How many carats is your engagement ring?

I’m looking for a halo engagement ring and had in in my head I wanted at least a carat but most of the ones in our price range are less than 0.75.

Anyone mind telling me how many carats theirs is and would it be really nosey to ask how much it cost?

I’m not sure how much we should be expecting to spend and what we should expect to get for it.

There is so much to factor in such as the metal. Then when finding a diamond you need to look at the cut, clarity, colour and carat weight as a whole.

So it won't be as super simple as someone disclosing their carat weight and overall cost of the ring. Hope this helps.

My main stone is half carat and the rest of the diamonds (halo and bezel set on the band) makes it up to a carat. I have no idea what it costs because the website is showing sale prices but I know where it came from and my husband did a lot of research because he’s anal like that.

Try diamond factory they’re online and I got my wedding band from there too.

Mine was a solitaire, just over 0.8 ct.
My wedding ring was set with diamonds of 1.5 ct.
My eternity ring is just over 3 cts.

Don't know price of engagement / wedding rings but the eternity ring was about £7.5k about 9 years ago.

Have you tried any independent jewellers? They can normally try to match what you want within your budget constraints.

Have a look at 77diamonds, you can play around with the carat size on there. Worth noting you’re better prioritising cut over carat size, as cut is what makes it sparkle.

My centre stone is 0.8 ct, including shoulders its 1.0 ct total weight. No idea what it cost, sorry.

Mine is a 0.6 solitaire, but very high up the scale on colour and clarity (can't remember the details now, it's been a few years!). I'd initially wanted bigger, but I have skinny fingers, and it's about one third of the width of my finger so the proportions work really nicely. Bigger ones just looked weird when I tried them on. Think it cost about £2500. Might be wrong.

Oops. DH says £3200. Not as cheap a date as I'd thought!

Less than that. Bought 16 years ago. It's the ring I liked, not the numbers.

Its so confusing! When I posted this I’d forgotten all about all the other stuff too like cut and clarity etc. It seeks like eg Beaverbrooks you just pick a ring then there’s the websites where you select the exact diamond you want. Which route is best to go down?

Mine is 0.75 carat solitaire and cost £4K. Like others have said though depends on the clarity, cut, colour. A very high quality smaller diamond will be significantly cheaper than a large poor quality one

Go to an independent jeweller and try some on. They will also be able to make up whatever combination you want if they don't have it in.

0.6 solitaire. Very good clarity. Was 1900

James Allen seems a good option if I can get my head round all the different things I need to consider.

0.8ct trilogy, great quality, 1920s antique, and it’s fucking beautiful. I don’t think I’d have wanted any bigger, this is the right level of sparkly and eye catching without being gaudy. Cost around £1400 I believe.

Mine 0.8 but high clarity and cost around £5k. It easily looks big enough, in fact I think much bigger and I wouldn’t be able to wear it day to day as it would look too blingy.

Apparently in 1980 you would pay £1000 for 1 carat, so says my mother who thinks that they should still be £1000 for 1 carat...

No idea as it was a family hand me down. Big and sparkly though!

I secretly lust after an eternity ring. Loads of my friends got them for their first baby, but I would like one when we've been married a bit longer than that - 20th anniversary maybe - as I think when you have your first baby you're usually still in the foothills of your marriage (hopefully!)

Have you considered second hand? They have minimal value compared to new rings so you can often get a bargain. It’s much more environmentally sound, the platinum for my rings would have been processed from 1.5 - 2 tonnes of ore over a process taking several months. And more ethically sound too as the diamond is already out of the ground and doesn’t need to be mined. I think this is something we will see more and more over the next few decades as we start to run out of some of our precious metal reserves

I think I’d prefer more delicate on the shoulders though actually.
