The forecast is horrendous for tomorrow but we had a yellow warning of storms earlier in the week and they didn't materialise so let's hope the same happens again. They are forecast for the latter half of the day so plenty of time for it to shift.

Jackreacherismyhero · 03/08/2019 21:44

@picklemepopcorn can you share what map you're looking at? Thanks guys we're sorting stuff out but thank you!

Unescorted · 03/08/2019 21:46

Just shout if you need us. It must be so stressful.

RedToothBrush · 03/08/2019 22:04

So Boris has promised us a new dam. His magic money tree is very fast growing isn't it. Dodgy but stable. Is this the new strong and stable?

It needs replacing either way now in fairness. Money will have to be found.

SistemaAddict · 03/08/2019 22:28

Its raining now but we are a few miles away so hope Whaley stays dry.

picklemepopcorn · 04/08/2019 08:02

@Jackreacherismyhero it isn't a special map- just google maps, alternating between satellite and road, along with the elevation one the newspapers are sharing. Because I'm not that familiar with the area, I keep looking at the rivers and roads and trying to get a feel for it all.

Jackreacherismyhero · 04/08/2019 13:49

It's looking a bit more hopeful today it looks like they've got the level of the water down a bit over night.

We're not allowed back into Whaley today which is annoying as I need my work uniform but oh well. It's also not raining! It feels like we might be through the worst?

picklemepopcorn · 04/08/2019 14:19

Keeping my fingers crossed for you, Jack!

H2OH20Everywhere · 04/08/2019 14:23

How's the weather, @Jackreacherismyhero? Have the forecast storms hit?

SistemaAddict · 04/08/2019 14:40

Talk of evacuating Marple if need be. We have bags packed just in case. No rain here yet.

Jackreacherismyhero · 04/08/2019 14:55

No rain so far 🙌

SistemaAddict · 04/08/2019 15:05

The forecast looks much better than it did earlier. Hoping it stays that way.

H2OH20Everywhere · 04/08/2019 15:22

Thank goodness! Will keep my fingers crossed it stays away. Take care x

picklemepopcorn · 04/08/2019 15:37

👍👍👍👏👏👏

OhtheHillsareAlive · 04/08/2019 15:37

It’s just tipped it down up here in north Lancs. Made me think of you all in Whaley Bridge and Marple. (And unpleasant flashbacks to December a couple of years ago). Good luck and I hope the rain storm here was just a local shower.

SistemaAddict · 04/08/2019 15:56

It is STRINES not Marple that has evacuation plans in place. A relief for us but we know people who live there. Stay safe everyone local.

georgedawes · 04/08/2019 16:01

Yes not surprised it's Strines, low level and near the Goyt.

No rain yet and looks like they're making a lot of progress emptying the reservoir.

RedToothBrush · 04/08/2019 16:07

Looking at the latest Met Office forcast, 5pm doesn't look good. I know it was due at 3pm so thats still better than it was. 6pm looks worse. Still not as bad as it was last week though.

Between 7 and 8 it looks intermitant. Another storm around 9pm. Then theres a big storm coming in between 1am and 4am by the look of it.

Tomorrow looks lately dry.

It certainly looks a lot better than there was speculation it would be though.

TapasForTwo · 04/08/2019 16:10

Strines isn't far from us. Are you sure it is Strines?

SistemaAddict · 04/08/2019 16:12

Yes, I've just chatted with a local friend in GMP and also with a friend who is in strines now surrounded by sandbags.

georgedawes · 04/08/2019 16:22

It'll be near the train station in Strines I bet that's the problem.

SistemaAddict · 04/08/2019 16:28

Yes, the new housing estate. The trains are cancelled after marple coming from Manchester and are until tomorrow last time I looked.

SistemaAddict · 04/08/2019 16:31

Just started the thunder on the edge of Marple closest to Whaley Bridge.

picklemepopcorn · 04/08/2019 16:36

At Strines, it looks like they built an estate in a river bend.

We've really not thought far enough ahead with the global warming, flood plain, weather extremes situation.

TapasForTwo · 04/08/2019 16:46

Aah. There are two Strines. I was thinking of Strines reservoir near Sheffield.

The penny dropped when someone mentioned a station. There isn't one anywhere near Strines reservoir.
