Met office warnings for tomorrow and wednesday.

www.met.ie/

Effectively if you live in north west Scotland you are out of the warning area.

Snow: predominantly through central Scotland and down through the pennines. Combined with the gales, conditions will be pretty atrocious. Not a day for hill walking.

Wind: Along the west coast of Ireland and Northern Ireland of70- 80mph (perhaps a little higher) More widespread gusts of 50-60mph elsewhere.

Along south and west coastal areas of Wales and England gusts of 70-80mph (I think its possible that some amber warnings may come out for the SW)

Across the rest of England and eastern Scotland gusts of 40-50mph inland, perhaps 60mph or a little above in some exposed coastal areas. This will be unwelcome news for those in the NE who will be very jumpy. It doesn't look anything like as severe as Arwen though, but I am sorry for you guys in that area. Hang in there.

Rattling the lamp posts again in the South Lakes. Not impressed with official local/national response so far with regard to help so good luck everyone.

BiddyPop · 07/12/2021 21:36

Dublin has just gone back to Orange for 1am to 7am....and it's fairly rattlin' out there already! (And DD has, of course, taken DDog on a long walk instead of the short loop around the estate she promised....)

BiddyPop · 07/12/2021 21:38

The 2 sets of relatives I mentioned above are 5 miles away from each other in county Cork - a long way from me!

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 07/12/2021 21:57

Schools in Dublin are closing tomorrow Biddypop!

AnFiadhRua · 08/12/2021 07:37

Been told to stay off work again. Stupid. The weather this morning is ok. Is this an assessing damage thing?

BiddyPop · 08/12/2021 10:05

Teen is not happy with us, because although her school is closed, she's on TY work experience this week and 1 of her 2 places is still open so we are making her go in. (She doesn't realise it's the better option, as we'd be making her catch up on missed school assignments and typing course if she was here at home - evil Grin ).

We seem to be missing the rain that's being pulled down from the north west, there are decent patches of blue sky, but there is still a lot of wind here. Current sustained wind 21 knots (roughly 24 miles per hour) and gusting 42 knots here; sustained 36 and gusting 43 knots off Cork coast (Fastnet lighthouse) and sustained 31 gusting 59 knots (so sustained 35mph and gusts 68 mph) off the coast of Co Down. So it is definitely less but also still strong enough winds.

There were a couple of video clips doing the rounds yesterday that a lighthousekeeper in Fastnet had taken of the conditions out there...I don't think they were going to get much sleep!

After having the shed roof ripped off in storm arwen, we have now been without power since 5.30pm yesterday due to storm Barra.

DH is driving me insane now, as he's desperate for a cup of tea. I went to Tesco cafe this morning for phone/laptop/car charging and lots of tea, so I'm okay.

Their is currently a very cold looking man up the electricity pole in the field behind us. I've already given them chocolates, so they'd better fix it!!!

RIPWalter
Are you in the UK ?

RIPWalter · 08/12/2021 13:49

@LadyEloise1

RIPWalter Are you in the UK ?
Yes in Snowdonia.
RIPWalter · 08/12/2021 13:52

Engineer was just saying that he's spent a week up in Scotland and just been sent down here the other day. Said that he's never seen anything like what he saw in Scotland before... Entire forests of trees flattened by the wind!

Crazy few weeks.

LadyEloise1 · 08/12/2021 14:32

I'll wave to you across the Irish Sea @RIPWalter.

That's so scary re what's happening in Scotland.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 08/12/2021 15:06

It's a much calmer day here today. There is a very chilly wind, though.
Stay safe, everyone. I hope you get your power back soon, RIPWalter.

RIPWalter · 08/12/2021 15:22

Thanks.
Electric came back on at 1430 thanks to a very cold and wet engineer. Heating is just kicking back in now. Still windy and rainy here though.
