Met office warnings for tomorrow and wednesday.
www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings
www.met.ie/

Effectively if you live in north west Scotland you are out of the warning area.

Snow: predominantly through central Scotland and down through the pennines. Combined with the gales, conditions will be pretty atrocious. Not a day for hill walking.

Wind: Along the west coast of Ireland and Northern Ireland of70- 80mph (perhaps a little higher) More widespread gusts of 50-60mph elsewhere.

Along south and west coastal areas of Wales and England gusts of 70-80mph (I think its possible that some amber warnings may come out for the SW)

Across the rest of England and eastern Scotland gusts of 40-50mph inland, perhaps 60mph or a little above in some exposed coastal areas. This will be unwelcome news for those in the NE who will be very jumpy. It doesn't look anything like as severe as Arwen though, but I am sorry for you guys in that area. Hang in there.

Looks like there may be a squall line over west cornwall up through west wales - only what I can see on netweather radar - no expert😁

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/12/2021 09:59

Yes, that's a squall line developing.

Thanks Biddy!

Updated warnings. They look the same, but basically the very large yellow area for lower impacts has got larger, but the smaller yellow area to the west has shrunk, apart from it has extended northwards some.

Easier for you to read than me explain! www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings

Will it be over by tomorrow. I'm in dublin. I was told to work from home but i can't so I took a flex day. Need to get back to work tomorrow!

Rosiiiiie · 07/12/2021 11:39

@AnFiadhRua I hope it’s over by tomorrow! We’re also in Dublin and honestly doesn’t look too bad at the moment. Just want DS back in school so I can actually get some work done!

TheSilveryPussycat · 07/12/2021 11:45

I found this www.windy.com/. It has a rather mesmerising animation of the wind.

@TheSilveryPussycat

I found this www.windy.com/. It has a rather mesmerising animation of the wind.
I love the way the only two place names in Ireland on that map are Dingle and Dublin. Grin

It’s wild here — the first big gusts woke me just before five am, but we’re quite high up and exposed. A galvanised roof has just blown past.

BingBongToTheMoon · 07/12/2021 11:56

I’m in Ayrshire but about 9 miles from the coast.
Wind is reasonably strong here and it’s been snowing for ages….it won’t lie though because the ground is too wet (boooo).
The gritters have been round every few hours though, so maybe worse is to come for us.

BiddyPop · 07/12/2021 13:00

Flight radar is interesting when I take a break from work today, already a London Gatwick to Dublin flight has tried to land twice and done another loop in the Irish Sea but currently looks like it's diverting to Manchester.

Meanwhile, another flight from Manchester has 1 aborted landing and is coming back around into Dublin for a 2nd attempt.

It had calmed down here somewhat in Dublin, and there is currently some patches of blue sky (although rapidly filling with cloud again), and we had a lull in winds a couple of hours ago but back to shaking the trees again. At least it is blowing water out of the ports at high tide, not pushing the surge inwards.

Perihelion · 07/12/2021 13:15

No wind issues in Edinburgh, but absolutely Baltic and big fat flakes of snow.

ApolloandDaphne · 07/12/2021 13:49

It's is extremely windy on the coast of Fife right now and pouring too. My DH is supposed to be flying from London City to Dundee later on a wee Loganair propellor plane. He says it hasn't been cancelled but i honesty hope it will be!

BiddyPop · 07/12/2021 13:56

The fairly wee propeller plane from Luxembourg to Dublin came in safely and landed on 1st attempt. Pilots have all trained well for difficult weather, and it may get bumpy for passengers but pilots won't take chances but abort and try again if safe or divert if necessary.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 07/12/2021 14:04

I'm in Cork. Five of us and two grumpy cats are staying inside. Schools and local shops are closed, no postal deliveries.
It has been very wild all day since early morning. The bin collection took place earlier than usual and I took in the empty bins at 7am.
I'm glad to be inside. It is showing no signs of letting up yet.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 07/12/2021 14:17

Hi OYBBK and thanks for thread.

Just building here in NE England now. so many trees still down from Arwen, and others will be weakened. I haven't gotten round to fence repairs etc yet, so hope no more damage is caused with Barra. School run soon then I'm hibernating!

Hope everyone is ok and stays safe.

DaisyNGO · 07/12/2021 15:19

Neighbours telling me to expect snow in London? I haven't seen any reports, hope not.

Lorriestakingppe · 07/12/2021 15:26

No snow in London I am sure

nannynick · 07/12/2021 15:27

Rather wet here in West Surrey/Berkshire border. A tree down in a local village.

Snow in London... sleet maybe, but snow seems unlikely to me, far more likely to be rain.

Inextremis · 07/12/2021 16:13

Barra has arrived in coastal Mayo - wind whistling round the house, much rain. Windy.com shows me that the worst is yet to come. Hoping we keep the power for the duration. There was snow/hail on nearby mountains earlier - it may well have blown off by now!

MrsRussell · 07/12/2021 16:18

Inland west Cornwall here - I think it's made a difference that it came through this morning during daylight hours. The rain soaked through the Junior Engineer's waterproof within about 10 minutes this morning but has now cleared to be cold and mostly bright, though still windy as a beast.

MarshaBradyo · 07/12/2021 16:21

Very windy with rain in London

I hope everyone has their power on now since Storm Arwen

I can’t believe how bad that would have been

LadyEloise1 · 07/12/2021 16:39

Windy and wet in Dublin.

ApolloandDaphne · 07/12/2021 17:29

My DHs flight has been cancelled so he will be staying another night in London.

theDudesmummy · 07/12/2021 18:05

Schools closed in Galway tomorrow for the second day

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 07/12/2021 20:09

And also in Cork. It is still wild outside.

BiddyPop · 07/12/2021 21:03

1 set of Cork relatives have no power or water.

Another set 5 miles away have seen the harbour rise onto their road but not into their houses (it reached the decking behind the house but not up the extra 3 steps as far as the proper garden). Have full power, water, etc. And have been awake since 2am when the wind had started to howl at them.

It sounds like they are expecting another bad night ahead yet.

Here in Dublin, it had calmed significantly during the day, although a few boats were tossed around in Dun Laoghaire Harbour (on land) - including 1 trailer being blown over onto (and causing a fair bit of damage to) 2 boats beside it. But has got a lot wilder again in the past half hour. Wind blowing hard again (Dublin Bay Buoy says 48 knots again on its latest report - 89 km/h or 55mph) and rain lashing against the windows too. It looks like we are in for very heavy rain the next few hours as well.

Schools in all counties with a red or orange warning closed again tomorrow - Sligo and Leitrim now included, all along the west coast, but only as far as Wexford up the east coast (although the entire Irish Sea also remains orange for marine warnings - so all Irish coastal waters). Most red and orange warnings clearing by 8am down to yellow, but Donegal and sea area remaining in place until 2pm.

Yellow wind and rain warning for the entire country in place until 6pm tomorrow, and for sea areas drops from orange to yellow at 4pm, and yellow in place until 10pm.

Hopefully that gives an idea how slow moving this system is, and to add a number of hours onto it for tracking across the UK.
