Storm Franklin, is there going to be a named storm tomorrow into Monday? Should we be concerned?

Been blowing a gale here in Lancashire since around 2am. Lashing rain and wind that sounds as strong as Friday's storm. Looking at the forecast this is due to continue until the early afternoon tomorrow Shock

EdithWeston · 20/02/2022 07:34

We've got a yellow warning coming in later today.

I'm wondering if it'll be upgraded, as the speed of gusts in the Met Office forecast is much the same as our Amber Eunice

GreenFingeredNell15 · 20/02/2022 07:44

I am so over these winds

NoWordForFluffy · 20/02/2022 08:27

I'm amazed we're only on a yellow warning given the speeds are higher than we were forecast for Eunice and far more sustained. The gust speed forecast barely drops below 50mph (peaking at 70) for about 36 hours!

I'm on the NW coast and it's pretty damn wild out there.

HighlandCowbag · 20/02/2022 08:34

I don't think it's going to be named, but High Peaks weather fb guy thinks it should be. Wet and wild in South yorkshire and set to stay like this for the day. And into tomorrow, which is even worse.

My 'hardy' native ponies, bred to live up mountains and Scottish Highlands will be out for a leg stretch this morning then crying at the gate to come back in after an hour. Was doing jobs in their field yesterday morning, tried to sneak out and got stopped by the littlest one, fuming I was contemplating leaving him out 😁

GloriaSmud · 20/02/2022 09:36

HighlandCowbag Looking at the wind gust charts for tomorrow morning, I think it should be named too.

Millionairenow · 20/02/2022 09:39

Glad I'm not the only one a bit concerned. Seems really odd to have had so much coverage of Dudley and Eunice and yet this afternoon looks almost as bad as does tomorrow morning!

NoWordForFluffy · 20/02/2022 09:41

Our forecast gusts overnight tonight are higher than the forecast gusts we had with Eunice. Plus it's going on for way longer as well. Ours is not go reason why though, I suppose. 🤷‍♀️

Motorina · 20/02/2022 09:46

BBC forecast now showing 60mph gusts this afternoon. I was frankly astonished my fence survived Friday (at one point it was rippling!) so my assumption is I'm going to lose it in the next day or two.

GloriaSmud · 20/02/2022 09:47

And we have Storm Franklin

GloriaSmud · 20/02/2022 09:49

The metoffice have got the warning covering N.Ireland at the moment but I think Cumbria/Lancashire needs it too.

NoWordForFluffy · 20/02/2022 09:50

Shhhh, let's not go there on fences, @Motorina, mine is hanging on by a thread at this point!

Finally named...wonder why it took so long?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 20/02/2022 09:51

It's like a conveyor belt.

Motorina · 20/02/2022 09:52

@NoWordForFluffy mine's currently propped up with bits of elderly telegraph pole I scrounged off a neighbour.

Ahhh well, it's an ugly fence. Gives me the excuse to have something nice.

NoWordForFluffy · 20/02/2022 09:53

I'd agree, Gloria. I'm in what used to be Lancs (sore point amongst the locals), on the coast. We've not had any local restrictions lifted. The coast road remains closed here, as do many parks, due to risk to life.

The local entertainment complex lost part of its roof in Eunice, as did some shops in the centre. I can't see them faring much better during this storm.

GloriaSmud · 20/02/2022 09:59

I think the metoffice like to be sure which direction these storms are going to take before naming them. And it seems like one storm after another due to mega speedy jet stream at the moment (click on 'Jetstream' in 'chart-type'.)

Newgirls · 20/02/2022 10:01

Fences - if you take out a piece in each panel they don’t act like a sail.

NoWordForFluffy · 20/02/2022 10:05

Oh, that's a fascinating chart, Gloria!

Peanutssuck · 20/02/2022 10:08

I am so over this weather. Lost fence panels and a gate on Friday. Supposed to be fixed today. Doesn't look like it's going to be worth it Angry

Millionairenow · 20/02/2022 10:23

Yes named at last - grrr....

Did you manage to convince your friends that walking in the woods was a bad idea today...

Ilovelblue · 20/02/2022 10:31

The wind speeds here in Lancashire are forecast to be worse than Friday's Storm Eunice, getting up to 63mph.

NoWordForFluffy · 20/02/2022 11:11

It looks like our gust speeds have been reduced on the forecast slightly. Still mostly 50mph+, with a short period of 60mph+ in the early hours tomorrow, but not as high as they were being forecast. It also looks to be reducing earlier tomorrow afternoon than was initially forecast as well.

We've just put some washing out briefly, to catch the short dry spell. It's down the side return, not the exposed part of the garden, so isn't going to head off inland!

AnyFucker · 20/02/2022 11:18

It’s worse here than it was on Friday (Gtr Manchester)

Motorina · 20/02/2022 11:26

Nope. But I didn't go.

Have just walked from home, where there are very few trees, and it was still pretty blowy, but I'd say no worse than normal winter. Frankly, I'd have stayed in, if it wasn't for the fact that the dogs start eating the furniture if they don't get enough exercise.
