Heads up oh festive ones. Storm Bella is going to cause disruption for many tomorrow into Sunday I'm afraid. First warnings start in western Scotland for heavy rain in the morning, before disruption further south later in the day.

www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings

We already have flooding, especially in East Anglia, but I'm afraid this won't help. Severe gales along the channel with gusts to 80mph. New flooding in south Wales and the SW is possible too. I think over higher ground that wet snow will be an issue, especially further north. It will be worth keeping an eye out for spot warnings for snow.

Very windy here in North Lancs!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/12/2020 20:39

wind is picking up a little in the south.

I think after this storm we will need to decamp back to the snow thread shortly.

Very windy here.

Not close to peak gusts yet though :/

45mph here atm
Forecast to nearly 70mph at 4am!?

wishfulthinkk · 26/12/2020 20:53

Place marking with interest/trepidation, in for an anxious night I think!

xcweather.co.uk/ is a good site to keep an eye on gusts.

Pretty bad here on the Sussex coast, going to be a sleepless night for me I think - my bedroom is on the third storey, due south facing the sea and we are at the top of a hill.

Sounds like a giant is breathing down the chimney!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/12/2020 22:50

could be a bit rough in a few hours. Best to try and get some sleep if you can.

Feels like the winds back in feb/ early March ish?

Makes my front door rattle!

Hope everyone stays safe

megletthesecond · 27/12/2020 00:05

I've shut all the upstairs window trickle vents, very unlike me.
Gusty in north Hampshire.

GirlCrush · 27/12/2020 00:10

I’m on Bedfordshire

River burst banks in places. I’m back at work tomorrow ( retail) store has been locked up for 2 days And I’m opening up! Hoping there’s no issues

Wow that picked up fast. The winds are so loud here in Leicestershire and the main storm hasn't even reached us yet.

Vintagevixen · 27/12/2020 00:25

I am now in bed, I can feel the house vibrating every time a big gust hits.

Gonna be a long night - I have charged everything in case of power outages.

Nanasplit · 27/12/2020 02:21

So loud here in East Sussex/Kent i can't sleep at all. Massive gusts against the south-facing windows.

Also in East Sussex. Can’t sleep either. The cat is really freaked out and running up and downstairs howling. Worried about my chickens, although they are locked up safely.

NW here, I enlivened Boxing Day with an early evening trip to A&E and when I got back it was just hitting. My 8 year old asked if it was thundering Shock
It's a bit less noisy now though. We had a big flood a few years back and then after that some new housing built on the flood plain. Why, just why?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/12/2020 07:49

That was a fairly wild night!
/rubs eyes blearily
Could hear things being blown around. dh is snoozing his head off so I can't see yet what damage has been done. I don't think much though.

The Needles on the IOW saw a gust of 106mph.

Sorry for everyone who has suffered flooding. It must be horrible.

Next stop, when I'm a tiny bit more awake - the Snow Watch thread....

Yes OYBBK I was up virtually all night! Was quite scary at points.

The leak I thought had been fixed on my bay window - not so confident now! On bucket and towel duty, though I know it will stop when the SW winds drop below about 40 mph (seems to drive the rain though a crack somewhere on the outside.)

Oh joy!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/12/2020 08:21

That's not fun!

Just had a bit of a cloud burst here (Leicester) with just about everything thrown in - rain, sleet, hail, wind etc. Temperature's dropped from 8.7C just after midnight to 3.3C now.

BBC report on the storm.

colouringindoors · 27/12/2020 14:53

Was vv loud in Chilterns last night... tempted to have a nap now!
