Hi everyone,

I’m sitting here with a massive jumper on and the heating still nudging its way up, and I can’t help but wonder—is it just me, or is it ridiculously cold for this time of year?
What’s it like where you are? Are you getting any of that promised sunshine

YANBU. Please can we have some sun soon?!

MiddleAgedDread · 03/04/2026 07:06

We had frost and ice yesterday morning but once the sun came out it was lovely. I think it’s pretty typical for the time of year?

Was it like this this time last year? I don't remember it being quite this grim!

I think this is our new normal. Thank heavens that climate change isn't a thing 🤦‍♂️

Tangelablue · 03/04/2026 07:19

I always think back to lockdown 2020 when we had weeks of glorious sunshine starting in March. But I also remember not being able to get to work in April 2013 because it snowed so much. Our springs are very unpredictable.

pizzaHeart · 03/04/2026 07:27

Id love it’s to be warmer it’s not unusually cold. The beginning of April was indeed warmer the last few years but before it’s often even colder.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 03/04/2026 07:28

Not so much cold as damp which makes it feel colder.

MyballsareSandy2015 · 03/04/2026 07:28

I’m in the south east and yesterday was lovely … sat in a pub garden for a couple of hours.

mycatwearsahat · 03/04/2026 07:30

Tuesday is set to be 19c in some parts, hang in there

LilyCanna · 03/04/2026 07:31

Short answer - no it isn’t ridiculously cold for the time of year. This website shows that on average it was 3C warmer than normal across the UK when I checked it 5 minutes ago.

Long answer - our spring weather has always been famously variable. When the sun comes out it makes such a huge difference. If you’re remembering Easters that weren’t just sunny but actually fairly warm, they were probably years when Easter fell in late April AND we were lucky with the weather.

Is the UK hot right now?

Easter is early, so weather is naturally worse than the average Easter

shellyleppard · 03/04/2026 07:33

Yesterday was lovely and sunny. But it was warmer outside than inside my house.....sat in the garden in a sun spot. Today is....grey and bleugh 😬

Yes it was the same last year, all through May. It's the prevailing northerly winds keeping the ambient temps, down, so even when the sun is out, the air feels very cold.

i was looking through my gardening mags from a year ago and it mentioned the difficult growing conditions in May. Unless of course you have a greenhouse, it was 28C in there yesterday, so I did all my seedlings in there to keep warm, it was lovely 🤭

30birthdaygirl · 03/04/2026 18:03

The wind is making it much worse than it otherwise would be.

I hope it drops or we'll lose all of the lovely blossom just as soon as it blooms!

MrsCarmelaSoprano · 03/04/2026 18:04

No there's often a cold snap before it gets going. I've still got the heating on and I run really warm so it is cold.

justasking111 · 03/04/2026 18:08

Last year I thought we'd never get the seedlings out of the conservatory it was cold then. Another year the heating was still on early may. Oh that lockdown spring was glorious.

Meadowfinch · 03/04/2026 18:09

No, I've spent the day in the garden. It's been lovely to get outside.

Easter is usually a mix of sun, showers, hail, sleet, snow 😁

AnonymousCapybara · 03/04/2026 18:12

It's due to snow tonight where I am in Scotland 😭

OttersOnAPlane · 03/04/2026 18:15

Not at all - some years it snows!

This is pretty much normal for March/April. It's always a changeable season.

Yup. Nothing new here.

My Welsh husband thinks it’s balmy 😒

This time last year I was wearing summer dresses, last March was gorgeous. I want to send a formal written complaint to whoever runs the weather, this is a joke

BotterMon · 03/04/2026 18:21

You're not wrong. It's cold. I had a hot shower to warm up after spending the morning outside and whacked the heating up. Roll on next week where it's forecast to be WARM

PermanentTemporary · 03/04/2026 18:21

Climate can include colder weather, though it has to be said my sisters end of March birthday has photos from the 60s of the party a) in swimsuits b) building an igloo. Changeable time of year.

cramptramp · 03/04/2026 18:25

I can remember being sent home from work because of heavy snow in April in the 1980’s.
