Coloured stone engagement ring

We've been looking at engagement rings. I want something small but I really don't think I want a diamond solitaire as that's what all of my friends seem to have. What are everyone's views and experiences with coloured stones? I've been looking at sapphire, aquamarine and morganite stones. How durable are they? Im possibly warming to wards aquamarine or morganite because they arent quite as bold but then sapphire can look so pretty... ! Would I end up regretting a coloured stone? Grateful for everyone's thoughts to help me make my mind up because I keep changing my mind and worrying I'll go off a coloured stone or that it won't age well.

sapphire = ruby same stone, a pink sapphire is a pale ruby with some marketing attached

Sapphire is one of the two gem-varieties of corundum, the other being ruby (defined as corundum in a shade of red). Although blue is the best-known sapphire coluor, they occur in other colours, including gray and black, and they can be colourless. A pinkish orange variety of sapphire is called padparadscha. (which I can never pronounce)

I'd love to see a gray one

I have a darkish blue circular sapphire with a smaller circular diamond either side on white gold band. I love it. I wear it every day and have done for 12 years and it still looks great.

I have an unfaceted sapphire with a star. Like this - www.thenaturalsapphirecompany.com/education/sapphire-colors-varieties/star-sapphires/

Blue one, with some diamonds in the band. I love it.

If you have $7.5m knocking around you could buy the ‘bubble gum pink diamond’ being sold in HK just now... it looks like a cherry flavoured life saver.

I have sapphire surrounded by 8 diamonds so it looks like a flower. Had it over 20years and I love it. No damage even after that time

I have a blue topaz ring for my engagement ring. It's 12 years old now and it's still as bright as the day I got it. I still get compliments on it.

Emerald cut sapphire with 5 diamonds down each shoulder.

Sapphire is quite dark and hard to get a good photo!

I have an octagonal ruby with princess cut diamonds either side. Ten years, no issues. My mum has worn her sapphire for 42 years with no problems.

Look at alexis dove website. She does some amazing coloured stone rings and some beautiful coloured diamond rings. I’ve got a three ring system thingy on my right hand from there with a green sapphire. A peach spinel and a brown diamond.

This is mine, passed down from my Grandmother, i adore it. I’d really recommend a coloured stone is different & gets loads of compliments.

Housewife , that's lovely. I have been looking at one very similar to that. Gender - yours is beautiful- so unusual. I have looked at one similar to that but with more of a pave on the sides.
So many pretty rings. It's so hard to decide.

Go to some jewellers, look at rings, pick one you like that’s in the right price point.

I have morganite surrounded by diamonds. I love it so much. It's lasted 3 years very well! I should probably clean it more often however... I'm exactly the same as you, didn't want the same as everybody else.

I have an emerald with two diamonds for my engagement ring and it's gorgeous. People comment on it from time to time to say how unusual it is. I was worried as I'd read things that say the emerald is a soft stone and too soft for everyday wear but I haven't had any issues with it so far (touch wood!). I'd say if you want a coloured stone then go for it, I can't see why you'd regret it if it's what you want?! (Plus you get to buy all the matching jewellery haha)
