Central Scotland wedding venues

Hi,

I’m back to ask for help with finding our venue. I have had no luck in my previous search radius of up North/ North East, Highlands, Perthshire and Loch Lomond. Venue hire seems far too expensive for our total wedding budget of £3000, booked up for all summer/autumn weekends 2020 and/or too large for our group of apprx. 30 guests. So now I am open to expand our search to Glasgow, Edinburgh and nearby.

I’m open to any venue that isn’t a traditionally decorated hotel and isn’t located in a city, so any modern space (restaurant, small hall, estate etc.) where we could have a beautiful view in the background (gardens, loch, waterfall or something like that) for our ceremony. Either with a wedding team to set up the venue or a blank canvas that we could hire someone to decorate for us (we will be travelling a fair distance so not planning on spending hours decorating the place).

Killearn Hall seems popular, fits the bill but it came in at £3000 for the most basic food&drinks package with venue hire. All country house hotels, lochside hotels and castles that I have contacted are also £4000+ for venue hire and basic services, and I simply think it’s ridiculous to spend that much on a party (I know I am in the minority, most people don’t mind spending many times our budget).

Please help!

The Uplawmoor hotel does a fantastic wedding package. The food is great there too, worth having a look

StrongInside · 25/08/2019 15:23

Thanks, will have a look.

This isn’t central but portavadie looks like a lovely spot!

CraftyGin · 25/08/2019 19:32

My nephew got married at Hopetoun House which was very nice.

StrongInside · 25/08/2019 22:07

Bonnielassie1, looks beautiful, wish it was closer!

CraftyGin, thanks, will have a look. From a brief look it looks less modern than I would have liked.

I’m now strongly considering restaurant room hire somewhere picturesque so that guests could find accommodation for their budget and I could keep the venue hire costs down. Any nice modern ones like Venachar Lochside? Already made an enquiry to them.

Oops sorry! No idea why I've posted a full stop 😳

margotsdevil · 25/08/2019 22:24

The Inn on the Tay is stunning, beautiful scenery (literally right on the river) and great food.

twattymctwatterson · 25/08/2019 22:25

Glenbervie House? Possibly out of budget though. You're looking for a fair amount in terms of setting etc for a fairly small budget

SwiftAnchor · 25/08/2019 22:27

Kenmore hotel does a cheapish wedding package and has an outdoor area by the water for photos etc

Never been for a wedding but was there for a work event and saw a brochure.

Not sure how much help this post is really ....

StrongInside · 25/08/2019 23:09

Margotsdevil, I have emailed them to see what they can offer, it does look good.

Twatty.., yes, had a look at it before, out of our budget. I just can’t be spending any more than £3k on one day’s party, wish money was no object:/

SwiftAnchor, definitely a good price and beautiful views. The Oldest Scottish Inn would be so cool for our special day. Wish I hadn’t seen the rest of the hotel photos- the old fashioned carpet is putting me off, I can’t help it!🤦🏻‍♀️ I know I can’t be picky with my restricted budget.

Mains of taymouth is right beside kenmore and seems to offer different options. Accommodation for guests would be easy too

StrongInside · 27/08/2019 07:53

Thanks nooddsocksforme, I have contacted them. Strangely their wedding brochure doesn’t contain any prices.

Lodge on the loch at Aboyne?

FairfaxAikman · 27/08/2019 16:29

I know someone who got married at the Pitlochry Dam visitor centre.
When it's all lit up at night the dam is stunning.

StrongInside · 27/08/2019 17:01

Twooter, Lodge on the Loch would have been perfect- views, accommodation for some guests, catering on site. Sadly, their costs are too high for our budget.

FairfaxAikman, wonder if they are like some other visitor centres and only allow ceremonies after 5pm when they are closed to the public.

Jupiter Artland looks so unusual and beautiful, but venue hire is £3000. Can anyone think of any other unusual venues like that? I will look into visitor centres.

@StrongInside have you looked at Gretna Green? There's loads of venues in the area and it's absolutely stunning there x

OllyBJolly · 02/09/2019 09:45

The best wedding I have ever been to was at Gartmore Village Hall about five miles from Aberfoyle. The bride's family supplied the bar.

In Aberfoyle itself the Forth Inn has a fabulous hall (and excellent food!)and the David Marshall lodge does weddings.

OllyBJolly · 02/09/2019 09:47

Just seen someone suggest Loch Ard Hall - that is beautiful and guests could get a deal at Forest Hills (always on Groupon) if they wanted to stay.

Angbunnyboo · 02/09/2019 12:17

Have you looked on places like Group Accommodation? We've booked a barn for Fri - Mon for 23 people and are having the humanist wedding there. It's costing £4k for the weekend but I looked at other places and they were from about £1500 upwards.
They have all sorts - barns, manor houses, large houses in the countryside, youth hostels (don't rule out - there are some beautiful ones), houses by the sea, log cabins, gypsy wagons etc!

The catering is on top of that but if you have a Waitrose or M&S nearby they can sort out big platters of stuff so you don't have to self cater.

It's worth thinking about - we don't have to pay for transport, decorations (barn is beautiful) and have rooms for everyone, massive outdoors and a hot tub. I think you need to look outside the range of actual wedding venues to see if you can get something that fits your brief better and is within your budget.

StrongInside · 02/09/2019 12:25

Thank for the latest suggestions. I have found a couple of large houses and restaurants, will be discussing with my partner this week. Barns and village halls are generally too huge, and I would definitely want to add decorations to any space we hire. I will post back once we have picked the venue, but I think we are ok for now🤞

I was at a small wedding at Bogbain Farm in Inverness this weekend. I don't know what their prices are but in all other respects it would seem to fit your requirements. Hope you find the perfect venue.

Shinysun · 02/09/2019 12:35

Another one saying Orocco Pier, South queensferry. I had a small wedding there. It was lovely and priced reasonably too.

Blackcountrychik83 · 02/09/2019 12:38

My friend got married at Cornhill Castle in Biggar. Beautiful place.
She had less than 30 guests and they did packages. The food was outstanding. The new bridal suite hadn't opened when she got married but omg it looks lush. I would love to get married there if I lived up north.

Elllicam · 02/09/2019 12:43

Chatelherault just outside of Hamilton is lovely, we got married there and it was a wonderful day. We had a similar number of guests and it was definitely under 3k (although a few years ago). They provided the meal and the ceremony was beautiful.
