Sorry Saltire just not had time and didnt see this (would have made time!)

whenabouts are you going? I'll have a proper look for you in the am (dh frowning cos dinner is nearly ready)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/01/2010 08:01

ok, looks ok til mid week, then at the moment wednesday could have snow in the centre of the country. After that? Models are utterly split, met office seem to be going for mild, others it looks much colder and more potential.

Going to a met office opend day today so if I glean anything else I'll let you know!

SaltireOShanter · 30/01/2010 09:03

We are going to Yorkshire. North Yorkshire to be specific

I think that wednesday still looks like a battle ground. should be ok next couple of days. Unsure about after wednesday. ukmo going for milder I think, but other models going for colder solutions.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/01/2010 19:14

(question was whenabouts, not whereaboouts )

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/01/2010 07:53

Monday night, tuesday and into wednesday looking very wet with the south bearing the brunt of it. looks set to continue on a milder theme for the rest of the week. Looks to me as if the ukmo is winning out on this one.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/02/2010 12:17

slightly startled to find a cover of snow on the ground here this am. Very pretty sparkly stuff.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/02/2010 15:28

so this week we have a milder interlude for many. Wet for the southern half for a good part of the week on and off. Thursday night wet covers much of the uk. bleugh.

Interestingly the bbc discussion talks about significant snow wednesday from the midlands northwards. here

You can see it here in ne wednesday night So something to be aware of for sure

Don't think that winter is over though in milder areas, it is probably not. Signs of the block returning next week reintroducing cold easterlies. don't put your thermals away yet!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/02/2010 12:17

advisories out for wednesday now Saltire, please tell me you aren't moving tomorrow!!!!

Some weather of a different kind possibly next week.

look at these charts : GFS 10m wind 138, 144. Potentially very stormy indeed in the SW, transferring across the country. Important to note though that other models are not developing this at all as far as I can see and it is a long way off. Interesting development though.

mankyscotslass · 02/02/2010 19:08

It's been really wet here all day today, even if we do get the white stuff I don't think it will lie.

Do you reckon we will get any in Manchester OYBBK?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/02/2010 19:13

Borderline I think. You certainly are in with a chance but impossible to know which way it will go. It'll be a messy affair if it happens I reckon.

duckyfuzz · 02/02/2010 19:15

we woke up to a couple of inches sat morning, its gone now though but has been trying to snow all day today here

kitten I know longterm forecasts are impossible tricky but we're off to the lakes for half term, any thoughts?!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/02/2010 19:18

A couple of days ago I would have said it is looking very cold and snowy long term ducky. Not so sure this afternoon, I thought that the blocking high pressure would reform over the weekend into next week but now I'm leaning more towards the atlantic winning bringing in wetter, milder, wilder weather.

I guess the answer is - I'm just guessing

updated warnings for snow this afternoon.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/02/2010 11:22

So, how accurate were the warnings for yesterday? did any of you have a decent snowfall?

All pointers are showing that next week it could be returning to proper cold again.

mankyscotslass · 04/02/2010 16:53

We got about an inch here between 3 and 6 then it stopped and turned to light drizzle and mostly it was gone by this morning!

Just cold next week or more white stuff??

petunia · 04/02/2010 19:28

Leicester(shire) was covered by a 'Be aware' weather warning yesterday. We got an attempt at snow just before 3pm (a few flakes!) but that was it. We then had a heavy mix of sleet and snow around 6pm but nothing settled and it had all finished by 7.30ish.
Heard on the forecast about colder weather again next week. What fun!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/02/2010 19:55

manky I think that there is a good chance for snow, especially towards the end of next week. I think looking at gfs that even London could get decent snow.

Sounds messy petunia!

duckyfuzz · 04/02/2010 20:01

no!!!!!!!!

really kitten? south-ish or north-ish or everywhere-ish?

mankyscotslass · 04/02/2010 20:08

eeeek....Dh is still working in Slough and travelling home at the weekends!!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/02/2010 20:15

too early for specifics but for instance next thursday midday the 12z gfs shows precipitation across the SE/EA and also the north and NE.

of course specifics will change but at the moment the trend seems to be for going to colder with a blocking high out over the atlantic (like it was early Jan) and weather coming from the east.

duckyfuzz · 04/02/2010 20:19

oh dear, our trip to the lakes next fri over the pennines looks like it will be 'interesting'
