there is a humdinger of a thunder storm just a few miles away. we are on the edge of the cloud system.

Who is underneath the storm?

Awesome lightening, has passed over Sheffield and heading NNE. It's weird lightening, almost constant flashes light a flickering fluorescent tube but didn't seem like it touched ground, just jumped between the clouds. Constant low rumble of thunder too.

Does anytime know if this sort of lightening storm has a name?

JedRambosteen · 13/09/2016 19:49

We had loads of thunder & torrential showers late morning/lunchtime. Where were the promised sunshine & high temperatures? It's been hideously muggy. Grim.

Hi Doje we're just SE of Hudds! Absolutely lashing it down now!

West Yorks here too. DH says that we are right between two storms. Not much in the way of rain yet but magnificent lightening for the last 20 minutes or so.
I love a good storm.

Doje · 13/09/2016 20:17

Hi BlueRunSki! I think it's pretty much overhead now. We've seen some amazing forked lightening, as well as the sheet stuff.

I've really wanted to wake up my 2 yr old - he'd have loved it!

Irisagogo · 13/09/2016 20:39

That was amazing! Like a tropical storm, the Lightning was fork sheet and fluorescent glows. A grumbling thunder made it an angry storm.

We are on the top of a hill😄

notsomanky · 13/09/2016 20:58

It lasted over two hours. It was spectacular. Fork lightning, sheet lightning and clouds illuminated by flickering cloud to cloud lightning.

Thinder ranged from rumblings to heart stopping thunder claps. Manky cat was unimpressed but the kids loved it.

This was my son's journey home from work in Stoke on Trent earlier

It's been aaages since we had any interesting weather here. My dear DH has, since he turned 70, also turned into a boring old fart and most conversations are about the weather. Along the lines of: looks a bit warm out there, I think I'll wear my shorts. (Him, not me.)

A proper lightning 'n' thunder storm would at least liven up the conversation a bit.

I'm in central Hampshire. Interesting weather is either over Sussex and east, or over Dorset and west. I blame the Isle of Wight.

magimedi · 13/09/2016 21:53

No interesting weather in East Sussex atm. Just blissfully warm.

TrippyMcTrapFace · 13/09/2016 23:02

I was just south of Manchester. It started around 5.15pm and went on for nearly two hours.
It's the worst storm I've ever seen in the UK. Saw worse in South Africa but never anything like that in England. Double lightning, fork and sheet at the same time and extremely heavy rain.
I was actually quite scared during it.

bringonyourwreckingball · 13/09/2016 23:05

Hit South Yorks just after 7. Amazing.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/09/2016 16:58

warnings for tomorrow

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/09/2016 17:02

Great, won't have to water the allotment!

TheUltimate · 14/09/2016 17:12

We had a humdinger of a storm around 3:30am lasting 45 minutes in Cornwall. That was the third of the day, we had one with torrential rain around 14:30 and then again at 19:00. Our back garden flooded but luckily today's sunshine has dried it all out. At one point when it was torrential rain, I opened the back door and around 4 huge spiders ran into the kitchen Grin It was like they were waiting for the door to open to escape the rain!
