Older brides advice especially THE DRESS!!

I am getting married next year and mid fifties, it is 2nd time around but 1st time in church for me :)

Planning is going well but I am terrified about what to wear!
I haven't looked yet but thinking along the lines of maybe a fifties style tea length dress as I am only 5ft 1" and size 10 but then I waver towards something long and elegant.
I am so worried I will look ridiculous!
Also worried about using a MUA but want to look my best all day, I am concerned they will overdo it which can be very ageing. Would welcome any advice at all please.

I think that last dress is stunning! Beautiful in its own right and would show you off with being gimmicky.

I guess you need to look in a petite section as the style would be hard to take up though. I know it’s a bit risky but the Chinese makers could make something to fit. JJ’s house gets genuinely good reviews and has buyers photos.

Sorry meant the long one...but actually the last tea dress looks nice too. Is there something on the front? I think the longer length takes it out of party dress territory.

I think both the shorter dresses that you have posted are to die for.

The monsoon dress would have my personal vote though.

I’m getting married for the first time age 50 this year.

It’s registry office, but a lovely Georgian building, so I think I can get away with a traditional looking dress.

But then I tried this on and despite being a bit boho and backless (no boning or support whatsoever !) it just felt right.

But I’m still wondering about monsoon bridal dresses and wondering if I’ll regret not going for something more costume-like.

sundaychiller that’s the only issue really, but the sleeves are quite voluminous so although I’m relatively small busted, they kind of float about and cover the unperky bust area.

Eustasiavye · 12/04/2019 14:25

Op- I liked the long dress you posted best.
When I was choosing a wedding dress the assistant was honest and told me that I was too short for a tea dress.

CharlyAngelic · 12/04/2019 14:31

At just over 5 feet...do you think these tea length dresses will suit you ?
Have you tried any on . I think you may be wise visiting a few shops to see which style you would suit .

Sundaychiller · 12/04/2019 17:59

Charly and Eustas I won't know til I try them so got to keep an open mind :)

Rivers you can buy adhesive cups but never tried them myself but they look ok?

I am short and small. I love those dresses BUT they do not look good on me .

Backhometothenorth · 12/04/2019 19:11

This was my dress from our wedding last summer. I'm 46 and the dress is from Monsoon. Would highly recommend.

Thank You! Phase eight, monsoon and whistles have beautiful ranges

NWQM · 12/04/2019 22:47

Sundaychiller · 13/04/2019 07:29

It was called Alexandra (pic attached) but don't think it's there at the moment unfortunately . Second pic is Rose dress from whistles which is also gorgeous and available. I tried on the whole collection in each place when I was looking and most of them are so lovely on and really reasonably priced! Was really pleasantly surprised by the 'off the peg' option!

I am not so keen on the cut away at the front.
If you are to be dancing avoid a little train.
