Hi never posted before. Always just read people's posts and all that stuff. Smile

Anyway I have brought a wedding dress of another lady. I need a seamstress or some one that can alter wedding dresses urgently! Does anyone know or can you help me if you can that would be great..

This is so stressful and finding it incredibly hard to find anyone that can do it for a decent price {not over the top prices}
Not major work( need the back altered from a zip up to lace up style as it is too small in the back and maybe the bust area.

Thank you xxxxxxxxxx

I used to work in a bridal shop that had its own seamstress and looking at that dress it will be expensive to adjust.
Because of the beading and structure it is alot of work.
If the quotes you were given are all similar in price I think you need to except that a good job will cost you more than you want.

Hope you get it sorted OP.

Wedding dress alterations can be expensive - my dsis got a bargain vintage wedding dress, and the alterations cost more than the dress. Still much cheaper than getting one fitted at a bridal shop though.

I do sewing as a hobby and I have to say the thought of these adjustments makes me dizzy. It's very complicated because of the corset top and the boning.

Think about the min wage, (seamstresses charge more than min wage) x no of hours + costs + vat, you get the idea.

I would take it to a proper shop because they'll have insurance if it goes wrong.

Ok thanks for the opinions and everything.

I have found a seamstress.
No more comments please.

I get the impression this didn't go how you had hoped OP ....

I thought mumsnet would be a positive experience but Hmm...never mind.

Always some sarcastic person trying to be funny on various posts I have read and will probably never change on here.

*Bye

Visit a bridal dress shop. They often have seamstress working in their shop. They will probably take a cut or they might be kind me just give you their contact details.

Grin this is a wind up. Too many buzz words used that set mumsnetters teeth on edge.
Good job op. Good job.

SparklingBollox · 10/10/2017 15:48

Op, I can see some of your personal photos in your uploaded pictures.
Hope you get everything sorted. Unless this is a wind up, in which case - you got me hun Wink

Carcy · 10/10/2017 16:21

My mother is a skilled seamstress and having shown her the pictures she questions whether what you want doing is even possible. Even if the bodice could be opened and expanded (and strengthened) she questions whether there would then be enough fullness in the skirt as that would need opening at the top to the same extent as the bodice. As for the bust area it just may not be possible to alter this due to the ornate nature of the beading etc

If it is possible she thinks the likely cost would be somewhere between £250.00 and £300.00

Good luck, I hope you can get it sorted.

Ttbb · 10/10/2017 16:23

That is actually quite a lot of work. Alterations are quite expensive, the quotes you have been getting may actually be reasonable.

browndollXo · 10/10/2017 16:51

@SparklingBollox @Maudlinmaud don't get the comments lol x
