Spell of very windy weather coming up in the south.

Tricky to forecast at the moment because it's quite a complex situation.

First deep low crosses the uk somewhere through the south on Saturday/Sunday night. At the moment, I'd say the strongest winds look to be along the south coast - perhaps gusting up to 60-70mph. A lot of rain too.

Theres nothing remarkable with this system showing, but because it's the first storm of the season it might catch people a bit unaware. I'd expect the met office to be issuing some warnings by lunchtime today.

Tomorrow would be a good day to tidy the garden of loose objects in the south!

Then the models have a wobble, theyve been playing with different scenarios of low pressures coming through, but nothing consistent yet.

Channel Islands here too, really taking a battering tonight. Hope the boats all found safety. Always worry about the lifeboat having to go out on nights like this. Seems very real when you can hardly hold your door open to put very reluctant dog out for night time wee.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 20/11/2016 01:02

It's bad enough where I am now. Looks hideous back home. Stay safe.

chatnanny · 20/11/2016 01:06

Thank you!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 20/11/2016 01:20

The rain has been something else tonight. Although might have died off for a bit now. Floods all over the place.

chatnanny · 20/11/2016 02:14

As luck would have it I'm alone tonight as DH is abroad with work. It's really gone crazy now. Huge bangs and enormous gusts of winds and the whole house is shaking.... I'm sure there must be trees down all over the Channel Islands. We are slightly inland so I hate to think how the coast is... no chance of sleep, every time I drop of another huge gust wakes me.

chatnanny · 20/11/2016 02:18

Just checked Twitter and it's gusting to force 12. When is it a hurricane? The last time I remember this was October 1987 - the hurricane.

SideOrderofChip · 20/11/2016 03:50

Hello! waves im late to the party this year

It's horrendous here. I dread to think of the state of the island. I've never known it this bad and I was out doing horses in a f10 last year

HemanOrSheRa · 20/11/2016 03:54

We're in Bristol, it's wild here so I dread to think what it's like for you all in the CI. Stay safe all.

Ingles2 · 20/11/2016 03:58

I'm awake thanks to the howling wind and heavy rain.. And the fact my roof is leaking! 😥 I'm on the edge of the Romney marsh.

SideOrderofChip · 20/11/2016 04:33

Checked my garden as baby chips woke me.

Cozy coupe is a ccross the garden as are the chairs. My bins are ok as they are tucked into the gap between house and shed.

All my neighbors bins have gone rogue.

CiderwithBuda · 20/11/2016 04:43

It's pretty loud here in Somerset. And we haven't winter-proofed the garden yet. Too dark to see anything just now. Fingers crossed for the morning.

SideOrderofChip · 20/11/2016 04:56

Looking At the wind map if the storm moves to you it will be a lot worse than it is now.

wind map

We peaked at 76knots

HairsprayQueen · 20/11/2016 05:03

This wind is a bit scary, my house is quite secure but it feels like the wind might blow the windows out any second, it's horrible!

(East Sussex, by the coast)

SouthDownsSunshine · 20/11/2016 05:09

South downs coast here and it's been really blowing all night. Just starting to calm down a bit now I think.

At 38 weeks pregnant I'm very glad baby didn't decide to arrive overnight! I wouldn't have fancied that hospital dash.

Cliffdiver · 20/11/2016 06:37

East Sussex, near coast and super windy here. Seems to be quieting down a little though.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/11/2016 08:52

chatnanny - hurricanes are a specific kind of storm, they have to form over tropical waters. People get muddled up between hurricanes and hurricane strength winds(force 12 on the beaufort scale) 1987 was a storm with hurricane strength winds - it was not a hurricane.

I slept through the night despite being in a yellow area. It's a bit blustery here inland and quite a lot of rain fell, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Ingles, I hope the damage isn't too bad - it's horrid when the roof leaks.

HairsprayQueen · 20/11/2016 09:24

Obviously in my last message I meant blow the windows in, not quite awake at that time! I'm not convinced I've ever heard my house so rattley because of a storm (but I did sleep through 1987 in this same house).

Still really windy here, just been reading through the fire brigades updates- busy night for them!

chatnanny · 20/11/2016 09:29

Ohyoubadkitten thanks I'd never understood that. We survived a terrifying night and my dogs are now flat out and snoring! Some trees down in he garden sadly and very heavy garden furniture moved several metres. My DD is 7 months pg and there are trees down both ways out of their house but no doubt will be cleared in next few days. The islands have really taken a battering, worst I've known since 1987 for sure.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 20/11/2016 09:54

It's the rain that has caused the biggest issues down here I think.

SideOrderofChip · 20/11/2016 10:04

Hurricane strength winds here a force 12. Lots of damage.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 20/11/2016 10:21

Probable there's a fair amount of wind damage here too, it's just not being reported as much as the flooding. Know a couple of trees have come down.

I don't think our winds were quite as strong as down there.

nannynick · 20/11/2016 12:13

Have been for a drive in West Surrey/East Berks border area and nothing major to report (apart from the horrible traffic caused by the M3 closure).
Some surface water in places, lots of leaves on the roads.
Seems like the south coast has had more of the wind.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/11/2016 12:55

sounds like a rough night chatnanny!

warnings for next lot set to bring strong winds and heavy rain. Amber issued for rain.

well i went to sleep about 12 and didnt here a thing Confused

im coast of Dorset

SideOrderofChip · 20/11/2016 18:17

Looking at the wind map the next storm is going to be bigger. But not sure whether the wind will be as strong as yet. Depends what happens when it hits the channel.

We have moved all the garden toys into the shed etc anyway
