So are we going to get any more snow in the SW or is there a warm front coming in?

I am glued to the weather but they all seem to tell a different story.

Met office are saying no snow (maybe a tiny flurry) and possibly turning to rain by the end of the week.

BBC are saying that its not going to turn to rain and we will get snow (heavy on wed).

I am in west Dorset and would really like it to snow (not rain).

So will the warm front bring rain or snow?

Apparently, the promise is major snow for the West Country and Wales tomorrow, at varying times of the day. The UK is drawing in cold air from the Continent, and at the same time, a cold front, followed by rain cloud is coming in from the Atlantic. When this lot meets, a load of heavy snow is due to fall. This is the sort of snow that causes major disruption and brings the power lines down. Be careful what you wish for

Not far at all then BigTits (you know you have a fellow towns mate on MN?)

Snowing now in Bristol

PeachyWillNeverVoteBNP · 12/01/2010 18:40

Heavy here now,DH almost turned around and booked into a travel lodge at Cardiff Gate as the car kept spinning off. Really bad in Pontypridd.

We've been told the boys have to go to school whatever tomorrow.

Horrendous in Bridgend. I know Newcastle Emlyn/ Carmarthen were bad about 4 hours ago- prob worse now.

SuperBunny · 12/01/2010 19:33

piratecat · 12/01/2010 19:38

nothing in south devon. . was hoping dd might be off school, i miss the xmas snuggly days!!

uglymugly · 12/01/2010 19:42

This has just been posted on the uk.sci.weather newsgroup:

"Radio Devon have just announced that the police have closed the A38, A380 & B3192 at Haldon Hill (235m ASL), traffic is at a standstill."

"BBC SW Spotlight have just said that there are thousands of cars stuck on Haldon Hill, with traffic tailing back to the M5 / A30 Junction."

I don't know that area of Devon, but it sounds nasty.

Just spoke to DD in Exeter, it was snowing earlier but it seems to have turned to sleet & a lot of the snow has gone. May well be pretty icy tomorrow though.

daisydotandgertie · 12/01/2010 21:53

proper snow and wind here - up a hill on the Dorset/Somerset border. It's covered over the existing tyre tracks already.

Marne · 13/01/2010 07:49

daisy you must live near me , we are just in dorset (on the somerset border), we have around 2cm of snow this morning, it took a while to settle as it started as sleet, we are on lower ground so we tend to get less them others. Dd1's school is opens , she wants to stay home and make a snowman (even though theres not much snow), i think dh is stuck though as his work is in one of the towns that always gets twice as much snow (on high ground) and the road has been closed.

Marne - we are just in Somerset (on the Dorset border). We must be really close to each other.

We're up a hill and have another white wonderland outside and it's been snowing on and off this morning too. I reckon we have another 2 inches on what was already here.

Roll on the thaw - we're fed up with being stuck at the top of the hill.

Marne · 13/01/2010 11:09

Just sleet here this morning but not much of a thaw.

Does anyone know what Merriott way is like? FIL is there and is due in for a heart op tomorrow. We don't want to worry him ringing to seeif it willbe cancelled, but we are wondering.

OrmIrian · 13/01/2010 12:35

peachy - we aren't far from Merriot as you know. All the main roads are clear and even the little road are thawing. I should think anything is passable with care.

Hope it goes OK for him.

morningpaper · 13/01/2010 12:40

Taunton here and no problems - buses are running as normal and all the roads are clear. Some problems on steep hills with the slush causing slips, so best to avoid them. Otherwise it's fine. My 134 year old mother drove her from Burnham this morning with no trouble.

Thanks gyuys

It'snot major-major surgery but he has scared himself, understandably
