifted.

Interested to hear others stories

We’ve moved from 20 June 2020 to Sunday 30th May 2021 (last bank holiday weekend in May).

Gutted 2020 is not going to be our year, but it was actually quite straightforward to move everything and all the suppliers are moving with no fees to pay - everyone’s been very understanding!

The only thing outstanding is some flights we had booked for our mini moon to Greece which is just after the wedding If the flight doesn’t get cancelled then we’ll still go (which will very strange!) but just get some cheap accommodation somewhere...

I’m also a bit upset as I wanted to start TTC next January - which will need to be put on hold for a bit... :-(

I would suggest if you are looking to reschedule to do it sooner rather than later, as suppliers are getting very busy (hence why we ended up on a Sunday!)

Thank you for your reply @fatfat

We keep putting off booking a date as DP keeps saying no point until ban is lifted ?!? Maybe we should just book to next year. I feel this has taken the excitement out of everything

We moved from early August this year to end of July next year. All our vendors just did a straight swap for us, took away all of the stress immediately 👍

HellOfATime919 · 14/04/2020 19:29

Congrats on the new date both of you - I’m going to email the venue now

Moved from end of May to end of next July 😩 we've had to pay an extra 50% of our venue cost as we moved to the next financial year (we could have rescheduled before March 2021 for free but we didn't want a winter/early spring wedding), but all other suppliers have moved for no additional charge

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 14/04/2020 22:18

Yes, we have moved from early August to late July 2021. The venue (owned by friends of ours) emailed today and suggested it as they couldn't guarantee they would be open by then. We contacted the caterer and photographer who have already confirmed they can postpone for us. Just waiting to hear back from the florist now.

I feel a bit sad that we're not getting married this year but pleased that we've been able to move so easily. Our planned honeymoon in northern Italy has been looking off the table for a while now anyway!

MoreGinPlease2020 · 14/04/2020 22:19

Due to get married end of May and haven't postponed yet. Our suppliers seem pretty relaxed but we can't do anything at the moment as we can't get hold of either the venue or the registry office as both are closed. We apparently have to go like for like so it'll be a Sunday wedding which hopefully isn't too popular... We were hoping to be able to have the legal bit done come what may but ultimately it wouldn't be the wedding we wanted so I think we'll likely postpone.

dyscalculicgal96 · 14/04/2020 22:22

A friend’s wedding which was early next month has been rescheduled. I just heard it may happen next summer instead.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 14/04/2020 22:27

I rescheduled my late-March wedding for September this year. I’m just hoping that’s far enough.

TheDogsMother · 14/04/2020 22:30

We've moved from 9th May to 30th October. Who know if this will go ahead.

Mummyme87 · 14/04/2020 22:35

11th April 2020 to 28th November 2020 😔

pinkpanther84 · 14/04/2020 22:44

I moved our April wedding to 26 September this year- at the time of moving it, September seemed ages away but now I'm wondering if we should have pushed it further back

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 14/04/2020 22:50

Snap @pinkpanther84. Wedding twins! Cake

pinkpanther84 · 14/04/2020 23:03

@seasonallysnowypeasant fingers crossed for us both!

Moved from end of May this year to end of May next year. We wanted a Spring wedding and didn't want to rebook for later this year. No problems with any of of suppliers, they've all been superb. Only one company I have been unable to contact and that was my hen do venue. They were supposed to contact me but didn't and they aren't replying to emails. It's out me off rebooking with them to be honest.

bravotango · 16/04/2020 08:45

Moved from October 3rd 2020 to March 6th 2021. We have family/friends coming from overseas so needed to make sure they could all travel. Also - getting my dress made was going to be tough on lockdown!

StrongInside · 18/04/2020 22:30

We are due to get married in August. I can see that a lot of people are rebooking to next year but I just can’t decide. Are you not worried about second/third waves or re-infected recovered patients? This virus could mutate more and become annual like flu. So hard to get excited about switching to next year.

HellOfATime919 · 18/04/2020 23:35

When do you all think the weeding Ban will be lifted ?

Bridecilla · 18/04/2020 23:38

Moved from July 18th 2020 to july 16th 21

Wolfgirrl · 18/04/2020 23:40

We are due to get married in October. I dont know whether to just delay it or not?

We also want a second baby quite soon which complicates things, it doesnt feel like a good idea ttc any time soon but equally I dont want to be a pregnant bride or wait until 2022.

rainbowlou · 18/04/2020 23:47

My friend has changed her April wedding to August this year and I can’t help thinking she is going to be disappointed again 🙁

daisydalrymple · 18/04/2020 23:58

Have you all seen the bloom gin favours wedding offer? it says they are offering 5cl miniatures as wedding favours for anyone who postpones their wedding due to covid-19.

delilahbucket · 19/04/2020 08:12

@daisydalrymple I was tagged in that and the Channel 4 post a million times. It's a competition, they're not just giving gin away. You have to have a minimum number of guests, and your venue has to have a licence that allows consumption of alcohol that they didn't sell.

daisydalrymple · 19/04/2020 10:59

Ahh I’d just read a few articles on it in online magazines, which seemed fairly legit. I’ve been married 14 years, so not relevant to me but seemed a nice thing to share.
Sneaky of them Hmm

delilahbucket · 19/04/2020 13:55

Great advertising for them though!
