Which vegetarian menu?

impatientmammy · 01/07/2019 22:49

I've put together two vegetarian menus for an August wedding just wondering if there's a favourite choice (tasting evening in November but it'll be nice to keep this in mind) or any advice on weather it goes together well.
Menu 1
Starter - classic tomato bruschetta
Main - breaded tallegio cheese served on a ratatouille tart with pesto
Desert - lemon posset with raspberry pearls and white chocolate fingers

Menu 2
Starter - tomato basil and mozzarella salad
Main - sweet potato, pea and cumin samosa with baba ganouche, coriander and mint yogurt
Desert crushed almond and double chocolate torte with chantilly cream an white chocolate cigars

Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read. There will be a meat menu also but I've left that to my fiancé x

I love menu 2 though do prefer the lemon posset. It all sounds yummy

ineedtostopbeingsolazy · 01/07/2019 23:03

Menu 2 seems quite light but I like it better.
Can you do a smaller samosa/baba ganoush and have as a starter with the cheese tart for main? I'd like that

HigaDequasLuoff · 01/07/2019 23:04

The desert from menu 2 looks nicest but the starter is very boring and I'd really dislike the samosa.

The main from menu 1 looks lovely and I'd really enjoy that, but I think there should be a non-tomato starter before it. Something mushroomy perhaps? Or a breaded duck egg? Or maybe asparagus?

FamilyOfAliens · 01/07/2019 23:05

Taleggio is made with calf rennet, so is not suitable for vegetarians.

You’ll have to use an alternative cheese made with vegetarian rennet if you choose the first menu.

HigaDequasLuoff · 01/07/2019 23:05

(Cancel the breaded duck egg idea forgot that the main included a breaded thing)

LizzieMacQueen · 01/07/2019 23:07

@impatientmammy ignore my question, I see it's an August wedding.

Dillow · 01/07/2019 23:09

I'd like bruschetta and then the samosa because anything with baba ganouch obvs wins, then the lemon pudding.

Gingerkittykat · 01/07/2019 23:12

2 sounds more exciting, but the Italian sounding salad and then more exotic main don't quite gel.

FamilyOfAliens · 01/07/2019 23:13

OP, in case my post falls down the thread before you come back, please don’t give your vegetarian guests Taleggio cheese, as it is made with calf rennet.

TapasForTwo · 01/07/2019 23:14

The first menu wouldn’t work as taleggio is made with animal rennet, and if the pesto contains parmesan it won’t be vegetarian either as it also contains animal rennet. Both cheeses can be substituted with something else.
You would also need to check that the torte isn’t set with gelatine.

I think the first menu is a bit stodgy sounding, and would prefer menu 2.

Thank you so much ladies. I'm working off an menu where everything veggie was cheese or soup 🙈 however I do have one vegan and they have garenteed me they can cater to this. I did think menu one was quite carby I'll keep an eye out for this at the tasting. Really grateful everyone in total honesty I'm not a true veggie I'm just not big on meat so very grateful to see from the prospective of vegetarians x

Oooh thank you to those pointing out the cheese issue I'll see if the venue will change it x

Another vote for menu 2. Sounds more interesting.

TapasForTwo · 01/07/2019 23:17

I'm not veggie either, but I love all types of food. DD is veggie so we generally eat veggie food 90% of the time.

If anyone is vegetarian for ethical or moral reasons they will be pretty strict about how the cheese is made, so it is best to use cheese made with vegetarian rennet.

Stardustmoon · 01/07/2019 23:17

First one! More wedding like 😁

newtlover · 01/07/2019 23:17

samosa doesn't go with baba ganoush

TapasForTwo · 01/07/2019 23:17

TBH I am disappointed that a professional caterer doesn't know about non veggie cheese.

BikeRunSki · 01/07/2019 23:18

2 seems more special; ratatouille is. But ordinary, even in a tart.

impatientmammy · 01/07/2019 23:20

@TapasForTwo the puddings are my bad but the tart was from the veggie menu so I'm really pleased it's been highlighted here as I'd hate to accidentally give anyone meat product x

I'm excited now as I was a bit scared to offer menu 2 I thought it was too unweddingy x

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 01/07/2019 23:27

I'm veggie and would pick 2. I would be tempted by the lemon posset though!

changingnam · 01/07/2019 23:28

I'm a vegetarian and would prefer menu 1, although both sound good. I'd make sure the pesto in menu 1 is definitely vegetarian though as a lot of them aren't

Kanga83 · 01/07/2019 23:29

Both mains sounds divine (veggie here). Both puds sound gorgeous. The starters in comparison are a bit 'meh'. Also in menu one you have tomato and bread followed by breaded cheese and more tomato in the ratatouille- possibly too carb dense? However as options go both are fab and I'm delighted to see there's no risotto or goats cheese in sight!

TapasForTwo · 01/07/2019 23:30

You sound lovely and considerate towards your guests. I hope you have a lovely wedding Flowers

MrsBertBibby · 01/07/2019 23:33

Menu 2 hands down (veggie). But maybe with the posset.
