Hi all

My sister is getting married and has asked me to organise her favours (I've offered to help and she'll pay). I was trying to think of something different but wanted to ask your thoughts. What's your best favours, here are my ideas so far.

  • Soap for the women
  • Miniature bottle of whiskey for the men
  • Bottle openers for both men and women
  • Love heart sweets (personalised) for both
  • Luggage tag (couple loves to travel)
  • Tote bag

Perfume Parlour do wedding favours, apparently.

VikingVolva · 29/08/2019 16:31

Unless it is condom and femidom, do not give different gifts to the sexes. Because unless for use on the genitals, it's an unnecessary complication.

Also, I wouldn't go to the fuss of personalisation, unless you mean by it the happy couple's initials and the date. In which case whack that on love heart sweeties for everyone

Charity donations are becoming more popular. Some with pins, and others just with a message on the table explaining where they were donating and why. Certainly didn't miss having something to take home. Have been at a spring wedding where the couple gave everyone a little packet of seeds, the packet was personalised for the wedding. Local products can also be nice if u have guests travelling a longer distance to the wedding venue. Was given a succulent once and thought it was a nice idea, kept it for years. Another one I remember is a personalised compact mirror. Was something practical that I actually used. My advice would be not to spend too much or go OTT, favours aren't make or break for people's enjoyment of the wedding.

I'd bin everything on that list bar the love hearts. I'd include the love hearts - every event I've been to where love hearts were used have ended up in loads being left over. At least with lindt chocs if you don't like them the person next to you will take yours home!

My friend did little bowls of celebrations which doubled as centrepieces instead of flowers. She saved loads of money and it went down really well.

Stormblessed · 29/08/2019 16:54

My favourite was pretty little bottles of cocktails with 'drink me' labels and little boxes of different flavours of fudge. Yum!

Mummy2one2016 · 29/08/2019 16:55

We did little organza bags with sunflower seeds in. It was lovely receiving pictures from people in the months that followed the wedding of there sunflower growing in the sun.

My sister had a summer wedding and everyone got a pair of brightly coloured matching sunglasses. They were needed on the day as it was sunny, made great photos on the day and were used by guests after the wedding

Jesaminecollins · 29/08/2019 16:58

We had a mini bottle of prossecco for the ladies and a small bottle of whiskey for the men.

HeadintheiClouds · 29/08/2019 17:01

I’ve never seen the point of favours, to be honest. It’s a bit like party bags for children, really... Nobody wants a mini bar of soap or a handful of sweets Confused
Or a luggage tag or bottle opener; so utterly random. Why?
Put the money into extra wine for the table, that’ll be appreciated far more.

HeadintheiClouds · 29/08/2019 17:04

Oh God, bowls of celebrations instead of flowers!! Now that is something that belongs at a 5 year old’s birthday party, how unutterably tacky at a wedding Shock

PrincessHoneysuckle · 29/08/2019 17:08

The favours we had from a recent wedding were 2 miniatures each,a scratch card each and some sweets.Used all of them.

mummmy2017 · 29/08/2019 17:08

Sweets in bags
Colourful and someone will eat.

ImagineRainbows · 29/08/2019 17:57

I’m doing mini bags of sweets in the wedding colours and a scratch card that’s going inside an envelope to double as place names.

Anything that can’t be eaten / used there and then will be left and different things for different sexes is bound to cause some annoyance.

MaximusHeadroom · 29/08/2019 18:00

We did the Cancer Research pins. They come with a little note and they were all taken

Yeahnahyeah1 · 29/08/2019 18:03

Don’t do different favours for the men and women, it’s daft. Plus I’d be annoyed to get soap (seriously?) if my DH got whisky!
Something like nice fudge always goes down well imo, or something else immediately edible. Or charity pins are nice. Anything to take away generally gets left or binned the next day, ime.

My mum and dad went to a wildly extravagant wedding a few years ago (she was the daughter of a London city lawyer and former chancellor of the exchequer and he was an Earl) and the wedding favours were 30ml bottles of Jo Malone cologne. Those cost about £50 each, and there were 150 guests!

FogCutter · 29/08/2019 18:59

Love the tunnocks teacakes idea, am stealing that as everyone knows they are DPs favourite biscuits!

Agree that many favours do get left behind or thrown away but I did like/ keep:

Herb/ plant in hand decorated pot.
Miniature bottle of homemade sloe gin
Lindt balls- gave to the DC!
Shot glass and miniature liqueur

😱 at the Jo Malone favours, that must have cost a fortune! Bet they didn't get left behind!

We didn't have favours. Just took around a massive box of Ferrero Rocher after the meal for people to help themselves from.

SheWoreBlueVelvet · 29/08/2019 22:32

Mine was a destination wedding so couldn’t really carry any volume of favours over.

We took a selection of postcards for the eight towns close to the wedding and used them as the table names. The guests were invited to sign the postcards as our guest book. We also asked them to write why we chose the table for them ie St Tropez because they are all so glamorous etc. I bought personalised pens from Amazon with our wedding date and thank you for coming on. So they could both write the cards and keep the pens which are at least useful.

I also had a basket of white glittery flip flops that the guests were invited to take. These were spare from a friends wedding and all went.

HeadintheiClouds · 29/08/2019 22:37

How would they know why you chose their table?

Secondchild2019 · 29/08/2019 22:41

Mini personalised candles - there's loads on sites like Etsy that would suit different themes and I would definitely use it!

clary · 29/08/2019 22:45

Sorry op I don't think I'd want any of those. I don't drink whisky, I like to buy my own soap, I have a bottle opener, I don't need a luggage tag and I have lots of tote bags. I guess I might eat the Love Hearts but how much would personalised ones cost?

Tbh tho in a way I'm not a good person to ask as I don't see the point of wedding favours; I'm not a five year old child so I don't need a party bag. There's already been so much money spent on food and drink, fancy clothes, hotel stays, a gift, transport, why add this to it at a cost of a couple of hundred? I can't be the only potential wedding guest who thinks this. Why not spend the money on a bottle of fizz for each table? Or just put it towards the honeymoon?

HennyPennyHorror · 29/08/2019 22:48

Clouds I wondered that too!

irishtwo · 29/08/2019 23:00

I don’t think they are necessary and I’m just as happy when the couple announce a donation to a charity (preferably local) however the ones I have liked the most from weddings I have attended are

  • the miniature drink bottles - last time we had these there was a mix at the table if jäger mister, whiskey, vodka, gin etc was good craic swapping them and watching people trying to drink them straight
  • another was the shots with the lids on them with take a shot we’ve tied the knot.
  • scratch card
  • plastic container with two slices white bread, portion of butter and a pack of Tayto (Irish crisps) the perfect snack inbetween the band and DJ if there’s no buffet at that time or for 4 in the morning in the residents lounge!
