Wedding dress drama help please :(

Hi never posted before. Always just read people's posts and all that stuff.

Anyway I have brought a wedding dress of another lady. I need a seamstress or some one that can alter wedding dresses urgently! Does anyone know or can you help me if you can that would be great..

This is so stressful and finding it incredibly hard to find anyone that can do it for a decent price {not over the top prices}
Not major work( need the back altered from a zip up to lace up style as it is too small in the back and maybe the bust area.

Have you checked local Facebook groups?You will have more luck there I would have thought.

Taking out the zip, ensuring the edges are finished and it still ties up AND altering the bust, because it will need that once the structure of the back is changed is quite a big job I think. For goodness sake get references before you let somebody cut up your dress,

err I was going to advise similar to NorthernLurker but it seems you found their very sensible advice unacceptable

@pastabest yes that's fine on your opinion. but it is not like I wrote wedding dress need doing any one willing to do??
I asked does anyone know a Seamstress that does this work of course I am on the internet looking around for reputable people or companys thanks.

I agree with Northern that your idea of it not being major work may be incorrect. That is probably why you are struggling to find someone to do it for a 'decent price'.

I agree that taking out a zip and altering the bust is fairly major. I used
www.sandraogrady.co.uk/index.htm years ago to make my dress and she was reasonably priced and I completely loved my dress. I do not know if she does alterations but might be worth a try. She is in Addlestone.

Do you have a local fabric shop?
They may be able to recommend somebody. Alternatively somebody who teaches craft or dressmaking at a local college.
It is not a huge job. I presume that you need the back converted to a corset back. What is the skirt of the dress like? If it is not too fitted then you should be able to do it , not a problem. I could do it but live in Glasgow!

I bought a vintage wedding dress and had it altered to fit by Designer Alterations in Battersea (London). They weren't cheap but did an excellent job.

I was trying to help op. You have a dress which isn't big enough for you. Making it bigger can be challenging. Lots of people will say they can do it, very few can. Getting huffy about that fact won't help you.

Has a zip up back and then the parts to lace it up after. But would prefer it to be converted to lace up so there is a bit of give in the back.

@NorthernLurker sorry didn't intend to sound rude very stressed today but it is very frustrating as you said finding someone to do it that can. That is my struggle.

It's difficult to comment without seeing the back but I suspect it will be a tricky job with all that beading to contend with if it's on the back too?

Your OP sounds like you have approached a few people and not been happy with the price quoted? In my experience your average local seamstress/ tailor etc are usually fairly priced so if they say it will cost a certain amount it's unlikely they are trying to rip you off (unless you are going through a wedding dress shop - they can be extortionate!)

@pastabest have found a few but not sure who I want to do it that's why I come here. And Surrey is expensive as it is lol. Dresses aren't cheap these days. I didn't mean for it to sound like I wanted it done for nothing but I don't want to pay some ridiculous price worth more than the dress ,spent enough as it is.

it is expensive to get a dress altered. It takes a lot of time and skill.
I had mine taken in quite substantially and it was about 300 quid. I was very pleased with the result though, and as I got the dress cheap I accepted I had to pay someone to fit it properly. It still saved £££.

Altering a dress loke thst isn't a quick straightforward job, so I'm nor sure getting it done cheaply is going to be an option. You'll either need to spend a few hundred sorting it, or cut your losses, sell it and buy another dress that is cheaper and doesn't need altering

Wouldn't a drastic diet be cheaper?

The beading will make any work more challenging. Especially any work on the front.
