Heads up oh festive ones. Storm Bella is going to cause disruption for many tomorrow into Sunday I'm afraid. First warnings start in western Scotland for heavy rain in the morning, before disruption further south later in the day.

www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings

We already have flooding, especially in East Anglia, but I'm afraid this won't help. Severe gales along the channel with gusts to 80mph. New flooding in south Wales and the SW is possible too. I think over higher ground that wet snow will be an issue, especially further north. It will be worth keeping an eye out for spot warnings for snow.

It does look nasty on the charts still this evening.

I feel especially sorry for all the truck drivers, it's going to be distinctly unpleasant.

Yep. This is my last evening of having a drink for a while. I'm on incident response standby ftom tommorow (EA).

OublietteBravo · 25/12/2020 20:22

The river is already really high here (Bedfordshire). We really don’t need any further rain.

Awrite · 25/12/2020 20:27

Oh Christ, I've been watching the forecast for this for a few days but I hadn't considered those poor truck drivers.

I thought I saw it forecast gusts of up to 90mph.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/12/2020 20:36

Possibly Awrite around exposed places like the Needles.

Bike you aren't going to be bored are you? It's going to be frantic I think.

Oubliette it's not great really.

Looks like it's hitting the West Coast of Scotland at about 4-5am and then travelling south.

It's already pretty windy out there (West Coast of Scotland).

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 25/12/2020 21:02

Any snow?

Awrite · 25/12/2020 21:05

Wind and rain Barry.

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 25/12/2020 21:12

So all the horrible weather and none of the prettiness. I hope it doesn't last long and everyone is safe.

TokyoSushi · 25/12/2020 22:15

Thanks OYBBK, standing by!

BikeRunSki · 25/12/2020 22:18

@OhYouBadBadKitten - we get called out about 3 Christmases in 5.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/12/2020 22:32

Bike I must chat with you one day about that.

Severe flood warning for parts of the town today. I can’t ever remember having one previously (and I’ve lived here since 2004).

RandomMess · 26/12/2020 09:07

Those poor people Sad

Selfishly I have no hope of getting the dog out for a walk, she will refuse and I will feel guilty!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/12/2020 09:30

Morning all. I see that parts of Bedfordshire are seeing record river levels. There will unfortunately be further heavy rain after midnight tonight so please keep an eye on EA warnings. Don't forget you can sign up to receiving alerts by email, phone or text.

Bella still looks to pack a big punch over night. I can see from predicted rainfall radar that she looks like she might deliver a squall line or two in the SE by around 4-6am This would feel like a short lived 'weather punch' (I made that phrase up - it's not official) with sudden very high winds, torrential rain, perhaps hail and possibly lightning.

Exposed parts of the western IOW could see gusts of 90mph, generally along the south coast gusts 70 mph, further inland gusts of 50-60mph.

Trampoline owners beware! People should also take a look at any covid gazebos and try and secure them.

Gosh.
I am dreading the winds tonight.
I live on the sussex coast :/

toptreeroots1 · 26/12/2020 10:26

I am used to yellow wind warnings from the met but under amber which I can't remember happening before

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/12/2020 10:49

toptree winds will be south-westerly, if that helps you evaluate what you will see.

Thankfully I see that Manston has been cleared now, so hopefully they will get a good number of the rest of the truck drivers out before the storm hits the area.

The River Great Ouse is as high as I’ve seen it (you can only just see the top of the flood gauge).

Argyll, right by the coast.
It's been howling outside since I woke up this morning, and the rain is battering the West-facing windows.
We have a sleet/snow warning for tomorrow and Monday but this will be further inland rather than here at the coast.

Hadiever · 26/12/2020 13:07

We had flooding here Cambridgeshire and are expecting more later today. The usual overflow areas are already sodden so unfortunately people will get flooded again and that's without the storm.
The EA were calling people late into the evening and early morning to warn them.

KenAdams · 26/12/2020 15:28

Looks like its going to be a bad one. Batten down the hatches!
