Did you provide anything like toys or a separate play room with seating for adults for them to use during the reception?

Or did the parents bring their own things to entertain their own children, like story books or colouring?

Or did the children spend the time talking to the other children/adults iyswim?

I am just curious what happened to children at weddings 30 +++ years ago

I realise nowadays children would probably be given iPad or phone to keep them quiet - the same as in restaurants the children don't sit and talk to the adults but wondered about at weddings - is it expected now for the bride/groom to provide the entertainment?

From memory, I had 11 children at my wedding, ranging from about 18 months to 10. It was 25+ years ago. It didn't occur to me to arrange anything for them to do, but it did influence our choice of venue for the reception (decided against somewhere with a river at the end of the garden, but made sure we had a garden so they could run around a bit.

All behaved fine, but we didn't have an evening do, so it didn't go on for hours. I have no idea whether their parents took things for them to do.

I got married nearly twenty years ago and it never even occurred to me. All the children, who were babies and toddlers, were on my husband's side of the family and just got passed around/fell asleep in pushchairs I think.

If we got married now, it'd be a nightmare as there's millions of them, thank god we got married young before we all starting procreatingWink
